My name is Sybil, I am new fan of this lady, after buying her
new super UP-album.

I would like to say hello to you all and ask ,because of being
gay-female myself, what Shania think about gay-people?
Is she open-minded person?

By the way, is this her second album..I dont know yet much
about her.

She sure sounds very amazing and I dont like county tunes
very much, but she sounds good.

Bye, S
Hey!!! :)
Glad you're enjoying Shania's music.
First of all, I've never heard Shania say how she feels about homosexuality. But she seems like a very open-minded person, so I think she'd be accepting of it. Also, in an interview a guy was doing her hair, saying that he's not being very macho; not very much like a guy. And then he says "I guess I just came out of the closet." and they both laughed. So I'm sure she's okay with it.
Second of all, this is Shania's 4th album.
Shania Twain was released in 1993 and only featured one of Shania's songs on it.
The Woman in Me was released in 1995. Shania co-wrote the songs with her husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange.
Come On Over was released in 1997, and again they wrote all the songs together.
Up! is her highly-anticipated first album in 5 years. Again, all songs written by Shania and Mutt.
Welcome to the Shania World! :D

Just a pet peeve of mine - being open-minded means that you give differing opinions fair consideration. Being open-minded does NOT mean that you automatically accept or agree with every differing opinion. That's being empty-minded. :)

I don't mean to start trouble. I just wanted to point that out. And welcome to the forums, Sybil. :)

I think that Shania is a nice and genuine person, and I think that if someone is a good person, they see others for who they are, regardless of race, religion, and sexuality. If shania was in any way Homophobic, I would be VERY surprised.

Yeah, from everything I heard her say & about
her,I would be surprised if she was at all
bigoted.

Just by reading Shania's lyrics and witnessing her insisting feministic view points (She's not just a pretty face, Juanita, Man I feel like a woman, In my car I'll be the driver), I would think that is Shania is very forward-thinking and accepting of differences.

And by the way, when I first heard the song "I'm Jealous", I just felt this strong feminine vibe to the love expressed in her poetry. It just seems like it's a song she addresses to a female...But we'll never know.

Shania has worked with gays in her career quite often from what I have seen and read and heard - she treats gays the same as straights from all accounts.

Marc Bouwer, Shania's favorite designer, is gay.

:) I'm very accepting of people regardless of their race or sexual orientation. I'm sure Shania's the same way.

I'm sure her husband know very well who was being addressed in that song. ;)

He doesn't have to know in my opinion, and I'm sure he doesn't even care...music is the place where a songwriter expresses all kinds of different ideas, stories and feelings -Just like the writer does with his litterature, or a screenwriter with his movie script-. It does not have to be her own story. It simply has to be something she wants to explore from an artistic point of view.

And of course, every song -especially when it's as brilliantly written as this one- is open to interpretation... What I personally read in lyric is a story of a forbidden love : The jealousy towards the sun is being used as a metaphor, to express the sentiments the singer feels towards the lover she wishes she could catch the eye of. But as life's unfair, she has to witness her graceful and carefree flame pour all of her attention towards the sun and the moon.

A timeless Piece of Music!

I'm Jealous

If I were the moon, I could catch your eye
I'm jealous of the moon
If I were the wind, I would make you fly
I'm jealous of that too

I wish I were the sun shining on your face
Caressing like a lover
I would wrap you in a warm embrace
We'd be holdin' one another
(I'm jealous of the sun)
I'm jealous of the sun
(Jealous of the sun) Oh,
I'm jealous of the sun

Oh, I don't wanna share you with nothing else
I gotta have you to myself
Oh, I can't help it, I'm so in love
I just can't get you close enough, no

When the sun's on your skin
I can't hold it in
And I know it's a sin
But I'm jealous of the sun

I wish I were the rain runnin' down your neck
And drippin' from your fingers
Then I could be the drops rollin' off your back
I'd love to let it linger
(Jealous of the rain) Oh,
I'm jealous of the rain

Oh, I don't wanna share you with nothing else
I gotta have you to myself
Oh, I can't help it, I'm so in love
I just can't get you close enough, no

When it rains on your face
I almost can taste
Your beauty, your grace
I'm jealous of the rain

[i]When the wind's in your hair
The way it blows through the air
Oh, it's seems so unfair, yeah

When the moon's in your eyes
You seem to light up the skies, yeah
And I realize
I'm even jealous of the moon

You know what? I actually read "I'm Jealous" like that too! The way I first heard it was that Shania was singing about a forbidden love or someone that she can't have. Even though she may not be able to relate, that does not mean that she couldn't have written it to be either artistic or from the point of view of someone else! I love this song so much :) And welcome to the board Sybil :)

Welcome to the forums.

You are't the only gay female here I am too well I really don't Know how Shania would feel towards gay/lesbian/bi people she may have some lesbian fans you'd never know. But I'm pretty sure Shania would feel okay about you or I or anyother female fan being a Lesbian.

Shania is a big fan of Elton John and he is gay, too. I don't think she has any problems with homosexuality.

Welcome at the forums Sybil!!!! Hope you'll have a great time here!

As a man, when I first heard "I'm Jealous", I definitely thought she was singing it to me.

I still think that. :D
