I found this in a press release form Vivendi/Universal:

Major new releases for the remainder of the year include new albums from 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Eminem, Nelly and U2 in addition to Greatest Hits from Jay Z, George Strait and Shania Twain.

I'M SAD, ah well, maybe she'll record another studio album after!

Shania said she was going back into the studio....well a greatest hits album doesnt even requior Shania to do much other then decide which songs go on it so she must be working on her next studio album for the remainder of this year while releasing her greatest hits album!

I don't know but there's a problem here, her Greatest Hits CD should include at least 47 songs from her three Diamond CDs and it should include also her first 10 songs in "Shania Twain", then that'd be 57 songs, and finally 3-4 new songs, then this means, 60-61 songs on it. That'd need at least 4 CDs on it. I'm kidding, but all her songs are like Greatest Hits for me, just my opinion.

If she does that, she'd be reaching Diamond quite soon I think :rolleyes: .

I don't know, Shania DVDs, released by Mercury as much as it connected to execution and bonuses were rather cheap. So I don't build on them on that department anyway.

And they are already released 3 albums this year from new-commers (Currington, Otto, Roberts), and will have one more newcommer (Sugarland) this year. The start new-commers is taking away a lot of money, plus Clarks's new GH album, well, I don't see that will leave much for Shania.

And I think a too special GH can be a bad sign for us too.

Well I am just looking so forward to this CD. I really don't think Shania is leaving us though. I think we'll get at least one more tour, although it may not be for a while, I do think we will. And for everyone that was wondering about Shania putting new songs on a GH CD. Yes that usually does happen, I don't know how many Celine fans we got here. Celine and Shania are the two greatest singers in the world in my book. Anyway, when Celine released her GH CD, "All The Way," she included 7 new songs! Then again, she only included her 9 #1 hits. She could've had a CD of all hits if she wanted to, but I guess she wanted to give her fans something new, and I am sure Shania will too! :)

I mean....if I compare a DVD from Warner (or even Sony Music) with one of Mercury's.....*sigh*

They have almost NO bonus materials, except a little photo gallery and a discography.... not even some basic stuff are included, like subtitles or support for shuffle/repeating chapters....

If I take Live in London (DVD of The Corrs, Warner): it's got an extra performance, a documentary, subtitles, support for shuffle/repeat, sounds at the menu's....heck it even got multiple angel views (this is not necessary)....
Heck, even the Celine DVD's (Sony) got more.... I really don't understand Mercury.....maybe it's a money thing: putting more things on it than the basic stuff is too expensive..... :uhh: Really a shame.... :scowl:

GH cd is good...but the only thing i am kinda dissappointed is why shania (or Mercury) didnt release I aint goin down and Nah? Obviously everybody on here seems to have their favorite song...but you must admit the majority of shania fans think that those 2 songs and Forever and For Always are among the best. Maybe those will be release before the GH is released. In my opinion, I was kinda surprise at some of the releases from the Up cd so far in US. Dont get me wrong, I like SNJAPF and IOHWIB, but not obvious hits compared to Aint Goin Down and Nah. Shania needs to release a new song a VIDEO (not concert clips either) soon....and use the media that she is good at.

Tennis32828 Speak for youself! Everyone has different favorites, mine is "(Wanna get to know you) That Good!" It will NEVER get released as a single but I can listen to it myself on my CD, and there has been rumours about Videos for Nah! and In My Car! here on the forums, so you should be happy with that. It takes a lot of work to make video's, and sinse Shania's touring she can't really do it, so dont just think of youself, because I would love to have a video for (WGTKY) That Good!, but i know it will never happen.

I agreed that WGTKY is one my favorite songs on the album too...but my point was that everybody has their favorite, but there are certain songs on the album that the majority liked. As for making video, who say it was easy? My point was that it might be a good idea for shania to release more video.....by the way, shania was also touring during the COO cd, but she also released new videos about every 3 months.

By the way, i was reading on CMT news that Toby kieth maybe doin a duet on one song for his upcoming cd....I wonder who it might be? Dixie Chicks? just kidding......the only female artist that toby seems to associate with is Shania...so wouldnt that be cool!

And I don't think Shania is going to quit touring anytime soon. She'd probably rather perform for her fans than win an award or something - nothing beats the rush of when you're on stage with the crowd screaming. :) So I bet we're gonna get some more albums and atleast one more tour -- probably more summer tours than anything since Eja will be going to school.

But, by reading the other thread about this - it's gotten me to thinking... Perhaps this "Greatest Hits" album is more Mercury's doing than Shania's. Maybe they brought up the idea to get more money off of her, and she agree to leave us fans with more stuff while she's recording the next record and Mutt's working on other projects. :huh:

Okay, in able for a normal one disc Greatest Hits to work it needs to have some new songs in it. 2 is IMO minimum, 4 would be better. (All we ever want is more :p)
Those songs can be released as singles to give time to make the new studio album and produce the other releases in the meantime (for example UP! video collection, see this thread (http://www.shaniaforums.com/showthread.php?t=30969) for more info on what should and could be released).

Now I don't see much point in making a GH album, as that would be just like putting TWIM & COO to play one after the other. If we think of standard Greatest Hits based on released singles and their chart positions.
There won't be many if any from the first album (there should be, reason later), and not too many from UP! With UP! singles releases, some singles were released in NA and some in other parts of the world, so that alone makes it difficult to choose songs from UP! when thinking of the standard GH song choises. Plus a limited number of UP! songs were actual hits, due to various reasons we have talked in other threads so I won't go into that here.

It is usually said that GH albums are released for casual fans, and some new songs are put in there for the fans who already have all the albums. Well, most casual fans already have COO, so therefore songs from the other albums, including the first album should be included, to let the casual fan who has COO hear other songs too.
There are reasons Shania does not like the first album, but it is nevertheless an album released, and is a very good album IMO.
Also with that mindset, songs from UP! should be included.
The trouble is to fit everything into one disc, and if some number 1 hits would be left out to include some singles/songs that didn't do as good, then that leads to criticism.
Some artists choose songs not based on the standard "how did those songs do on the charts", but they use other points in choosing the songs in a GH album. There are different ways.




Now if we put on The Great Speculation Generator™

What Bon Jovi did, make a LIVE session of their hits and release that, I like that approach.
That takes time however, if it would be done as a new recording (I'd love for it to be an acoustic session Greatest Hits for Shania, but that falls under The Dream Mode™)

Also under that same mode maybe they could use the various live recordings they have (Abbey Road, Hyde Park, Chicago, tour soundboard recordings) to include a bonus disc. Maybe of the songs they won't put on the actual GH.

Now we have moved on to the 2 disc set Dream Mode™

My personal favourite for a second disc on the set to be a DVD of UPClose & Personal. I'd prefer a separate dvd of that, with all the songs recorded then, background footage etc, as a minimum. Again I refer to this Dream Releases thread (http://www.shaniaforums.com/showthread.php?t=30969)

But if that were not to be, I'd like for it to be included as a second disc on the GH album.
It's a new trend to include a dvd as a second disc, and I like that trend :D

Now we have a few choises what could be put on the second disc,
-various selected live songs (although I'd like a separate live album/dvd also)
-dvd of UP! Close & Personal

What else could it be? Remixes, dvd of Hyde Park :D, Abbey Road concert in full, etc?
Some of these I'd like to see as separate releases, some would also work as a second disc.

Surely there will have to be 2 different Greatest Hits made??? one with the European versions of Come On Over songs and Up songs on it for us Europeans and the country versions of the songs from Up and Come On Over for the North Americans, at least The Woman In Me songs will b the same regardless lol :p

This is all going to be very confusing :uhh: , if there is only going to be one version for worldwide release how will they go about picking the songs for it seeing that different songs have been released around the world?

I think this would make a very good Greatest Hits for Shania in Europe (the songs from Come On Over are the international version and the songs from Up are from the red disc as these were the versions released here):

1) Any Man Of Mine - Well obviously this song :p
2) Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under? - Shania's first hit, it has to be here
3) The Woman In Me - the best single from The Woman In Me personally, and a ballad should be included from that album so this is it.
4 +5) You Win My Love/ (If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here!/ No One Need To Know - I think only two of these three country number one songs should be picked as Shania has more hits in Europe from later albums so we need the space I'm afraid. Personally I think the brilliant remixes of You Win My Love and I'm Outta Here! from the version of The Woman In Me released in Europe should be on it.
6) You're Still The One - Shania's first European hit and one of her most well known songs
7) From This Moment On - Another ballad that has to be here, another european hit and my personal fave song of all time.
8) Man! I Feel Like A Woman - another obvious song that will be on it lol.
9) That Dont Impress Me Much - See above lol.
10) Don't Be Stupid (Remix) - This is the single release version which is different to the album version.
11) Up! - Another single in Europe, short and chirpy, it can squeeze in lol.

And I don't think Shania is going to quit touring anytime soon. She'd probably rather perform for her fans than win an award or something - nothing beats the rush of when you're on stage with the crowd screaming. :) So I bet we're gonna get some more albums and atleast one more tour -- probably more summer tours than anything since Eja will be going to school.

Hmm, I think there will be different versions of the Greatest Hits released for North America and then for Europe and other areas. When + Ka-Ching + Thank You Baby might be extras on the European version, while Rock this Country and Honey I'm Home + SJNAPF, IOHWIB (doubt those 2 will be on tho:SNJAPF + IOHWIB), but yeah. She also needs room for new songs. She might just release a DOUBLE CD pack with all singles released EVERYWHERE + 3 or 4 new songs? I'm sure she will release ALL the new songs from the album, and my advice is to release the singles EVERYWHERE at the same time. Just a thought tho.

PS- My radio still plays "WHEN" and always did, and I'm from Canada, I've always heard it, and never knew it wasn't a single in Canada sinse I read a couple threads on here. Weird.

Well so far the promo for October will be access hollywood and promo for December will be VH1 BIG IN 2004...then we can't forget the CMA's in November so hopefully she will do that and get more and more promotion!

I've been thinking the same thing about the independent label. They've got the funds to do it, and that's what a lot of artists do nowadays, and then she can recruit more people for her label. And she'd call it Up! Records

I've heard her say that "In My Car..." and "Nah!" are two of her favourite songs on the CD so I suspect that she will release one of them before or with her greatest hits. And, of course, with 2-3 new tracks and maybe some live performances and remixes, it might even have to be three CD's.
I hope that this greatest hits means the end of her link with Mercury and not the end of her because at least if she goes independant with Mutt, she can spend some money on herself and promotion rather than having her money spent on Mercury's newcomers.
