Ever since I joined these boards I keep getting pop ups of stuff I don't want to read. The ones I really don't want are the porn webcam pop ups. This is really getting out of hand, and I don't even go in chat rooms!! Is there a way we can change this? Thanks!!

Why dont you use a software that blocks the pop-ups?
Also; there are no porn pop-ups. If you encounter a so called "porn pop-up", please link us to it or take a screenshot so that we may verify it and take care of the problem.

ok, but can you help me do that? I'm not smart with all this computer stuff!! I don't know how to do any of that!
thanks!
You take a screenshot so that you press 'Print Scrn' button. Then you open some picture program, you should have at least Microsoft Paint? Choose paste in that program and save that picture in your comp.

Three words: Norton Internet Security. There is a feature for blocking ads (and pop-ups). I use it and it works really, really well.
Addicted..., I am sure how frustrating the situation may be, and we're sorry that you are having a bad experience. I must say however, I am most positive that there are no porn-related pop-ups.
Advertisements are, unfortunately, the only way we can afford to keep our sites (The Shania Twain Forums, shania.net, and sTwain.com) online for you for free. Our parent network, Roughstock Productions, is who controls advertisements shown throughout our sites (includes pop-ups). Concerns on network-wide ads/pop-ups (including any accusation of porn-related ads) should be directed towards Roughstock.

No popups?? I dunno what the hell I just got hit with then
Yeah, pop up stoppers will stop them but with an assault like that, it's only a matter of time till IE is broken. Some of these are pretty agressive too! I almost never see this kinda thing getting through but these are causing VB6 runtime errors and all sorts of problems.
Take a screen shot? I was more worried about pulling the plug to save my OS thanks!
You got something nasty going on here and I would guess you're gonna lose a lot of members and guests over it. ;)
Hmm, members have complained about this since last year and they are still manning their posts...
Really all you can do is use a pop-up blocker (I prefer Google Toolbar), AdAware, SpyBot S&D, and SpyBlaster, to help eliminate them. But mainly a pop-up blocker.
The point is why have these agressive pop ups? There must be lots of new members join here and get hit with these and say to hell with this and leave. We must be losing members, it was fine when it was normal popup windows but now its a joke. Yes all us computer literate people use pop up blockers but alot don't know how or where to get them and i really think it must be off putting to new members who are computer novices!!!
There seems to be a "I'm fine" attitude here, lets not worry about the rest!!

to prevent pop-ups just download something like the google toolbar and perhaps a different browser like firefox (regular IE can be a nightmare)
if you already have these and still get pop-ups all the time then you probably need to scan your computer for spyware using something like adaware
Yeah, I've got the google toolbar too. It works perfect, almost, sometimes there are some pop-ups, but not so many as before. :)

I used to get a whole wack load of popups from this site (don't recall seeing any porn ones though). I got a pop-up blocker and blocks everything!!! Only once so far this month has it missed one. :)

So I should install a bunch of "assorted software" and other junk onto my server to protect me from the abusive onslaught of ads that are launched when I visit your site .......
why doesn't that make sense to me? http://wenpigsfly.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif
I joined earlier today, thinking it looked like a cool site, and because I also have some shania related stuff and your Google results are showing up in mine.
Now I'm concerned for anyone getting your links from wenpigsfly search results.
The thing is, this is a controlled assault your launching and it appears targetted to new visitors within the first "X" minutes of arriving.
I'm Not seeing them now, I wouldn't return to your site EVER if it happened again, popup stpper or no popup stopper. ! !
In reply to silly suggestions:
firefox is crap - you just haven't spent enough time on a computer to know that yet.
toolbars are crap - you just haven't spent enough time on a computer to know that yet.
excuses are crap - you just haven't spent enough time on a computer to know that yet.
The fact there are no laws preventing you from causing, or using methods that might cause, harm to any service or product I use, is NO exscuse for using them or ignoring complaints.
To then suggest to visitors how to protect themselves from such evil practices as your site employs is complete and utter lunacy.
Simply remove the offensive scripts and do your part towards cleaning this crap off the system once and for all.
Damn! I feel like I should go wash something now...... http://wenpigsfly.org/forum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif

I very much agree. And welcome.
My dad hates it when I download new things onto the computer, so he doesnt, and I'm sure as hell that he wouldnt let me download some fancy pop up blocker just for one site. When he download this crappy toolbar we almost had to get a new comp because of it, it wasnt working like it should have, in fact it was making more of them pop up. So anyhoo, no one computer literate or not, should have to suffer from pop up attacks...

I'm not sure why the nasty, negative posts are necessary. If you have questions, just ask.
We went through this in April, and I'll be happy to explain things again:
1) Pop-ups are the preferred method of advertising right now. The ONLY way to stop encouraging their use is through the use of browsers like Firefox and Opera that block them or toolbars like Google's or Yahoo's that block them. Once the ads stop working, and people don't clock on them anymore, advertisers will go elsewhere (as they are starting to do).
2) Installing a toolbar or an alternate browser is not hard, and it will give you many more benefits than just at Shaniaforums.com
Lots of other people made good suggestions in this thread:
http://www.shaniaforums.com/showthread.php?t=29514
You don't need to see Pop-ups! If you are a Windows user and want to eliminate your pop-ups, you have two solutions:
Internet Explorer users:
http://toolbar.google.com/
People who want to use something OTHER than Internet Explorer (or Mac, UNIX, Linux users):
http://www.mozilla.com/products/firefox/
http://www.opera.com/
You can get rid of pop-ups anytime, for free, without having to add spyware to your machine or switching to a Mac.
All of that said, if there are people here who want to pay for ad-free access to the forums, we can arrange that. You would pay a monthly fee ($4-$5), and you wouldn't see any ads. If you're interested, please mail me, Matt or Marika offline.
