...was obviously not emphasized enough in the movie and show "Jackass".
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio State University student says she's been left with $2,000 worth of medical bills after being hurt by a stunt similar to those performed on the MTV program "Jackass."
Leith Fava said her nose was broken and she had teeth chipped from a can of tuna believed to have been shot from a giant slingshot as she walked down a street near the university on Sept. 28. Fava said the area around her right eye required stitches and was badly bruised. No charges have been filed, and other OSU students suspected of putting together the slingshot aren't talking. "I've gotten absolutely no cooperation," said Columbus police Detective Samuel Feldman. He said the students involved in the food fight leading up to the injury "know who did this, but they refuse to make a statement."
Students at the house from where police believe the can was launched are being represented by Norman Incze, a lawyer from Avon Lake. "I don't let any of my clients talk to police," he said. "If any one of the students I'm representing indicated to me that he knew anything about who injured this girl, I would certainly come forward. But nobody's indicated that to me." The fight involved residents of two off-campus houses across the street from each other. Fava was visiting friends nearby when the food started to fly. Seeing some people she recognized, she walked to one of the houses to greet them. At some point, the volley escalated. "All I felt was a ton of pressure hit me on my right side of my face, and I hit the ground," Fava said.
"They were just throwing eggs and water balloons at each other. I wasn't prepared to be hit with a can of food." She said that including a trip to the dentist; she has medical bills totaling $4,000, with insurance picking up about half of that. She was hit a week before she graduated from the Ohio State School of Cosmetology, where she trained to be a skin and makeup specialist. Fava graduated, but said her injuries postponed her job search and put her in a financial bind. "I wanted to interview, but what am I going to say - 'Hey, I'm a wonderful makeup artist, but my face looks mangled'?" she said. Feldman and Fava say that at least three people had to be involved in the stunt that injured her because that's how many it takes to operate the slingshot.
