I agree with the post to a point. As fans people naturally want to discuss Shania. The reason why the pregnancy rumor was a hot topic was because it was something that many of us wanted to be true. That post by Lindsay was made in replay to some other posts expressing disappointment that Shania probably will not attend the opening of the Shania Centre. I would bet that nearly everyone who visits this messageboard approved of Carol and Manu's visit and are happy that they shared it with us. There are many fans on this board that do respect Shania and her privacy. I know personaly that they are good people and don't deserve to be told they are not fans!
For you to come on this board and blatently say that we are not fans is just disrespectful and childish.
If you have a problem with this board, I would recomend that you should take Heather's advice and bid farewell.
We are always open to meating knew people here and to hear what other's have to say. But it's just not nice to question our fanship for Shania. Who I know we all love and respect.

First of all thank you for contarbuting to the conervsation even if your comments are not well recived.

I disagree with you on Manu and Carol seeing Shania. They do (Well in Manus case did?) live in Sistzerland, so its not unreasonalbe to say that if they went on a visit to near where Shania lived they could meet her. Yes they met her twice but they don't pester her all the time. In fact there was a great deal of time in between meetings. Its not like they where camping outside her house. And it should be noted that what Silvia said was simply a joke and did'nt really mean aything.

As for how we conduct ourselfs. I totally respect Shania and her right to privicly, I would never want to see her hurt in anyway. We all feel like that on here.

Untill a week ago I lurked your Forum, I don't anymore because I have very little time now due to my fianl exams at college. I found it a genally good place, but I have to admit I did see a few negative comments about this forum that where uncalled for. I know that you have a diffrent style of User to us but we deffentlly don't love Shania any less than you do. Its a shame you think we do.

Apologies for the jealousy comment - just searching for the logic behind bringing the girls visits up again when the message poster should know that the girls might visit the message board and read it. It's easy to take an ideological position when most of us live thousands of miles away. Anyway, I don't think they invaded Shania's privacy. The girls asked for autographs, asked permission to take pictures, and Shania didn't seem bothered by it at all. It's not like they were outside Shania's gate with a teloscopic lense taking pictures of their private life.

If I’m to refer at the moral guidelines described by Lindsay in her post, in my opinion what Manu and Carol did was not an invasion of Shania’s privacy. If we take the facts as they happened, the conclusion is that Shania was the one that initiated the interaction and not the girls. As far as I know they didn’t knock on her door and they didn’t jump in front of her car forcing Shania (Mutt actually) to stop the car. Basically what happened is that Shania noticed there are some girls that are fans of hers and she was the one taking the decision to approach them at her own free will. In fact I must say when I read the story I was a little surprised to read that Mutt stopped the car, the probability of a star like Shania stopping the car and there for taking some chances just to speak to some fans was in my opinion pretty low. This shows how special Shania really is and it also shows that she enjoyed the actual event. She repeatedly said that she wants bring joy into people’s hearts and she simply knew that she could do that at that particular moment, not to mention the fact that she had something to gain from this experience too, since we all know she said the only thing she was missing since she took the break was her fans. So she got a small glimpse of her fans right there. So in my opinion there is nothing to worry about or to feel guilty about in those particular situations alone.

Now I’d like to refer to some other things in Lindsay’s topic. As some other people said, it is a good thing that someone has put those things on paper and addressed the whole issue. If I remember correctly we discussed about this months ago, but it never hurts to do it again in a more organized and focused way, especially with the newly developed context with her pregnancy, our own experience with For Real and all the other rumors.

What I would like to say is that in my opinion we give Shania too little credit for certain things, especially regarding her view of the relationship with her fans. I think Shania is an intelligent person and she has learned more about people’s reactions towards her than any of us can understand or imagine, for the simple reason that we have not been in the same position as she is. She is also very tolerant in comparison with other artists and she was looking at other artists earlier in her career in the same way we are looking and feeling about her. Ok, so here is where I may defer from other people’s opinions: if somebody tells me Shania was surprised to hear about the pregnancy rumor that started when she took the break, I will NOT believe him. Why? Because it was one of the first things a normal and sane person would think when he hears some news like that one about the break. Remember that Celine took time off about the same time with the declared intention of having a baby. So it was logical for that rumor to come up, it wasn’t at all surprising (at least not for me). Lack of information leads to speculation and the result of any speculation can be called a rumor. And I think Shania knows that.

I am not sure I totally agree with the idea of ignoring a rumor that we don’t know much about. Discussing a rumor means risking a potentially immoral and uncomfortable situation for some people (that is the bad part of it), but also serves as a way of gathering information. There is always the possibility of someone knowing more about that thing you heard and that information could be the key to proving the fakeness of the rumor. But if you don’t get that information because you don’t discuss the rumor, you may remain with a certain unhealthy suspicion in your hart that may not be very pleasant either. As always the answer is compromise, somewhere in the middle. We need to be careful what we read and believe, try to gather as much info as we can without bothering others and asking nicely only if we get to a dead end.

I’ve read an interesting idea about what Shania would think if she were to come and read one or more of the forums on the Internet, about being uncomfortable with the things written. I don’t know about this. Let’s say she doesn’t know anything about what people are saying about her, about the rumors circulating. This in my opinion is the most dangerous situation possible. In Star Trek language this would be called “first contact”. It might be that if she gets a good first impression she would stick around and continue to read, but if she doesn’t feel comfortable with what is being said about her, what would she do? As I said at the beginning of the post, I don’t think she would get very upset and turn off the computer or something like that. She would do that if she would read obscenities, totally disrespectful messages, etc. However I don’t think this is the case on the shaniaforums or on the STUSOFC. Only a small percentage of the topics on both sites are actually dealing with subjects that she might be uncomfortable with and on those topics the opinions are being expressed in a respectful and rational way. If you would read each forum for 5 minutes, I don’t think there can be any doubt about the general idea and the attachment of members for Shania. So what I’m saying is, in the normal case, if Shania would come for the first time knowing for example that there are rumors about her pregnancy and she would read the member’s replies on this subject, these exact concerns that have been expressed about the validity of the rumor, the idea of actually discussing the rumor, etc., I think the opinion she would make about the forums will be a POSITIVE one. As I said she is an experienced and mature person and she would know exactly how people really feel about her. Maybe I’m being too optimistic (it doesn’t happen very often) or just subjective.

My post does not come in contradiction with Lindsay’s. What she basically said is that we should avoid throwing rocks at Shania one way or another. What I’m saying is if by accident we throw a rock, she might not be as upset with us as we might assume. But of course, in essence, Lindsay’s right, we should try to avoid throwing rocks if possible, not challenge our luck. It is far safer and cheaper to prevent than to repair.

I think I will post this on the STUSOFC also, to be fair. On a personal note I would be extremely upset if these two topics would create a feeling of animosity between members of the two forums. What we are doing here is just express some opinions and not pass judgements on each other no matter where we came from and where we post.
