I'm glad to see that this forum has been created.
Thanks Marika and others (if there are any) who made it happen.
I look forward to sharing TImmins and Shania related news with all of you.
I'm also looking forward to meeting many of you at the convention this August.
Those attending will have a BLAST!

Hey Ren :)
We are looking forward to more updates about the Fan Convention :) Last year's event was amazing, from what I read, so this year it should just get better :p
Whoa! Thanx administrators for setting up this forum. I'll have lots to say later. Gotta go now for another birthday party (my third so far!)

...I somehow expected this would happen..! :p :funny:
...here's a few links to get you people started, and a few words from the Lycos Travel Destinations - Timmins... (they need some updating):
Overview
Timmins' boosters like to call their home the city with a heart of gold, and while its residents may well be noted for their warmth, the tag has more to do with its mining roots.
Timmins was still known as the Porcupine Camp back in 1909 when gold deposits were found in the Dome Mine, and in a pair of other mines in the following years.
Named after the family that bankrolled the first mining efforts, Timmins is now a modern, thriving city in a part of northeastern Ontario that remains largely unspoiled. The region is mainly forest, interspersed with countless lakes.
While Timmins' economy has diversified through the years, there's still gold in the ground and mining remains king.
But Timmins also has a queen these days - Shania Twain. The pulse-raising country singer may now live in upstate New York but her real home and her roots are in Timmins.

cool - thanks :bounce:
Thank you everyone for getting this section up and running, I will try and cut and past my comments from last years Fan covention on the threads here as they develop to try give new convention folk a flavour of 'what exactly is going on here' to quote our dear Shania from the UP! Concert DVD.
I do hope the couple who exchanged there wedding vows on stage manage to pay a visit sometime to Timmins, that would be so much fun for them both.

What about the Scottish, Finish and other countries Shania Fans who WILL attend?
You sound like you are a young person. If Shania can make her dreams come true... SO CAN YOU.
You have a chance at life I have mostly lived out, you have a dream? then work at it and 'make it so'
Good luck.
We now have a Timmins Fan Convention section - it has taken almost a year to bring this about but collectivly it has been done. That is the easy part.
The hard part is educating some on this message board that Shania will NOT have to be in Timmins to make it worth while attending. That is the really hard part.
Anyone who is a so called fan of Shania has to be a litte bit curious of what the childhood was like, how it felt to attend the Timmins vocational high School and go up country planting trees.
I hope you will all want to listen to the memories those who were close to her such as John Paul Aubé has to say. He gave Shania her first commercial break when he employed 'Long Shot' in JP's Lounge bar just across the road from the present Days Inn. Before that he employed her at the local MacDonalds which he still owns to this day.
Sadly the Maple Leaf hotel is no longer open, but go to just about any major Tavern or Bar in Timmins and you can be assured, Shania played there as a child.
The 2003 Convention members were invited to the Shania Twain Suite in the Days Inn to view his collection of unique autographed Shania artifacts and JP spoke to us as a group and as individuals over a free brunch.
I Think I still have the photo's online at:
http://www.tower-electronics.com
That was NOT on the official programme but Heck this is the Timmins spirit for you. Go - enjoy the people of Timmins and each other and come back, batteries recharged with a whole new respect for Shania Twain and all who care about her.
I promised JP after he told me we had filled the 7th floor of his hotel that this year YOU WILL FILL ALL THE FLOORS OF the Days Inn and I hate to have to be proved wrong, so do it for me too as sadly I may only manage to visit in May of this year.

...yep, as I've mentioned before: getting to know some of the background adds depth to the Shania-experience...
well, there are also other reasons which attracts us Finns to that area...
...some things that Shania mentioned on stage in Helsinki...

...to some of us, the trip's not only for exploration of the origins of an artist - but also an expedition into one's own family history and understanding of the over a century worth of immigration...
