View Full Version : even with over 40 million viewers,Superbowl didn't help Shania much...
I thought that with such an audience, she would rocket back up to at least a top 5 rank.
No such luck.
Up moved to # 9, according to Daily Double Hits...and the single keeps stalled at radio...
I think UP! is done...
I don't think that it is done. But as how I see it, the Chicks are the golden girls right now. They released an album that is a great departure from their last album. It is a great album. Every single is unique and unlike the other stuff they have released. Shania has also released an album that is very different from her last release, expect for a few songs. And she happened to release the two songs that are very similiar to her singles on COO. I hear all the time IGGG and UP! sound too much like COO.
When I play "In My Car........" Not Going Down....." Nah!" people ask me, "Who is that?" or "Is that Shania!!??" because it sounds so different; it peaks their interest...... When those song are released then the album will garner more attention.
I don't know why she choose to release Up! as her second single. Even the people who love that song would probably admit that their are a lot more stronger songs, at least lyrically speaking, on that album.

I hear Landslide on radio stations that don't play country, so I guess you could say the Chicks are becoming more popular now more than ever.
The "pop" and "country" renditions of Landslide are doing really well; so is the video. I personally like Traveling Soldier more than Landslide, but I still love both songs.
I have a feeling that Home is gonna when the album of the year at the Grammy Awards.

I wouldn't count "UP!" down yet. anytime you get a +39% raise in sales, you have done something right. This is not a speed race, over the long haul, up will be make it's mark.
The chicks are doing very

Chloe No, I think that Eminem or Bruce will win, but look out for next year as once again they will be up against Shania. Hopefully once Shania releases the greater songs on the record, she will then be recognized.
Does anybody know if any more of the chicks songs will be remixed to make pop hits?
OK, how much do ya wanna wager? :D I need a new radio.........
But seriously, I have a feeling that it's gonna be the surprise winner in that category. But what choices.....I would be happy if Em or Bruce won, The Rising is an outstanding album.
2002 was a great year for music.

You know the Chicks' first single didn't do all that well, and their album kinda stalled some as well...now it has gotten hot again.
The same will happen with Shania. COO didn't REALLY blow up until after the 3rd single. Then there was no stopping it. There are several songs on this album that could put it in the spotlight to stay. I vote for either "Jealous" or "Forever and For Always" for the next release. She needs a slow song out next, and both of those songs move me when I hear them.

I'd go for Forever and For Always...
to me it has more of a familiar COO-feel, something that
would possibly lure those who are still on the fence with
purchasing UP!
Jealous on the other hand has an incredible soundscape!
Ahhh..!
:)
Hmmm... perhaps before starting the full-scale tour,
just to prove those in doubt of her abilities, Shania
should go back to those smoky bars and do a couple
of unplugged performances..?
just a thougt...

I'm guessing she'll either release "Forever And For Always" or "When You Kiss Me" as her next single.
Don't worry, after WYKM, FAFA, Nah, IAGD, IJ, WBMW, CLV, etc... her album will soar UP like COO.
I agree with chloe on her choices for the first two singles.
I think IGGG was a great choice, but UP sounds too much like IGGG to get big numbers. I think Shania is playing it smart. "Up" is a really good song that has #1 potential and she needed a country radio hit. I think her next single will be a ballad and they seem to really help any artist. YSTO jump started COO again. Don't worry! :)

Jealous would do for Up! what YSTO did for COO, as it was departure from thier previous slow songs, YSTO was like nothing on TWIm, and Jealous is like nothing on COO....

Chloe;
I agree 100% with what you said.
Here's my take on the album. Since the last three songs off of COO were barely able to crack the Country top 40, Mutt (Or whoever ) decided to try and give "UP" more legs then COO. The way to do that would be to save the better and best songs for future release. Now granted, it's always a gamble and not many artist would even attempt to do that. (Most will release the two best songs first. so the album will get off the starting blocks) I think they felt that Shania's star power alone would carry the first couple of singles, and the album would sell fine without a "Super" hit for the first four or five months. If that is the plan, then it's working quite well up to this point. We all know that there are quite a few "Star" songs on the album, I ain't going down" is one that I still feel will be a runaway hit on Country.
Only time will tell if this is the plan, and if it is going to work.
Radio airplay really has less to do with album sales anyway these days (Example would be Terri Clarks, I just wanna be mad", It's been on the charts forever (25 weeks) now it is #3 on Billboard Country singles, but the album has yet to sell even 200,000 copies.
On album of the year, It could be the Chicks, They will get the Country Album of the year for sure, but I think "Norah Jones"
COME AWAY WITH ME will take all POP honors this year.

Hi, don't forget the facts:
It took 5 yeas for COO to reach the 19 million salesmark. Let's see when she goes on tour.
Shania is not like Eminem that rocket into the charts, sells big and the drops like a rock.
Shania has another mature audience and will have slow consistent salg over a linger period of time.
Besides. If you a real Shania-fan, the sale doesn't really matter - you like her music, regardless of what other may think...
