This was in my husband's Blender magazine (just a small type up going down the side of the page, no pic or anything):

"Godfather of soul James Brown and country-pop beauty Shania Twain have added their names to the growing list of stars willing to perform at private parties - for $50,000 and $300,000 respectively."

It seems that here are 2000 members nowadays which makes it 150 $ for each. Anyways, that´s a good thing to do. Shania´s own Christmas Special Show in Grenadine Islands for Shania forums gang :)

Gosh What a GREAT IDEA, Oh I do hope we can pull this one off, what fun it would be to meet you all.

Shania would get such a kick out of it too, playing to a group who really would give her the feedback she deserves.. Now we need a "leader" an "organiser" who we would all trust with our hard earned cash.

1st thing to decide on is a venue that would be fair to the travel plans of the majority of the group. It does not have to be central, just be able to cope with 2000 + and be agreed on by the majority of the Group.

Being a world sort of person, I am easy - anyplace would suit me. Come ON, LET's DO THIS THING!

1. Contact Shania's management and get factual information on the project

2. Set up a treasurer who will keep track of donations, richer members being able to pay for poorer ones, the total being the target, not the individual donation amount. However only Shania fans who are members of Forums, Boards and online clubs can get tickets. Where the cost of travel is a barrier, again we can set up a fund to cover that for the poorer members. Money should not be a barrier here.

3. Shania's management must choose the venue, as I doubt we could agree, spread out all over the world as we are.

4. Shania's management must chose the date too, for the same reason as above.

5. We must insist that the whole event be filmed and edited down on DVD for us all to share for years after the event!

PS don't forget the other Shania fan clubs round the World and of course the 600 members of the North American Online Shania Fan Club. A concert with just Shania fan's from round the world would be an event of a lifetime. Please make it happen!

We can do this... We MUST do this, as it has never been done before and Shania deserves this tribute from us all. (I bet when it happens I am at sea... Not to worry, I can share the DVD when it is released!!)

If Shania can rise from being a Tree Planter and serving fast food... surely we can organise something as simple as this.... start saving now!!!

Let's organise online on a special thread with a title common to both the forum and boards.

Hey,
I'm in college and pretty low on funds (my parents are paying for everything), but I'd get a job to see Shania live!

The only problem is getting there. I couldn't fly or anything so it would have to be close to where I live, which is by the way Arkansas, USA. It would be cool it were in Branson, Missouri. There are tons of theaters there to hold us.

I wish I could go!:)

Well it has to be a PRIVATE party just for us Shania online fans, so how about TIMMINS! Shania would love that venue for sure!

And remember we could set up a "hardship" fund to part or fully pay transport for those less well off. Money, or the lack of it, should NEVER keep a true Shania fan from this event!

You could get a points system based on the number of post or something like that... I don't know, someone must have an idea of how to make the heartbreaking decisions of who gets help and who does not.

Can you imagine the atmosphere, 30,000 of Shania's greatest fans all together in Timmins... Wow that would be such a blast, perhaps the TV rights could help pay some of the costs,,, we really need help here. I wonder if Mary Bailey would lend a hand organising this???

I could do this, thinking about it. Would take over my life for a bit, but at least I would have a ticket for sure! First step would have to be contacting Q-Prime as the idea may not be a starter in the first place.

I really appreciate your post Tom!! I can be your co-worker from the begin till the end of the party. Timmins sounds very good, Switzerland would also be quite nice, but I prefer Timmins. Then we could organize some special charter flights from Europe example.. Lets roll with this!! :up: :up: :up:

Matti Well if we went to Switzerland, we would be OK for BB at Shania's pad (well the 1st 100 or so anyway) ;)

Yes a Charter flight would be the cheapest was to get people across the "big pond" I am sure Air Candada would cut us a deal, if for no other reason than the publicity this "event" would generate. Bit like Woodstock really (sorry showing my Hippy roots here). But that "little" concert sort of grew and grew and in the end was so huge, no one new what to do about it.

At one point, during Woodstock the US ARMY was feeding thousands and had field hospitals on the concert site, where dozens of babys were born. Gas stations for miles around sold out as did all local food stores.

Can you all just imagine what the worlds Media would do if this "fans only" private concert became fact! I doubt I will sleep tonight now thinking about this. I want this to happen now, just to prove that collective fan power knows NO limits.

I know, I´ve spent already this evening for these thoughts.. We are gonna make it happen, sooner or later. I think that would be one dream coming true for Shania too. She´s always so dedicated to her fans. Arrangements are allways hard, but nothing is impossible for Shania fans nowadays :)

Nice comparison to Woodstock btw..

I have today emailed Shania's management, but have a feeling that the reply will be "All Shania's concerts are for her fans".

True, but not the same thing is it! I mean a concert organised by the fans - for the fans.... Oh I like the sound of Chartering Air Candada, can you just imagine the on board party with 340 odd flying "twainiacs" together for a 7 hour flight!!!

Party on Wayne :D

Since I play music for a living, let me fill you in on the so-called $300,000 price tag.

This is Shania's fee. Here are some of the extras you've forgotten (and these will be mandatory, don't think she's gonna come and play out of your old EV speakers in your basement.)

AGENCY FEE - ADD 25%
PER DIEMS - (rooms, meals, airfare for crew, band, etc...) $25,000???
SITE FEE - (she ain't gonna play in your backyard!) $50,000-$100,000
CONCERT EQUIPMENT (lighting, 50,000 watt PA, staging, monitor system) $100,000-$250,000.

SO,

if anyone has 1 MILLION dollars, Shania will be happy to play for you.

Aww, my day has been full of this kind of imaginations :) Everybody singing Shania´s songs on board :) :) Good that you contacted them. It isn´t the same, when the whole thing is set up by the fans. The atmosphere would be totally different, cause it would feel like own project also.

Exactly!! We´re all doing our little daily practices all the time. Someone goes to school while the other one works. Someone is a singer while the other one plays bass. Someone likes to go jogging while the other one prefers sitting in a football game :smirk: But we´re all Shania´s fans :) and I suppose quite proud of that too :p This happening would be something really big :shocked: :shocked: and connecting for us.

It´d not be the same as an ordinary concert, which is usually just one part of big tour, where local people are the majority in the audience. Everything would be in the control of her fans. We could decide when and where and how many people taking part. Everybody would "know" everybody (meaning everybody would have the same background). There would be so special atmosphere, the "Wind of Timmins".

I think that´s worth trying for, whatever the cost is estimated to be by professionals at this point :)

hmmnnnn, thinks hard ,,,, ... hmmmmm, where there is a will there is a way,,, mmmmmmmmkhmmmm,,,, .... network, network, brain connect, thinnnnnkkkk. Ok, I got it

Let's forgo the 300,000 $ Shania's into feeding the hungry kids of the world right, so let's all donate lunch money for three thousand kids, if we do that, Shania's got to join the party. You see, we have to make it fun for her, interesting, new and cutting edge.

Then there is that bit about the concert fee, the promoter fee, the sound system fee etc. I have no idea how real that is, but I say let's take Shania back to her roots, I mean Tree Planting roots. Let's do Woodstock one better, forget the farm thing, let's go to the mountains, to the bush, to the way back where Shania and her dad tree planted together. Find an old reforestation unit they worked on together, gather on the mountainside and have a REAL Shania concert. Somebody bring the sound system, somebody bring the guitar, somebody bring the salad, mix things up and PARTY.

At the end of it, we all pass the hat, gather UP the loaves and fishes, and distribute the bounty to a bunch of the world's hungry kids. Instead of paying Shania, she will probably double what we raise, then challenge us to double it again, (before she plays her oncore!!!!) Hey, I bet Mutt will even show UP in a wig!!!,

Gary, Thumb crew, Hoedads, Eugene Oregon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

It's a massive project you got underway.

I'm in, but...

One thing is loose talk on the Forum, another is pulling it all together for real.

We are too different, too far apart and with different finansial ressources at our disposal.

At some point it becomes serious and some money have to be put on the table. $1,000,000 doesn't sound unrealistic.

By the way: Timmins, Deerhurst Resort or Vevey would be the only right places. I would love to go to Canada and combine it with a holiday.

I'm in, but...

One thing is loose talk on the Forum, another is pulling it all together for real.

Well we will see. Baby steps and one at a time. Biggest worry would be the money side of things, a lot of Shania's fans outside North America will have to pay £300 pounds or so in Air fares, so charter would be the way forward there, keeping the costs low by filling an aircraft or two, flying say from Amsterdam or someplace like that pretty central to Toronto as a group then on to Timmins by the plane load.

Then we can all meet together. Accomodation would be a problem too, but I have good contacts in Timmins who would help out there. Big worry though is still money and I would hate to think that was a barrier to some.

We would still be vastly outnumbered by the good folk of Timmins, but hey... nothing wrong with that, nothing at all! Let's just keep our feet on the ground and not get our hopes to high.

The ball is at Q Primes feet and until they kick it back, we can't expect too much.

Pixcy, you are a STAR, so we will just have to put you on the stage with Shania for the whole concert, you know all the words, so just sing along. :)

LOL! I have no idea how I'd look in a kilt. I'm sure it's no where near as good as you look in yours! ;)

Yea, I know all the words but I'm not sure I'd be conscious to sing along if I were up on stage next to her!

Yes I fear that would be the effect on me too if I was to meet Shania on stage! If this concert comes off I am going in Full Highland Dress, nothing else would be good enough!

The Kilt is great for dancing in... :D but would have to be a summer concert or I may get frozen assets ;)

Bit too close to home for Shania I suspect, and Phil Collins may get upset about the traffic and the noise ;-) but what I am hoping for is that the new official Shania Twain site hosts the ticket sale side of things and looks after the cash. I am used to offshore logistics, so I would be possibly a valuable admin chap to organise Charter flights and accomodation and feeder flights etc. I have good links with similar organisers in Timmins.

Timmins would be the logical place to hold this "special" Fans get first ticket choice concert as I am sure Shania would want to play Timmins again, see the Shania Twain Centre for the 1st time and say Hi to the Staff and her old School chums.

For many online fans - this would be the ideal time to say Hi to Shania's hometown and it's WONDERFUL people.

She would get a double buzz out of playing her home town knowing that we were all there supporting her too, having travelled from all over the World to be in Timmins that day, joining in the fun with the locals.

Wonderful, now that's sorted I will email Q Prime... You have to like that idea, even the blackflies get to join in!

Party on IR! :D

AAAAhhhhhh, I just about forgot about the black flies, I've got a line for them in one of my tree planting poems, "Bongo's Song"

It goes like this, (I've added a few lines from the above and below it, so it makes a little sense to the uninitiated!!))

`......
I got roots going up
I got roots going down
Wild roots wrapped around
This hole in the ground

Get that inspector out of here!
This isn't what she needs to see

I whack around
In mother natures hair
As quick as I can
I plant my prayer
I stomp the ground
It seams firm to me
Count one more dime
For one more tree

I swat a no-see-um
Blow snirt from my nose (remember that black stuff)
Smash a horse fly
Up against my clothes

Someone got a cig to share

Why is it so damn hot out here
My jackets on, my jackets off
It rains, it freezes, the sun is out.

Why is this ground such **** all day
Look, I'm in a *****y mood , but
I plant my trees, I collect my pay
Just keep that inspector far away.

I whip my hoedad down the line
I got trees to plant
Before they age,
Say these ones don’t look very good today
The bark is slimy, it slides right off

Lady why you digging them anyway
Are’nt there enough reprods in this ground
Can't we say this units done
Let's go home early, have some fun
Ain't your old man waiting for you
You must have something better to do

`````````````` .....................
Well, upon a closer look, it looks like I got the no-see-ums, horse flies and the inspectors, (some of them reaaallly had a nasty bite,) into the poem, but them ol' black flies were left out, hmmmm I'llll have to rectify that
Maybe I can help the mods :rolleyes: combine this thread with the National Enquirer's "Shania's Butt" thread, help, here gooeees
...............
I feel a black fly
making friends with my butt
I turn to swat it
But I'm out of luck
Yikes!, I sense that I've just been shot
By the National Enquierer's lurking truck
Now They have a huge photo
Where I've been struck
Plastered on thier front page
For your entertainment buck
............................ gary (PS, as to the party Tower, you bring the people up the winding logging roads, I'll bring the tree seedlings ...... and we'll all have a party, swinging from the trees, ... no J roots please, Eh Eilleen!!)
Oh such wonderful stuff IR... Gossh you been there, done that FOR SURE... Shania would get such a laugh reading this wonderful stuff, I am proud of you - I only went "up country" for a day and get your message "loud and clear".
Now I know why you respect Shania as much as you do. Thanks for making my day kick off with the biggest smile you can imagine...
Tom, I went cruising off to my old stomping ground, as best I could 20 years later, ala the web site, http://www.hoedads.com
and brought you a picture of a typical tree seedling. I couldn't find any pictures of those giant black flys, but they came with the territory.
For sure, my days as an off and on tree planter, from 1973 to 1982, predated Shania's by a decade, but something tells me we all experienced much the same thing. Hoedad's was a massive co-operative that about two hundred of us jointly owned and jointly, (emphasis on jointly) ran back in the good old days. I did a lot of tree planting, about 300,000 tree seedlings, and slowly became a specialist in contract bidding and administration ... then my body gave out, all my joints failed, and I went off to become a potter and ceramic artist.
300,000 trees may sound like a lot, but it isn't really. Basically it was like this, in good ground a fast tree planter could stick in about 1,000 seedlings a day, in bad ground, sometimes as little as 300. That's basically about a 600 tree per day average. Over ten years, I worked about 600 days, not much compared to many of my more devoted friends, but still a forest worth of trees spread all over Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Montana.
The worst clear cut for no-see-ums, black flies and the like was outside of Bozeman Montana back in 78. It was also the best contract for money I ever worked, about 350 dollars a day. Unfortunately it only lasted a few days.
There is a book Hall Hartzel wrote about the very early days of Hoedad's titled, "The Birth Of A Co-operative." It is about the first two to three years of Hoedads, back in the early Seventies before I joined them. (I originally worked for contractors, much like the people who worked for Eilleen's dad, Jerry.) Someday I really should send a copy to the Timmons Shania Center. There is probably no way to get a copy to Shania, but I do think she would enjoy it. I found the book on Amazon.com a couple years ago, although I don't know if it is still in print. Enjoy, gary
Yes you should do something with this, even if it is just an A3 size display and send it off to the STC. Though I was only in Timmins for 1 week, Will Saari very kindly took me up country about 40K from Timmins to some clearcut and I got a real feel for how it was for you and Elleen and all the tree planters in that rough cut "hell" with 4 seasons a day and ground that varied from bog to flint hard. If the no see ums and the blackflies did not get me then the razor sharp brush did... and that was just walking about as a tourist!!!
This was in May and 2 deg C with horizontal sleet and wet snow, the very next day it was 19 deg C and blue skys!
Tom, what is an A3 size display??// gary
tower
12-03-2002, 3:33am
Oh sorry, forgot to explain... A3 is a paper size in Europe, about double the size of a single page of 8 by 11 inches, so 16 by 22 inches for A3 then you move double in size again to A2 until you reach A0 which is the size of a single garage door!
What I was suggesting was to make a BIG display and send it to the STC... I am sure they would like that... they like anything that is from Elleen's early pre-deerhurst days.
Oh by the way, still plugging away at getting Q Prime's attention, it is a bit like the film "Shawshanks Redemption" where the "star" of the film took 6 years writing a letter a week to get a reply ref. a library for the inmates! Latest is:
Dear Tom,
I've forwarded your email to my supervisor. Great idea!! Thanks!
