How do recording artist get paid? Do they get a paycheck or something?

I think that depends on contract. Maybe they get paycheck when Album is ready or/And they get more how much it sells, There maybe even artist that get monthly salary even they just record album.

Rappers get a big sum of money as there signed, so they can get a big image and make a few videos. When they have gotten going they then have to pay there company back or something.

New artists usually get paid by the record company, but when the album starts selling, they'll need to give back money to the record company for the making of the album and the marketing.
The artists don't often get rich from the albums. Touring is their meal ticket.

You only get money from giging if your signed, other wise my friends would be loaded, they play 3-4 shows a week every week for the past 3yrs, and they have not got anything (money wise) out of it. All they have is a strong underground fan base. The only money they have made is from selling there demos at gigs, they havent actually got anything out of it other than that, cause by the time you have paid for travel costs accomodation and other stuff they have nothing left, and neither do other unsigned bands.

Yeah they also get paid for whenever their song gets played on the radio and in clubs, etc.
