View Full Version : Need a Ride?

I am addressing this post to fans who live in Ontario in particular. Most Ontarians live within a day's drive of Timmins. Well, it is a long drive - nine hours of actual driving from either Ottawa or Toronto. But it is doable.

If any fans need a ride up to Timmins, I was thinking maybe we could organize carpools. I live in Ottawa and will be driving to Timmins. I will be able to take one or up to three passengers, depending on which of our cars is available that weekend. I know a number of Shania fans across Ontario from other boards as well as this one. If any of you need a ride, send me a private message or email me at: rbaggley@hotmail.com I may be able to set something up for you.

Or, if any of you are driving to Timmins and are able to take passengers, let us know.

I think we should all try to help one another in a true Shania spirit! Also carpools can be fun!

This is a great idea Roger. If carpooling will allow us to have more participants, I'm all for it.

And people should be aware that there will be shuttle service during the convention so transportation will be organised for all participants during the event.

I might need a ride if someone is willing. I am not old enough to rent a car and will be flying into Toronto. If anyone might be able to and is willing to take me let me know.

Heh glad to see you're going to the convention. My wife and I were there last year and it was a blast. Our hotel room was right across the hall from the Shania Twain suite!!

I'll be driving up to the convention too...Starting at the Northern Boarder of Indiana, driving straight up the middle of Michigan, crossing the bridge at Sault Saint Marie (the Soo) and onward to Timmins......In my car, I am the driver, in my car, I'm in control, In my car I come alive yeah, in my car, I'll get to Timmins.....Watch me now!!!!

Also there are probably only a few flights a day to Timmins, so the schedule of airflights will be available and if we get an update on who'll be flying in, we can work out to get carpools arranged so that you don't need to rent a car once you fly into Timmins. Once you're in Timmins, you won't really need a car because the STC has a bus service arranged unless you want to go off exploring on your own.

Thanx Esther but, unfortunately, since I made the offer, plans have changed a little so at this point I can take someone up to Timmins from the Ottawa area but not back again. The convention coincides with the week our extended family take a vacation at a lake in Muskoka. We have been struggling with which event to go to or how to work both events in. My wife and I decided we won't skip the convention but we will go to Timmins and go straight from there to Muskoka for the rest of the week. Sorry to anyone who naturally would like a ride both ways. :(

You can hop on the Timmins flight, from Toronto Pearson there is about 5 a day but it is expensive at around $200 Canadian, you fly by Turbo Prop Dash 8 and it takes around One and a half hours. Taxi from the Airport to the City Centre is $16 to $20 depending on the traffic. A cheaper option is by Bus at around $120 but it takes 12 to 14 hours for the day bus as it stops everywhere. The overnight bus is quicker as it makes less stops.

Bus station is withing easy waking distance of the Days Inn and Bon Air Motel.

I don't recommend the Train (Northlander).

I think you may have just had some bad luck with the train Tom as most people who I have talked to who have taken it have had only good things to say. i took it myself, although a few years back and found it very comfortable. For a big guy like me, there is a lot more leg room than on a bus or an airplane. And you can always get up and stretch your legs which is nice.

Oh yes when we got on the Train after Midnight it was everything you said, but the Conductor GAVE away my seat while I was at the Buffet Car!!! and the bus journey to North Bay through the evening rush hour Friday traffic was ####! (Train was cancelled between Toronto and North Bay 3 nights in a row)
