OMG - that would be great but i dont get holiday
I know what prompted that press release Tracy! I am glad as I am NO USE at trying to keep good news a secret! ;) Two ships are after me now with 3 jobs! Typical they are ganging up to make sure I miss the Fan Convention! But if I do, good news for you as I will be registering and paying for a second conventioneer, a local girl from Timmins and her boyfriend, who helped run the original Eilleen Twain Fan club in Timmins... You have one or two artifacts donated from him, so you can guess who the lucky chap is!
Good luck in Nashville, try tell us all about it if you can. Is this news going to be issued to the Timmins Daily Press? Perhaps it should be posted in the news sections of these message boards sites too? I miss Timmins and I am hopelessly addicted to Ice Hockey and the Stanley cup now, so gotta stay up till 5am local for the final!!!
House is on the Market tommorow, so things are getting crazy soon with me. I will come see you even if I miss the Convention before this year is out!

Thanks Rog, are hotels in Timmins expensive??
Thanks Rog, are hotels in Timmins expensive??
Ah, what's expensive? The place to stay if you are going to the convention is the Days Inn (formerly the Senator). That is where most people going to the fan con are staying. But rooms are filling up now so if you are thinking of going to the convention, book a room now while you still can (if you can) but don't be surprised if all the rooms in a certain category are now gone. That is what some people have been finding. You can always cancel later.
I am paying $89.95 per night for a "suite". I think that rate may be a bit low for what we are getting but I booked a long time ago and did a bit of haggling.

Currently only JD Blair will be attending the Convention. But you never know what other surprises might be in store for those attending.
Tracy's a magician. She's got all kinds of stuff hidden up her sleave.

Yes I have a pretty good idea where that magic is being Aimed right now Ren as Tracy confided in myself and Bob. It will be AWESOME if she pulls this one off! :D

JD is an interesting fellow. I saw his solo performance in Chicago outdoors concert last July. I don't know of any drummers that can do what he can in a solo event. He was a real crowd pleaser. I think I saw what Johnnie Carson considered the best drummer of the era (Buddy Rich or something like that), during one of his nighttime shows a number of years ago. The drummer was clearly good, but probably better in a group than as a solo. JD can do it either way. Not only that, of the 3 CD's by band members, I liked his best. I expected to like Marc Muller's or Brent Barcus' CD's better, but I didn't. The only drawback I can think of about JD is that I have to slow down quite a bit to interpret his written messages. He's almost as bad as the doctors who write prescriptions or who wrote medical opinions in my office before I retired.
During my first of 2 ST concerts, I spent a lot of time watching the band. They were a very entertaining act just by themselves.
During the last of my 2 ST concerts (in Grand Rapids), Shania was on the opposite end of the stage most of the time. JD was on our end all the time and Andy Cichon was on our end most of the time, with Randall Waller and a bit with Marc Muller. So I got to see a lot of JD non-solo during this concert. He's so good, you hardly know he's playing, the drumming is just there, kind of like you'd expect pleasure to be there in heaven. For several songs, I decided to just pick out his part and pay attention to his drumming rhythms. I'm a bit of a clutz at that, but it was a lot of fun, and it definitely had me moving to the music in a new and entertaining way.
Most of the people who've met JD really like him. I believe that'll continue in Timmins at the convention.

The only confirmed guest for the convention is JD Blair. That doesn't mean we won't be getting any other surprises, but as of right now, bring your drumsticks and send in your registration forms.
We want more fans from the FORUMS! Come join us!

I meant to add that I find it intriguing that a drummer can create music, including melodies and chords etc, even more enjoyable to hear, than music by guitarists of the highest caliber, who are also song-writers.
It tells me something about the difference between appearances or initial impressions versus the value and quality within persons.
Small, well mannered people don't impress at first glance. But some of them are power-houses inside.
Not everyone is a genius, waiting to break out or be discovered. But I believe the potential talent within each of us, is vastly greater that what is seen by others. If we learned to respect that in each other, and be a friendly supporter, instead of negating, the future will become a better place, more easily and probably more quickly.

I love drummers.... watching them is really a joy....:)
Their (facial) expressions.... their unique way of drumming.... they fun they're having while drumming; it's just fantastic!
And with all kinds of distraction around them, they're still able concentrate and get everything right! Drummers are really admirable.... And IMO, the drummer is the most essential and important part of a band.... :)
And watching JD is really  Same thing with Caroline Corr.... they're just fantastic drummers! :great:
I really wanted to drum for a long long time....since I was 8 or so, but never got around to it (my dad wanted me to learn the piano first), and still haven't.... :( But that will change in the near future.... definately! :D

Hi captainCorr,
Is there any way to identify a pattern of drumming in a song? If a song is in 4/4 time for example, I'll hear the drummer hitting some beats and leaving others out. That kind of drumming rhythm is so cool, and often contrapuntal to the melody and chords. But after only 2-3 bars, it changes. And I'm always left falling flat on my face to pick it up correctly.

:uhh:
hmm...
Howabout us NOT posting stuff like this..? - if any members of Shania's band want to come to the convention, they might want to do that as private persons - not as their stage persona... also, if they would want to attend & have already discussed this with the STC: I see it as an agreement between them & the STC - either one of these parties should make the announcement... NOT other members of the Forums... so, let's keep the rumour mill rpm down & have some respect towards those who are doing all the hard work with the 2004 Fan Convention strategy..!

I took accordian lessons for a couple semsesters as a kid, then was in required choir for several years in high school.
Don't really have a desire to play an instrument at this stage. But I am poking around the perimeter of writing music. Got a nice keyboard not long ago, with over 600 instruments in it. When I get free of other obligations, will hitch it up to my pc and start fiddling around. In the same way that some one whom you may know, experimented with variations of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, I'm experimenting with other aspects and ideas about the architecture of music, including melody, harmony, rhythm, sound waves, and patterns of many kinds. I love to take a thing apart, understand the pieces and their interrelation, then put 'em back together in various ways, and create new things from what I've learned.
