Opinions, Respect & Civility: A Concurring Opinion

I really think this annoucement was a great idea for all of us to take a deep breath and realize that while each of us have our own level of Shania mania, not everyone else is coming from our individual perspective.

The announcement made me aware of one thing that I think a great many of us, myself included, have been guilty of in our thought processes.

It's this:

Those of us who often have hair-triggers on their lack of tolerance levels of Shania criticism often don't give those posters the respect they deserve for what is almost always intended as constructive criticism of her.

Likewise, those who do post constructive criticism of Shania often seem to have a patronizing and condescending mindset toward those of us who would be just as happy if never a negative word of Shania was ever posted at these forums again.

The funny thing is, no matter which side of this critical divide each of us reside on, those that haven't been so moved by what Shania has meant to all of us probably see all of us as a bunch of zealots.

Hmm, I guess I should have moved this to Public Response Forum, but since the postings and most of the posters that led to this are here, I´ll leave this here for time being.

I hope everybody reads Matt´s announcement and starts acting in a way we can make this forum a more pleasant place it has been for the past few days.

If you see a post you think is unappropriate, report it or PM a mod.
The less replies or quotes, the less easier it is to remove it, if it is necessary.

Now let us get back to "normal" now :)

You're right. I HATE IT when people bash other singers! It's so rude and unrespectful. Like, on other boards, people bash LeAnn Rimes. I HATE THAT! I like her a lot. I don't bash other singers. There are singers I don't like but I don't bash them! I keep my own opinions to myself.

With any luck Gandalf!! But it really does look like they've had there fun, and have now left!!

Really, though... Why would anybody wanna spend there time purposely looking on sites, about artists they don't like, just so they can bash them??? It seems totally worthless, and why not look at sites of artists, they are actually interested in!!!!

Since some may not know what this thread is about after a while when reading this thread, here is the announcement :

This is a note for everyone:

In response to an unusually high number of petty squabbles and overall confrontational tone to a number of threads, I would like to ask everyone to please respect the opinions of others and respond to a difference of opinion in a mature manner. If someone posts something that you don't agree with and they do so within the boundaries of our Forums Rules and Policies, please don't respond to that person or post with a personal attack or otherwise rude or offensive post. A number of these squabbles would not even come up if some of you would respect the views of others.

Now if someone does post something which is in violation of our rules and policies, please contact a moderator (preferably by PM) and allow us to handle the situation. If someone's here to cause trouble, it's their goal to cause a stir. One way to see that they don't get what they want is to take the high road and ignore them and alert a moderator. Arguing with them will not solve the problem, it only magnifies it.

As moderators, we're not here to say who's views are right or wrong, we just want to make sure those views can be discussed in a friendly and plesant atmosphere. These forums are not a communist community, so we won't tell you what you can or cannot say about Shania or other topics. Just understand that these Forums were started as a place for Shania's fans to interact, so if you have absolutely nothing positive to say about her, you're probably not a fan and you should probably save your time and move on.

Just practice respect and civility and we should have no problems.

You know this whole talk about communism, maybe you should say Faschist, as communist implies total equality, and by aying were not communist, as if that reduces freedom, is kind of an oxymoron. Sorry if I'm being stupid by saying that.

The issues arising from one's "opinion" is too much . The basis of any forum is to involve the people frequenting and allowing thier ideas and opinions to be known. This does not give right to "bash" or utilize derogatory remarks; just because your opinion differs. We all are here due to some interest in Shania Twain........suffice to say, that if is so bad to cause undo stress or anger........we should be smart enough to go elsewhere.
The web brings in ideals and feelings from a multitude of people from different backgrounds/locations/sex/and ideals..............just because it doesn't conform to our personal one ..doesn't make right or wrong.
The ability of this forum to provide space for us to share and interact should be commended. The use of politeness and civility.....even when opinions differ....is show of true basic requirement to allow ensight into others ideas/belief/ etc......
If moderators must censor posts due to "flame" threads......then purpose to interacting between fans of shania is lost............

for better or worse is unknown......but to "talk" as adults with consideration and manners is of the basic necessity for an environment to thrive and enable sharing of thoughts and ideals.
WE are all HERE due to some issue or thought of SAhania.......lets not expect our view to be the same as others, but to relish to chance to interact with others in sharing ideas/thoughts/ etc with others who are here due to some interest in shania.
