Some people have asked how Shania can say this is her best work, and I just want to add something else she said: "I have lived with this music for 2 years."
The first listen is kinda akward because we haven't heard this woman sing something new in 5 YEARS! It takes time to settle into something new. It's like trading in your old pair of sneakers and having wear in a new pair. Just listen again.
I think "Up!" is her best work yet! I love every single song but I love a lot of different kinds of music. It's unreasonable to think every single fan is going to like every single song on "Up!" I mean, c'mon, there's 19 tracks, plenty to choose from!
Shania: Queen Of Music :) :) :) :)

Up! is definitely one of my all time favorite albums. I love TWIM and COO a lot...it's hard to tell if I like this one the same or more. Right now I like it more of course, because it's new! But what I like about Shania is I never get sick of her CDs :) Actually, I do think that Up! is my favorite Shania album. It's just amazing. No one can beat the 19 songs, 2 discs, and beautiful fun, emotional, sad, and happy songs!! Shania covered it all. Love this album :)

That's the great thing about Shania's music. It's so different from anything else that is out there. She has her own style, for both her music and her lyrics. I remember back in '97 when I bought "Come on Over" on the day it was released. I brought it home and gave it a listen.. my first reaction was "umm, oooook" I wasn't really sure how much I liked the album. It was a very far step from "The Woman in Me" so I had to listen to it a few times before it settled in. But once I got to know the words, music and styles, I realized that I LOVED the album, from front to back, top to bottom. I listened to that cd so many times in the last 5 years that I've gone through 3 or 4 different copies of the cd! When I bought her latest cd on Novemeber 19th, I had already had a preview of all of the songs from her website. I already knew that I loved many of the songs, but it wasn't until I actually was able to listen to them through a REAL stereo, and not just computer speakers, that I realized how great this album really is! The instrumentations and vocals are unbelievable! I definitely think that people who do not hear that, aren't truly listening. And for those who can't hear the difference between the "green" and "red" cd's aren't listening close enough. Something I learned with "Come on Over" was.. I have built in Karaoke on my stereo system. Sometimes it's nice to just put that on and listen to the background vocals and instrumentations of the cd. It's AMAZING to see what they have done with the music. The same goes for "UP!" Don't get me wrong, some of the songs are still growing on me.. but on the whole, this album is by far her best work. Very diverse, very unique, very SHANIA. It's amazing that a critic can sit there and crticize her on how many exclamtion points she has in the cd booklet.. It makes me think that they spent more time counting those than actually listening to the cd! Just wait.. after the cd has been out a while, and a few more singles have been released, they will be calling this album her greatest work. It will sell millions and millions of albums and it will spawn many hit singes on both pop and country radio. It may take a while before many of these results are seen, but we've seen it happen before with "Come on Over" and it WILL happen again with "UP!" :-) :-D

Welcome to the forums, mate! :D
Too bad I can't state my opinion on the subject, as I have yet to hear UP!

I think UP! is her best work ever. And I think this will be proven true over time. UP! is going to be another long-lasting album that spawns a whole truckload of catchy and clever hit singles that will be constantly played on the radio, and a whole boatload of wildly entertaining and spectacular videos that people will love. UP! will become a part of the public's consciousness, even moreso than COO was. She's created a country/pop masterpiece.
