A man was shot three times during an argument over beer in Hempstead on New Year’s Day, Nassau police said.
At about 5:20 Wednesday morning, the victim and two of his friends were drinking beer in an apartment complex courtyard at 35 Elk Street when they were approached by two men.
“They wanted beer from them,” Third Squad Det. Lt. Arthur McLoughlin said. But they told them they didn’t have any extra beer to share with the two strange men.
An argument started and one of the two men who approached the group of three shot the victim in both knees and right femur, McLoughlin said. “Right now it appears only one guy fired,” he said.
The victim, whom police described only as a 32-year-old Hempstead man, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. He was in stable condition yesterday, McLoughlin said.
The alleged shooter and the man who was with him ran away in an unknown direction. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous
