Shania inspired by Vienna

After a 3 year baby break the canadian singer has her comeback

It´s the most sold album of a female singer and on the bestseller list of all time the album is on number 6 - together with ""With the Beatles" and "Back in Black" by AC/DC: Shania Twain´s "Come on Over" of 1998 was sold 34 million times.

A sensational success for the 37 year old canadian. To handle this, she disapeared from the spotlight and bought a chateau at Vevey at Lake Geneva with her husband, the songwriter and producer Mutt Lange. "Nobody recognizes me there, I can go skiing, hiking, riding my horses and shopping." Shania says in the "kult" interview. "I need that to stay grounded. I like to cook. If I wouldn´t do this normal things, I would have the feeling to lose control over my life."
For her comeback album "UP!" Shania wasn´t only inspired by the birth of her baby boy Eja in August 2001, but also by Vienna. Why she was writing the lovesongs in the capital city and why she´s fighting for hungry kids, read on page 33...

Fighting for the hungry kids

Shania Twain helps from her own experience

"Vienna is such a great city - so romantic!" Shania Twain still gets shining eyes when she remembers her visit in the capital city a year ago. At the beginning of December 2001 she and her husband producer Mutt Lange were sitting at the Café Central and were writing songs for their new album "UP!". "I know exactly, that we were drinking a "Melange" (that´s a special viennese coffee) and spontanously wrote the lyrics of "When you kiss me" on a napkin." the canadian tells at the "kult" interview. "But we wrote so much more here - most of all the lovesongs!" Also a part of the new hit "I´m gonna getcha good" were made between the "Freyung" and the Saint Stephens Cathedral. The canadian who lives at Lake Geneva doesn´t believe in the illusion to outsell Come on over. "To outsell Come on over is not my goal.", Shania explains. "I don´t have expectations in that. Much more important for me is, that it´s a very honest album. And that the messages in it are coming to the fans."
One of these messages is the fight against hunger in the world. Shania is fighting for that, cause she often didn´t get a meal when she was a child and she knows how frustrating an empty stomach is. "We were very poor. I grew up in Northern Ontario. In this area it was very hard for my dad to have work continualy", the 37 year old remembers. "He was also very proud and before he went to the social welfare office we starved. Even back than I had the vision to go to hungry families and give them food."
She gives money to the american benefic organisation "Second Harvest Food Bank" and also the VIP Tickets for her shows are being auctioned for the "Canadian Living Foundation" and a big part of the solds of T-Shirts, posters and calendars goes to hungry kids. "Now I´m financially in the position to help other people. That´s the most beautiful part of my success."

Thanks Jasmin. I have wonderful memories of Vienna -- it is a very grand and beautiful city. I can understand why Shania and Mutt were inspired to write love songs there. You are very lucky to live there!
