INSIDE STORY: TWAIN'S; WORLD
HAPPIEST MEMORY
The day I married my husband, Mutt Lange. It was so wonderful. We got married in my hometown in Canada and we had all the people who really mean something to us there. It was a private affair, but it was beautiful. My parents died in a car crash when I was 22, so the wedding day was a particularly poignant time for me and very special to have someone who is going to be with me for the rest of my life. He's my husband, my lover and my best friend and the greatest supporter I have in my life.
DREAM FREE TIME
I love horses and horse riding. You can feel very free when you are on the back of a horse, galloping for miles with just nature around you. If I could have any free time I'd escape into the empty plains of Canada or West America and just ride. I love the idea of that film City Slickers where you get to ride with cowboys. I could do that. I'm a tough girl. I grew up working on my stepdad's reforestation plot in Canada. I can lift trees and walk for miles. I was the strongest girl in my class at school. I'm also used to being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no home comforts at all, not even a bar of soap. To me that's very liberating.
FAVOURITE FOOD
I love food, but when I have cravings it is never for anything fancy. When I was growing up food was a luxury because my family was very poor. Often all we would eat was bread and milk for days, so I do appreciate what I put into my mouth. I'm a vegetarian and I don't drink alcohol. I like clean, healthy tastes. My cravings are always for things like vegetable pasta or breakfast cereals. I like angel hair pasta best of all and I love tofu. I like food that makes you feel warm and full afterwards.
BEST MEAL OUT EVER
I live in Geneva and there is the most gorgeous restaurant called L'Hermitage which is right on Lake Geneva. It's a beautiful place and the chef is a genius. When I'm in London I adore the Indian food at the Bombay Brasserie. If I don't have time to go I make sure I get take-outs. I don't know what they do to the food there, but it's delicious. My mouth's watering right now.
MY FAVOURITE RECENT PURCHASE I'm a bore because I hate to shop and I'm careful what I spend my money on. I think the last time I bought something for the house was maybe a set of glasses, nothing fancy - they only cost about £10 for a set. I buy things mainly for my son, Eja. The last thing I bought was some books and a soft toy. I try not to buy him too much because I don't want him getting spoilt. He doesn't own any designer clothes because I don't agree with that sort of pressure. He looks like any other one-year-old baby.
TOP TUNES
This is hard because I have so many. Music is like a drug for me - it can change my mood from happy to sad, energetic to lethargic. It was always my ambition to sing for Stevie Wonder because his was the first voice I fell in love with and he inspired me to love music. I adore Etta James and I think Pink is fantastic. She's got a really strong voice and look and has such energy.
BEST OUTFIT
I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed because it would have to be my sweats and a pair of flip-flops. I'm not into fancy clothes most of the time. But I like to feel like a woman - I feel sexy in a plain white T-shirt with nothing underneath. My husband disagrees. He thinks nude is sexy. He likes me naked. Still, I like the white T-shirt.
BEST BEAUTY TIP
OK, remember I'm a country girl and this is a pure country product. It's so country that only farmers use it - and me, of course. It's called Bag Balm and it is used to keep cows' udders soft and supple for milking. I use it all over my body from my face to my fingernails. I buy it in Canada from farm supply shops. It doesn't cost much but it is brilliant. And I promise it doesn't make you smell like a cow...
