Shania rocks at the Grey Cup
EDMONTON (CP) -- No midriff but Shania Twain proudly exposed her roots during the halftime show at Sunday's Grey Cup.
"It's great to be back in Canada," the star singer said. "It's great to be home."
Twain, a native of Timmins, Ont., who now calls Switzerland home, wore a Canada tuque, yellow ski jacket, dark ski pants and furry boots as she performed with her band on a stage in the middle of the field at a soldout Commonwealth Stadium.
She opened with her new single, I'm Gonna Getcha Good and followed it up with the title song from the recently released album Up!
Twain was accompanied by hundreds of performers decked out in red, black and white.
Fireworks roared as she ended the two-song performance.
After the show, Twain was stopped by Mary Walsh of the television show This Hour Has 22 Minutes, who was in character as the brash Marg Delahunty. Walsh tried to do an interview in the end zone as Twain was leaving the field, but the singer seemed to decline the request.
Twain has sold more than 50 million albums in her career.
Edmonton fan Courtenay Burns was surprised that such a big star was on hand to entertain.
"It seems unreal," Burns said. "I didn't think she'd be here. It's great she came. She's proud to be Canadian."
Jordan Pogue said the game deserves a big star.
"It's a game that brings the whole country together. You need someone known all over the country."
Misty McManus of Edmonton said she was thrilled to see the superstar perform.
"It was kind of short, but I love her."
