With Nashville's unhidden dislike for her and the rude comments that are always coming out of that town about her, do you think she should just go ahead and enter the world of pop instead of pop-country, leave it to others to accomplish? From the VH-1 interview, it seems she can hold her ground on any music style. Im sure country is what got her here in the first place but many artist change their music pref. after a few years or so.
Would you hold it against her if she did cross on over to pop? I think her songs would be more meaningful then those that are being called pop.
Just wondering.

Well first of all I think you're being a little unfair to the country music industry. Yes, she has recieved alot of criticism from some people in the industry, but she has also been helped by them alot. Country gave her her first break into music when other genres wouldn't give her the time of day. Lets face it the pop industry didn't even give her a second look until she made it big with the woman in me. If CMT didn't give her the excellent air time they did it would have been alot harder to get her name out there.
She's been award umpteen CMA, CCMA, etc... awards by the country music industry. Kenny Rogers is putting her into a book about the people he admires most in country music. Reba McEntire, the indisputable first lady of country music ( don't freak, Shania's the Queen), has been one of Shania's most staunch supporters. Faith Hill said in Shania's defence "She's sexy, get over it". Martina McBride said that it's all music and as long as the fans like it who cares what genre it's supposed to be, and besides What is traditional country anyway? The list goes on and on. For every person in country music attacking her there are atleast three or four defending her.
You're absolutly right Ben! Why mess with what works. Aside from a few natural changes to give the new album a distinctive characteristic I think she should stick with whats been working.

She should do what ever her creative spirit inspires her to so far so so good. http://www.shaniaforums.com/smile.gif
After selling 50 million albums a few critics in Nashville aren't quite as loud anymore. http://www.shaniaforums.com/smile.gif

I will LOVE Shania just the way she is right now. Whatever she decides to do, I am there. She is doing more than greatt right where she is now. To me she IS country and POP, but I could care less about what is NOT country and what IS. I am sick and tired about that whole argument. To me COUNTRY is COUNTRY period. Nothing else. I'm Outta Here!
Man! I Love Shania!
"Little Shania"
SHANIA ROCKS THIS COUNTRY RIGHT OUT OF THIS WORLD,UNIVERSE,AND PLANET FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tigger, You sort of answered your own question when you said that her songs would be more meaningful than the pop that is out there today. Country music has meaning and that is why Shania will stay country. Will she continue to have songs that are on the edge of being pop? Yes. But she is taking country music to new hieghts.
Would I hold it against her if she crossed over to pop? No. I just have to agree with everyone else who has answered you. She won't cross over just because she can. She will stay with what she has been so sucessful with, country music thats right on the edge.
She should stick with Country. She grew up singing it so why change? She was successful with one CD to make a cross-over. I don't think it was meant to cross-over, just that Country has become much more popular the past few years and they put her songs on Pop Stations to get Country & Pop listeners.

I'd love it if Shania made another country album like "The Woman in Me." I prefer her to sing country instead of pop. I don't really like it that she straddling between country and pop. It's difficult to tell people what Shania is: country or pop. When I tell people that she's a country singer, the say, "Well...she's pop too." And that uncertainty, that straddling on the fence is just plain frustrating because I have no idea what Shania is. I wish she would just choose one, preferrably country. Why can't she be continue to be creative in country music too? She doesn't think there's room to be creative in country music??

Both Shania and Mutt are country music fans, so I dont think they will ever totally ignore country music, although she will have less country in the future as she expands her repertroire.
Too bad a lot of Shania's fans dont share the same appreciation that both Shania and Mutt have for country music. In fact, many of them have a real aversion to country music, and to other things about Shania.
Shania's fans are a real ODDITY, most all of them have a real aversion to much, or at least one or more things, of what Shania likes, or is. Personally, I find nearly everything about Shania desirable.
Country music is just one problem a lot of her fans have with things about Shania. So many fans have said that they hate country music except for Shania's music, yet Shania said that she and Mutt like country music very much.
And if it isnt one thing it is another. Other people dont like people with weapons or guns, yet Shania was proficient with the bow and arrow, hunting, and shooting since age 8.
Other people dont like vegetarians, which both Shania and Mutt are.
A lot of people want her to tour constantly, yet if she did, then they would complain that she isnt spending enough time with her husband.
Shania harps constantly about the food for children program, yet how many fans have actually contributed to her favorite program?
Shania and Mutt moved to Switzerland to avoid the heavy taxation of Canada,
and all the Canadians want her to move back to Canada and get taxed again.
They talk about how good her body is, but when she does flaunts her body, they complain that she is too provocative.
Other people dont like the cutting down of trees, but Shania was a logger with a chain saw.
Other people dont like horses or dogs, or at least they never ride horses, and dont own a dog - Shania's favorite animals.
How many of her fans have taken up skiing?
Whenever I use my chainsaw, listen to Dolly Parton, or ride a horse, or shoot a gun or a bow and arrow, or snow ski, or play with my dog, or eat peach pie, etc. I am aware in the back of my mind that I am doing something that Shania also does and likes.
Besides the fact that I dated her cousin, and knew her family, and almost went to see her get born(but didnt), I find Shania very intriguing! because I like and share so many of her past and current interests and activities. I do and happen to like all those things that Shania likes, but it is clear, that Shania has no : "persuation" to others. That is unusual among super stars. For most stars, if you find out that stars likes, then a lot of fans emulate that star, do the things that she does, live the way that she likes to live, etc. etc. etc.
But most Shania fans, are totally "divorced" from the "person" Shania, and could care less about sharing in her activities and lifestyle.
Very unusual.

I highy doubt Shania dose any of that now. Well know fact that vegertarins don't hunt. And she has seen what guns can do. I very much doubt she uses one now.

benperkins,
You are right about hunting, she said she does not do that anymore, nor does she cut down trees anymore, but she speaks very proudly of having done all those things. Also, she did say that she is not against other people hunting, or eating meat, and she said she is not against guns at all, dont forget that her adoptive indian relatives still all hunt and kill moose and rabbits and have guns. And she is always praising that way of life of her indian adopted father.
Anyway, I think you get my drift, she doesnt seem to have any appeal to others to open their minds or copy her lifestyle other than what they would otherwise do anyway.
I know a lot of her fans hunt, or listen to country music, or like horses, or are vegetarians, etc., but no one changes their minds or thinks about doing something they hadnt done before.

...yeah..er...
Back to the original subject...
I think that if Shania made a total crossover into 'pop' it would be a disaster! The country element to her music is what makes it special and original (especially here in England). If Shania turned 'pop' then her music would just be MOR, like Britney spears and Christina Aguilera. Anyway, you should stick to what your good at, and Shania is the godess of country music!
PS. how do you do them smilie face things?

I believe the old addage, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" http://www.shaniaforums.com/smile.gif Shania has created a unique genre within both country and pop music. I would like to see her continue to keep that balance between both of those genres and not go to either extreme. I do prefer pop to country, but I would be dissapointed if she became a musical lightweight like Spears. Shania and her music are truly special and I can't wait for ther upcoming album. I think she's going to blow us all away again http://www.shaniaforums.com/smile.gif

Heather,
you are absolutely correct, and Shania is doing quite well with the balance she has right now. So many singers have ruined their careers by trying to change themselves, why should she?
Anyway, the tremendous exposure Shania gets from all the different country music magazines, from the various country music awards, and from CMT would be hard to replace if she "dis-owned" country music and repudiated the venue that made her a star in the first place. It would be a strategic mistake that Mutt simply would not make.
