View Full Version : Dressin' For the Grey Cup

Edmonton Sun reports this morning that the black patch on Shania's hat was a Bob & Doug McKenzie Patch. Excellent!
Thus, Shania Twain came on big yesterday around burgertime at Commonwealth, as hundreds of red, white and black dancers spun around her centre-line stage in tight formations, a technicolour marriage of Triumph of the Will and Cirque de soleil. Big but so fleeting - eight minutes on the stopwatch. Hello goodbye, as the Beatles put it.
Her band of short, impossibly smiley tour musicians mugged for the Jumbotron cameras, leaning on each other and on the Timmins-to-Switzerland former McDonald's employee, now the best-selling female musician on the planet. Pretty as ever, Twain appeared, shaped like an ice-cream cone, an inflated yellow parka topping painted-on tights and, just so we don't forget the obvious, big furry mukluks. She also had a Canada toque with a Bob and Doug McKenzie patch, not that there was time to linger on such excellent details.
And more on what she wore:
Some Edmonton fans were equally upset that the Esks lost as they were that Shania Twain didn't appear in a sexy outfit during the halftime show, like she does in some of her steamy music videos.
The Canadian singing sensation performed two of her recent hits at the half in a yellow parka, black slacks and boots.
"I'm disappointed. They could have put heaters out for her so she could have worn something hot," said Phillip Rarog, one of the many men who used their binoculars for the Twain show more than they did for the game.
Federal Health Minister and Edmonton MP Anne McLellan - who handled the coin toss at the beginning of the game - heard some of the comments about Twain's choice of performance attire during interviews in the stands.
"She is a Canadian from Timmins (Ont.). She's not stupid. She knows how to dress," said McLellan, who was on her feet dancing to Twain's music like the majority of the crowd.

I was really starting to get ticked when reading that article unitl I read what Anne McLellan had to say. At least someone in authority has sense! I mean Come On (Over), did they expect her to wear a bikini in arctic fridgid temperatures like that?

It looks like she spoiled some people with her sexy CMA outfit. I guess they expect her to dress like that all the time now.

I know I wasn't too happy about that either. This is what they had on Hix on six in the Edmonton Sun. " The game was the game. Sigh. But Shania Twain! Shania at halftime, with out much as a peep at her belly button! She had more coverage the the Eskimos defence. A yellow parka, black pants and a Canada toque. More clothes than a linesman. Not even colour co-ordinated, scoffed a few winter-fashion- conscious ladies at the game. Cold weather. s'mold weather. The men wanted a pep ever the breifest of peeps, at the famous middriff.
" She could have worn a Barbarella parka," said a disapointed fan Lee Weir. " YOu know ,a high cut parka that'd show her tummy. Big Saskatchewan farm boys play a whole game of below-Zero football with bare arms. Couldn't Shania just have flashed her belly button."
Or in my opinion she could've just sang like she did, I'm happy with that. She rocked the staduim and I'm a little more proud to be Canadian because of it.:)

Canadian men are just as bad as men everywhere or maybe even a little worse, eh, with their chauvinistic leanings and utterances!!!:) And some of those Canadian women's comments about color coordination, eh? If she wears a getup like she did on Letterman what did they think she would wear outside in Edmonton in their weather!?:)

I now most Canadians won't feel that way. Most of us are proud and love the Dickens out of you Shania. Most of us love you and don't need the belly button.:)

I just had to say that if its possibble I'm a bigger shania fan today, than I was yesterday. I loved the show and thought she looked to cute in the outfit. Wow, I am impressed more and more each day for the woman we all love so much.:) Nothing better than being a shania fan. Even if I won the 6 million and the Eskies won, the high light of the night was Shania.:)

I think fans should be happy for Shania wether she wear sexy outfits or not, It was freaken cold what do they expect, Shania to freez to death? So Shania dressed up warm well that's fine. Shania knows what the weather is like in Canada so fans don't like what Shania wore tough luck:p

Carley I still think she looked as cute as a button.:) The only thing I didn't like was she never stopped over at my house for a visit.:p Besides most people at the game where cheering for Shania and you could hear it. I think most people were happy at her preformance. I know I was. She has every right to be proud of the preformance and Edmonton loves that woman, most of us anyways.

Carley That didn't hurt me none, I'm not a die hard like with Shania. I don't think you need to be a shania fan to see what you have to offer as a freind or as a person, you just have to have a heart.:) But the shania thing doesn't hurt.:p

From Edmonton Sun Columnist Kerry Diotte:
HIT AND MISS: A woman who built her career on talent and sex appeal shouldn't have shown up at Commonwealth Stadium dressed like the Michelin man. Surely my fellow born-and-bred northern Ontarian could have survived six minutes in the cold wearing something sexier and more flattering.

MORE COVERAGE THAN THE DEFENCE
The game was the game was the game. Sigh.
But Shania Twain! Shania at halftime, without so much as a peep at her belly button!
She had more coverage than the Eskimo defence.
A yellow parka, black pants and a Canada toque. More clothes than the linesmen. Not even colour co-ordinated, scoffed a few winter-fashion-conscious ladies at the game.
Cold weather, s'mold weather. The men wanted a peep, even the briefest of peeps, at that famous midriff.

To some people it's just not about the music is it? It's ok for male stars to wear tight clothes (Mr. Yokem), or no shirt, whatever, to look sexy and thay don't get bashed for it do they? Nope, Geeez. Sometimes the way men treat woman, I feel embarrased to be a man. :)
