Shania and Mutt Expecting a Pup
Now Shania Twain really feels like a woman.
The country popster and her producer-husband, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, are expecting their first child together, her spokesman confirms.
The 35-year-old singer's camp did not confirm any other details Thursday about the little bundle of joy in waiting. But according to the lately-somewhat-more-credible National Enquirer, Twain is four and a half months pregnant, and she was "giddy with happiness" when she broke the news to her Mercury Nashville record company execs.
The Canadian-born chanteuse has kept a low profile lately, shacking up with Lange in their home near Geneva, while recording her follow-up to the mega-plantinum 1997 disc, Come On Over. With Twain eschewing cowboy hats and boots for tight leather (and a frequently exposed navel), Come On Over spawned a bumper crop of catchy crossover hits, including "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" and "You're Still the One," two songs that scored her Grammys in 1999 and 2000.
Twain and Lange ("The One" of "You're Still the One") first met after the veteran rock producer saw one of her videos. He called her in Nashville while he was in London, and the pair began writing songs over the phone. Nine months later, in December 1993, they were married.
In a 1999 People magazine cover story, Twain wasn't quite ready to put a family ahead of her and Lange's professional work. "I'd like to have kids, but we're not planning at this point," she said. "Right now I'm dedicated and committed to my career."
But according to a "Nashville insider" quoted by the Enquirer, "Shania told me, 'I've always wanted to have a baby, but in my head, I always was thinking later rather than sooner. I guess later's finally arrived!'"
Twain's next album is due out sometime this year.
