In The Current Issue of sanity Magazine there is a full page article and a full page ad for "Up". Here is an extract from the interview

So what do you do when your Come On Over has worldwide sales of 34 million (A million Of Those in Australia), you become the most successful female solo album and Country Album artist of all time, and yield six hit singles? Simple, you move from the US country capital of Nashville to Switzerland and start a family with your husband, producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange who is better known here for producing AC/DC and Def Leppard records.

“There were days when I’d come into the studio wheeling my baby,” Shania recalls. “Id be trying to do my vocals and at the same time, had my eye on the video monitor that was in the soundproof room where the baby was asleep.”
Canadian born Shania’s huge success probably had it’s humble beginnings in Australia. Her first two albums Shania Twain and The Woman In Me were country records. Her Australian Label asked Shania’s people to provide a Pop mix of “If You’re Not In It For Love (I’m Outta Here)” for use in Austraia only. It went to top five in the pop charts, and Shania realised she could be a crossover singer.

Her New single “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” has a futuristic animation video with a grunge-looking band with tattoos and face paint. “I think people most associate that kind of lyric with me,” she says. “I’m playful and assertive – girls like to relate to other girls who know what they want.”
The Up! Album is different from what you’d expect from Shania. “There’s so much free music around, that I wanted to make a cd were people would say, “This is really worth buying”. We made it differently. We travelled around the world and used local players. We Went to Mumbia in India, and used Indian musicians, then to Milan and used players there. We did stuff in the Caribbean, recorded with a 40-piece orchestra in Ireland, and wrote in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, the Grenadine Islands. I pulled things from my soul that I’d never written about before.”

“Juanita” is another word for “Female Power’ and each Girl’s search for it. On “In My Car (I’ll Be The Driver” she sings “Don’t car if you sleep with your socks on/ you can hurt my head with your favourite Rock song.” In other words, you can control certain aspects of our lives but in this car, I’m driver! They playful “Ka-ching!” is about how commercial our world has become. “I’m Jealous” is a soul-stirrer which Shania says is one of her favs on the album.
She’s planning to hit the road year that will see her return to Australia. It will be a much bigger show than before, she promises. “I hated to finish thew last world tour because it was just so much fun,” she says. “Playing Live is definitely the best part of my carer. We’d go out and we would be entertained watching the crowds.
They Went crazy!”
