I just have a couple of questions about the sales of "Up!"

1. Does anyone know how many copies "Up!" sold the first day?

2. How many do you think it will sell this year?

I just wanna say I think it will do amazingly before Christmas. Most kids want a few CDs for Christmas and grandma's are more likely to buy wholesome Shania than other hot-selling acts like Eminem who need to wash their mouths out with soap.

"Come On Over" didn't even have ground-breaking first week sales but kept steadily selling as Shania cranked out the hits as she will do with "Up!" as well.

Below is from Jimmy Carter at All Access (Tracks record sales and airplay)

The Shania CD is selling, yes, and it moved 300,000 units on day one. That's great by any standard, but the bar on this album was placed very high for one week sales. They supposedly want a million sold in the first week, and now some have lowered that expected sales figure to 800,000. It will debut at number one on both the Pop and Country charts, but her team wanted to establish a big beachhead with a million sold.

Now the big question is this: Will she tour? Probably. But, in USA Today she is very vague about her plans. Why is everything involving Shania vague? The new brand of Country star (Shania & Dixie Chicks, to name two) are not your daddy's Country stars. They've got different vibes, styles, and attitudes. Not all of that is a bad thing, mind you … but it's certainly not all good, either!

Go out and get the Entertainment Weekly with her big feature in it. It's well written and you get another reporter not scared to say things are weird when they are (see the Faith article in Jane, too). Shania's henchmen had this reporter in a spy movie with several cars and driver changes en route to a photo shoot. What would it be like to sell 34 million copies of one CD and live in fear? Fame should come with an on and off switch!

The biggest retail sales day and weekend of the year is just about here. Post-Thanksgiving may be a little weak, it is feared. How will Music Row do? Better than their Pop cousins, it is being predicted. The new Tim and Shania, along with some good Christmas CD's, should help ease the long, dusty drought.
