Every Monday & Tuesday, Hits Daily Double tallys the album sales from the previous week. These are point-of-purchase numbers and are usually pretty close to the Soundscan totals. Tally begins sometime after 10:30 AM ET and goes through Tuesday night. Refresh the screen for updates, every 5 minutes. Bookmark this site. You can watch the totals every week.

I have been following the progress for about the last half hour and the 'score' is now 265464 after 51.84%, which I assume is the percentage of retail sales in.
Now if you multiply that by 2 then it aint gonna get anywhere near the million mark, maybe 600,000. It does however look as if it will be number 1 and after all the album charts are a marathon not a sprint.
Are these figures usually accurate?
One thing is for sure it isn't updating every 5 mins unless there are periods when no sales are coming in.
Are these the same numbers soundscan uses? It looks like Shania is on her way to 550,000 to 600,000. Kind of below Arista's expectations..

This site tracks the sales of Wherehouse Music, Virgin,Fred Meyers, Hastings, Borders, HMV, Newberry Comics, and Tower. We still don't know the sales from Wal-mart, Sams, Best-Buy,
K-mart, Target, Circuit City, Sam Goodies, Blockbuster, and other major retail stores. With those numbers, look for a lot bigger numbers to come!

So sales from that site won't be the real sales? Who will give the real numbers then..Billboard or soundscan?

Billboard reports soundscan numbers. I do not know what affiliation that site has with soundscan. We are probably seeing correct numbers, but only partial numbers.

You are correct. Figuring WalMart, K-mart and all the others that are tracked by Soundscan including those that this site includes gives the more accurate number. Judging from what I've read, this site gives about 1/4 of all the sales that soundscan takes into account. Using that basis, you're looking at numbers around the 900,000 range. (Depending on how well she sold at Walmart ect)
of course, all this is simply guesswork. But I' bet it will be close. :)

HDD itself is still saying 800-900k. I posted the article, "Twain On Top." :)
Hopefully we will find out some numbers tomorrow, it seems like the wait for the number is almost as tough as the final days leading up to the release of the album.

No one can know what the numbers will be until they are officially released. Wal-Mart and K-Mart are two of the largest retailers for retail music. Without the numbers from these other stores, it's anybody's guess.

I can't wait to see the final sales report for the week. I bought 2 copies of it the day it came out @ K-Mart. There was several people buying them there. I was back @ K-Mart 2 days later & the woman in the music dept. told me they went through 2 cases within 48 hours.

Oh sorry. I was going with the reasoning her album sales determine her chart position. As there are also other albums mentioned and what the sales chart will be.

We have went with the road that charts are here too, cause US single charts are based on airplay on the radio, even though in other parts of the world the situation is not so.

Bear in mind that it will take awile for the results of private and online retailers to be tallied. Those could drive the numbers way up, but it could take several weeks to compile them.

The Billboard top 200 albums are not based on airplay. They are based on sales, which has nothing to do with the radio and TV forum.

I was not clear enough: All the other charts are here as well not just the US singles chart.
It started out as the airplay charts moved here, and then all the other charts followed.
There is always the public response forum to take these issues UP if need be :)

Does this tally include the walmart stores and other retailers and is it the world wide tally?
Not worldwide. US numbers.

aFinn is right. This is only US numbers. I don't know if it included Wal-mart, Best-Buy, K-Mart, Circuit City, and Sam Goodies. My guess is that it did, we are looking at what is very close to the official number. 861,651. Still unsure whether it will be doubled or not. Hopefully it will be!!!!!!

I am still confused ( I know, suprise huh) about this site and how it gets the information. From all that I have been able to read is most of what it does is sample sales and makes a guessamate as to actual sales. Although at times they are pretty close. But since they have no real measure of sales like soundscan, how do they work? It's a good mag, fun and entertaining and has a lot of insider information, which for the most part is as close to the facts as possible. I guess it works like the enquire rag huh? I just I don't understand how they get the numbers
