In the shadows of Manchester lurks a pillow-packing pair of assailants. With videocamera rolling, police say, they sneak up on their victim, pounce and stupefy the victim with an unexpected weapon — a pillow.
Police said the bizarre attack took place at 4:40 p.m. Friday at the Vista Foods/Brooks Pharmacy plaza on McGregor Street.
Although the victim, a 47-year-old woman, was unhurt, she was “extremely frightened by what happened,” said police Sgt. Lloyd Doughty.
Police have designated the attack the Manchester Crimeline Crime of the Week and will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
The woman, who resides on Amory Street, had left the store and was nearing some pay phones when she noticed a teenager get out of a dark-colored van.
“Pillow fight!” the teenager suddenly yelled as he came closer to her. Then, he began hitting her with the pillow.
The woman told police the driver of the van had a camera and appeared to be videotaping the incident.
“Pranks are pranks but this was taken to another level,” Doughty said. “If this was two guys pranking somebody they knew, that’s one thing.
“This was a person who was minding her own business and, for the lack of a better word, was attacked . . . This was a total disrespect for this individual,” he said.
The pillow popper is described as a white male with blond hair, about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with a thin build. The driver of the van is described as a white man with dark hair in his mid-30s, about six-feet tall and with a medium to heavy build.
