View Full Version : Shania Twain Centre goes to Nashville!
Tracy has felt sorry for me, telling Bob and I all about the great things lined up for the 2004 Fan Convention and then asking us to keep them off the net for now that she has allowed me to post this little 'GEM'
Fanfair 2004 in Nashville has invited the Shania Twain Centre to host a stall this year and the Centre has accepted!
In addition to promoting the 2004 Shania Twain Worldwide Fan Convention and the City of Timmins in General, Tracy is going to bring some Shania costumes to Fanfair and display them to the 160,000 plus who are expected to turn up for this annual event.
It was Fanfair 1993 where Shania first met Mutt Lange and fell in Love. I have been invited to go along as a helper, but not sure what is happening with my life about then.
The good people of Timmins have continued to extend there open and warm welcome to Bob and myself and yesterday Tracy gave up part of her holiday weekend at her cottage in the country to join Ren and entertain Bob and myself at Caseys, a well known local bar and grill.
If you want to go to Timmins just to meet Shania Twain then FAN CON 2004 perhaps is not for you. If you want to come along and share with other super Shania Fans the warmth and open hospitality that is the norm for these hardy northern folk then please try register for this years event at http://www.shaniatwaincentre.com
Especially you Girls as they have something rather special planned and this years events are going to eclipse last year, something I did not think was possible.
As a world weary traveller who has spent more time in hotels in cities round the world than I care to remember, I can tell you that Timmins is very special and rare in this modern world. Try make this years Fan Convention if you can, for I know you will have the best time ever and will be talking about it for years after, just as the original 30 or so who attended the first year's events have done.
You will find pictures on my web site of last year and some of the events http://www.tower-electronics.com/shania.html which will give you a hint of the fun to be had.
Tom in Timmins 'till June 2nd.

Thanks for this tom
Carley
That is great
It sure is Sir, Tracy and the Gang will kick up a storm for sure. I am not sure Timmins is quite ready for Fan Con 2004 - I did tell them once they start an event like this it would build and build into an unstoppable force for good.
Bob is now Art's director for today at the Shania Twain Centre working on a display of live concert pictures taken by fellow fans and donated to the Centre. Some really cute pictures will be hanging on the wall shortly.
Tracy has put me to work as well, I have spent an hour or so up a tall step ladder changing ceiling display lamps, as I am working visitors to the centre are walking round and I am trying not to get in the way.
Tracy has typed and signed a letter to the owner of the Globe Tavern Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands confirming that venue as the most southerly Shania video party in the world ever.
I have enclosed some neat gift shop items as well to make the centre of a Shania Twain display for her Tavern. I know Julie will be so excited when she gets the STC letterheaded message.
We are being spoiled again, it's a Timmins thing you just gotta come here and experience for yourself.
Thanks for this tom
Carley
You are most welcome Carley, I know you will make it to Timmins sometime and I can promise you the best time EVER! We are being spoilt - no other world for it. The Centre staff are so good to Shania's fans.
One day I hope to make it to Timmins, but work seems to be getting in my way. I would love to go there and help out at the centre if I could. I'm an 8 hour drive or so from there. If I could only get the time off work. I would love to meet all Shania fans again!

I hope you do David, last year was just so good. This year will be even better! I wish I could tell everyone what is lined up for the first and last events but Tracy would kill me and that would be no fun at all ;)
Timmins is just full of very nice people. I love coming here, even when there is no concert or convention I feel so comfortable staying in Timmins.
You could always go to Nashville for the Fanfair and say hi to Tracy on our behalf

I was talking with Tracy today and asked how it went at Fan Fair. Well, it went as well as can be expected. Many (most) had never heard of the Shania Twain Centre. Let's not think about what that means in terms of the communication between Shania's label, her management and the STC. On the other hand, a lot of people were really interested. Of course most people already have their summer vacation already planned but there is hope a lot of these people at Fan Fair will think about the STC and the fan convention in 2005.

Well that is not a big shock Roger, I was amazed in Grand Rapids how many Shania Fans were NOT online when I spoke to them before the Concert.
At Fan Fair I guess it would be worse as some would not surf Shania only sites anyway. I think the personal touch with the booth will pay off big time in the long term, but to advertise in a country so saturated with advertising on Radio and TV would not be effective and would be very expensive.
The best thing people with Broadband can do is raise awareness of the STC on the Country and Western message boards around North America. That was a great photo John by the way and shows just how well the STC is now geared up to do these concert and Fan Fair booths. Well done Tracy, I am proud of you Girl.
The STC could look at Banner advertising on the Major Music sites in the USA, but if they are anything like the ##!!%%*** Pop ups and Flash movie scripts on this site, I would not bother. This latest attack of multi media madness here with the Macromedia Flash Movie causes my PC to hang due to my slow dial up connection and often I get so fed up I just quit without posting anything. Who ever runs this site, please sort this out. Thank you.

Thanks for this. Shania rules in Trashville :D  :funny: :)

That got my funny bone going .... Trashville, I like it. I do however have great respect for Music City and the Detroit Mowtown revolution. What a pity those days and songs are no more.
I do respect Nashville and the many great songs which have crossed over to the POP charts around the world (Dolly Parton, Glen Cambell, Jim Reeves, Skeeter Davis, Tammy Wynett, Billy Joe Spears, Billy Ray Cyrus, Crystal Gayle, Patsy Cline, Charlene, Johnny Cash and the Mavericks) to name but a very few with massive international chart success outside of Nashville.
It is the REDNECK, American flag waving died in the wood traditional country and western fans that hack me off. They destroy, or try to destroy any artiste who gets that sucess outside of the USA and spends huge amounts of time and effort running them down at every chance on any type of media who will print/publish there opinion.
Holland Dozier (sorry if I can't spell them correctly) are touring the UK as I type this and kicking up a storm here with there tales of Music City back in the late 50's onwards.

I have respect for some of those singers you mentioned, inclusive I listen Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash and some other singers from there. But I don't like the way people has treated Shania, and I'm not talking about singers, I'm talking about powerful guys in music industry.

But we must be happy about her success outside NA, and she brighten Up! the world with her music, and that makes many people around the world happy.

Tom, I agree that it was a great idea for Tracy to go to Fan Fair to spread the word about the Shania Twain Centre.
My reference was to the communication (or lack thereof) between Shania'a label, her management and the STC. If you go to the website of that other Canadian songbird from my generation, Anne Murray, (http://www.annemurray.com/), you will see references to the Anne Murray Centre and also a link to the Anne Murray Centre website. This is pretty basic.
But you won't find any references to the STC or any link to the STC website at Shania's official website, or her official fan club, or the Mercury site (http://www.shania-twain.com/) or at http://universalcountry.ca/shaniatwain/index.php. The STC seems to be out of the loop.
I don't know if Shania will dump her label after her greatest hits CD comes out this fall or if she will dump Q Prime as her management after the Up! tour is over (she did take them on in great haste after the promotion for the Up! CD and tour had already begun) but it sure would be nice if her label, her management team, her fan club (if she will still have one) and the STC could all be integrated and working together.

This is true, so Dear Shania should you browse this way, if you could set up a Timmins based subscription only based fan club and employ local peope from you home town who actually give a damn 'cause Music Today DON'T that would be a FUN Idea.
May I suggest a bit of advertising in the Timmins Daily Press and then perhaps you will find the workers who will meet your standards, and almost those of us fans (we are a demanding lot after all ;) sorry about that).
I guess after listening to you and the Band we are used to perfection and demand nothing less! Sorry :(

:Jump Nice one Roger, I will have to get my feet under the table for a bit before I can make a difference, but that is one of the many, many reasons I want to retire in Timmins.
There are so many nice people out there who could do with the part time income an offical fan club could bring, but first the Global Web site via the Shania Twain Center, then one little baby step at a time.
The most crucial thing in all this is how Eilleen feels about it all, when all is said and done, it is her talent and name the fan Club lives off of.
I am sure she would look kindly to a REPLACEMENT Fan Club once the current contract has expired, run on a for profit basis if it could meet the standards of the people who post here on this site, and that is a demanding prospect which would challenge the people of Timmins..
I Just know they would rise to it in some degree of style!!!!!
I can see you have already given all this some thought, Tom. Yes, there is the little matter of what Shania would like.
Roger
I am sure she would look kindly to a REPLACEMENT Fan Club once the current contract has expiredAh, I certainly would have nothing against such development. The Fan Club run by Music Today is far from what a FanClub should be like :(

Hi everyone,
Sorry to be so late responding to this. Actually, there is a link to the STC on the official site, but when the site was revamped some time ago (quite some time ago) the shuffle made us harder to find. If you go to EXTRA and then LINKS, we are listed. Initially, it was much easier to find the links and we noticed more hits on our site when we were linked with them, after they changed the site however, we became harder to find, but the link is still there. We also used to have a link off of the mercury site, but I haven't been there to check in some time.
I would really like us to be more actively involved in the fan club, and I will not rule that out. Aside from the fan club, we have an excellent relationship with management and Mercury. We have worked with them on several projects and I must say that they make time for us when we request anything.
Tracy
