Jo Dee Messina! I can't imagine that Shania would really give a crap about what Jo Dee Messina thinks. I mean she's already been insulted by bigger celebrities than Jo Dee Messina (eg. K.D. Personally, I don't blame her. Why is Shania just hanging around? She can't expect to be a big star if she doesn't come out with something new. While Shania has been away, Faith Hill has had her moments of fame just like Shania... Perhaps it's Jo Dee's turn. They're all good singers, however, until Shania get her new material out there, life in the music industry will go on. So I'd appreciate it if you'd lay off Jo Dee.

I think all of you are reading too much into this. I'm not going to try and tell you guys that you're wrong, because we will never know what Jo Dee was really feeling when she said that. It could have been a comment that was worded wrong. I seriously think that she was criticizing nashville, not shania. I think she is mad that nashville is so money hungry. Jo Dee is a very Bold/blunt red head...you guys are acting like fools letting this get to you. sometimes you have to just let it roll off your back.

First of all, I can’t say I have a good idea who Jo Dee Messina is, I have only heard of her a few times, but I can’t say know something relevant or useful about her, since it’s a little bit difficult to acquire information like that around here. So I can say I’m impartial about her, it’s like talking about a Jane Doe.

CJB, I think it would be appropriate to post the context of that interview to make a better view on the situation.

Taking under consideration what some people said that it might be a misquote, I’ll assume it’s genuine, but of course I may be wrong. If we make a brief text analysis we can draw some conclusions. I will ignore that “stab at Shania” comment, since it wasn’t made by her, but by the journalist who took the interview. I’m sorry to say this, but no matter how I try to read it I cannot overlook some negative feelings towards Shania. What she said can be considered as sarcasm, but the fact that she came with that second blow about the early retirement to back up the word “lounge” tells me that wasn’t a temporary outburst of anger, it was a predefined state. I’m sorry, but in my opinion her respect for Shania isn’t as high as it should be, to say the least.

I also agree with Lucila, it is also an attack on Nashville. But if I read between what she basically says is that Shania was a Nashville creation (which btw is a serious accusation) and now that she is terminated, they are looking for a replacement. What is interesting is that other people who might be mad at her Jo are the Faith Hill fans, because she practically nullifies Faith’s contribution to the whole thing. So basically it looks like Jo has no respect for the whole industry and the whole game, since she’s attacking everybody. Maybe she has some points in her favor, but no matter how you read it, she went a little too far at least in one direction.

The second issue is about Armando. Iloveshania, if you would be kicked out for that statement it would be the most typical reminder of the society I lived in until ’89. I somehow don’t think people around here are practicing communist policies. They didn’t until now, but if they do, I’ll have a BIG problem with that. As far as I know only Matt has the right to kick out people, because he is the only administrator. But I don’t think Armando would do that, don’t judge him too hard. I think he expressed his opinion as a simple member, not as a moderator, like saying: “if you don’t agree with me you’re in trouble because I’m more powerful around here than you are” or anything like this. I think he had good intentions with his post. However you might be right about certain responsibilities that are required from a moderator. I wanted a few days ago to start a topic on the role of a moderator on the forums, maybe you could help me out. I think it would be a good thing to clear certain aspects so we won’t have misunderstandings like this one.

Well i think it was rude of jo dee but i think its even sader to hear her making fun of her when shania absolutly loves her! You know how other people dissed her like k.d lange, i never heard shania saying anything nice about her,like she loved her or anything like that, But jo dee KNEW that shania loved her cause shania even said it when she won an award!When she was against jo dee she said she wouldnt have minded if jo dee won or something like that! from the forums. That is Matt's position, and he says what goes. Now then, about
this accusations you claim, I must disagree with you. I have not said anything, I have
not done anything wrong. Yes, this is a forum and an environment of discussion. I

have said was this. Shania Twain has taken time out to do her own little thing.
When she was out and about with her tour and promoting COO she was like all
popular and all over the tabloids. Now that Shania has taken time off and shes like
in an 'idle' stage, it has given other singers a chance to get into the scene. Thus, Faith
Hill had a chance to have her moments of fame with the release of hew album
"Breathe" and she was in the spotlight for a while. Perhaps Faith's time in the eye of
the public eye has passed. Jo Dee Messina is a very good singer, and maybe it is
her time to shine in her success. I am not taking anyone's side, I am not trying to say
I agree with Jo Dee's statement, however, I am trying to say is that you cannot
expect for one to be and remain popular when they have not released any new
material in quite a while. The music industry will go on and will live regardless if
Shania goes on or not. Its like the press. They're not gonna milk the whole
Presidential elections thing forever, because there are other more news stories
worthy of being on the front page of your local newspaper. That's what I am
saying. Until Shania released some new material, the Nashville is going to go on.
Personally I do not appreciate your comments. If anyone has a problem with what I
think, then that's really just their problem. What I've said has nothing to do with
whether or not why I shouldn't be a moderator. I think that it would encourage new
members to become active and voice their views in whether or not they agree with

If I hurt your feelings I apologize, but you must realize that when you post it does not read Member or Junior Member, it reads Moderator. I find that intimidating; especially when your role and powers on this forum are not clear to newer persons such as myself. When you said lay of Jo Dee, I saw that as a threat by someone in authority not as a comment by a member, apparently it was not intended in that way, and I apologize for misunderstanding. Londo's idea of a post entitled role of Moderators is a good idea as it may help to avoid situations such as this. I do however stand by my feeling that as a Moderator you carry a certain aura of authority which can be intimidating, and would appreciate if you state whether or not you are speaking as a moderator or as a member. I hope that this makes sense to you, as I respect you and do not wish hard feelings between us.

I don't think it is a bad thing to stick up for Shania, she does rule after all, but I have noticed that everytime someone says something not 100% positive about Shania, all the responses are super defensive and vulgar. I think people should just chill out, try forming some valid opinions, and not be so insulting. I don't mean to condescend but I just think negativity gets one nowhere.

I have'nt commented on this one becuase I don't know anything about the person who said it (Shows my total lack of knowege of Country Music apart from Shania). There have been topics that I have been unable to answer because I would have got very angry.

When you feel that someone you love like family is being attacked your natural reaction is to defend them. If you had read many posts you would know that we have made a great deal of effort to respect others opinions; perhaps you should read " Debates Welcome Here" before you make judgements. What enraged people on this issue is the fact that Shania has said only nice things about Jo Dee, and then to see what can only be interpreted as an attack on Shania by Jo Dee is naturally going to anger people. I'm not sure what you are refering to when you say vulgar. I saw no vulgar comments on this issue, only strong feelings. The forum moderators work very hard to ensure that the use of vulgar language is not permitted, and when in the heat of the moment people mistakenly use inappropriate language the moderators are quick to reprimand them. I do not wish to express my feelings towards your comments in a negative manner, as you are new and I want you to feel welcome here. However I am offended by your comment as I have personally made great effort to be understanding of others views, and quick to apologize when I am wrong. Please accept this as my personal feelings and not an attack on you.

Well, I think the K.D. Lang thing was more of a "snub" than a verbal insult. Actually, I read about it on this forum (it's mentioned in the "VH1 List" thread last posted on November 6th), but it really doesn't sound like a big deal.
Anne Murray's remarks were in a TV Guide article a few years ago when she was being interviewed about an upcoming special. I'm pretty sure it was before Come On Over had been released. She was asked about the international success that both Alanis Morrisette and Shania Twain were enjoying. She was full of praise for Alanis, but, with respect to Shania she said something like "Well let's just say I think Mutt Lange is a great producer.." She went on to suggest that the reason Shania didn't tour to support "The Woman In Me" was because she couldn't sing and/or perform live, and was covering up her lack of talent with sexy videos.
Shania had to endure a lot of that sort of criticism. Apparently, not touring to support an album was pretty much unheard of in country music. Ironically, not too long after reading that article, I remember seeing Anne Murray present both Shania and Celine Dion with a special Juno Award for international sales.

November (Whatever date), 2000 - then had the comment and I put it here. It had to do with shania so I posted it.

As far as the sticking up for her... why? Jo Dee is entitled to her OWN opinion. I happen to like Jo Dee and whatever she says is fine with me. I don't really care what she has to say about her or anyone else for that matter. That's the difference...I have some favorite musicians but I'm not going to call them a *B Word* because I don't agree with them or if I don't agree if they say something bad about one of my fav. singers.. that's just absurd.

And for the "is she credible" comment.. I don't care if you believe it or not. Why the heck would I make something like that up? That's just childish and so is the accusation of it. I'm not happy about what Jo Dee said in that interview, but the bottom line is, we can't change it. Jo Dee couldn't care less how we feel, and as somebody already said Shania has been dissed by alot bigger stars, so Jo Dee really doesn't matter. What matters to me is all of you, and to see us get angry with one another over something insignificant hurts me. I am still trying to forgive myself for hurting Armando's feelings. Jo Dee doesn't mean squat to me, and I can't do anything to stop her if she wants to trash Shania. What I can control is how I relate to all of you. You are my Shania family and I won't let anyone hurt that, not some trouble makers, or Jo Dee Messena. What we all have here is very special, and our love for Shania and each other is all that counts.
