The first single (vinyl 45!) I ever bought was Def Leppard's "Photograph". I liked the song so much I taped it and smuggled it and my tape player onto the van going to church camp. Naturally,I got busted...but it was worth it. That camp was boring as hell and I needed some good music. http://www.shaniaforums.com/smile.gif

Since that time I could always tell a song was written or produced by Mutt. To me that's one of the signs of a great writer and producer...distinctiveness. Mutt is a fantastic melodist...his motifs are always very well developed and one musical idea always segues into the next effortlessly. And because of the natural color of his melodies, the harmonies that accompany are equally colorful..even if it's just a standard I IV I V I progression. As a songwriter I know...that's a gift. He works within the rigid framework of "formula" music but his songs never sound fomulaic or cliche..they are always fresh and inventive. I respect the hell out of that.

And as a producer he is the "king"...
even other songwriters I know who don't like Shania and Mutt's songs have to give him props for his incredible production skills. I suspect that much like the old boys in Nashville...they're just jealous and it kills them. That is such a great quote from Shania!!!
With that in mind, her songs TWIM, YSTO, FTMO, and YGAW...really describe her feelings for him.

A funny story I have on tape, is Shania talking about how she will spend weeks writing a song, show it to Mutt, and he says "Well. its not that good, you should change...this, this, and this." Shania in the interview continues.."Well, thank you very much, I just spent two weeks on that." and she starts to laugh, and says that he is such a good partner to write with.

Now, if Shania and Mutt would do a real duet!! It would be awesome for her fans, but Nashville would attack them as copying Faith and Tim, since they kind of beat the duet thing to death.
