I can't since I might be in Nashville, Tennessee for school or be working in Illinois or Wisconsin. Next year maybe I'll go depending if I go to school this year.
I'm registered already, Ren, and am twisting a lot of arms to get others to go. I do know some other possible surprises and some of you will really like them!

All the excuses are driving me mad. Just do it!
Find your flights on aircanada.com or on expedia.ca I`m told the rates right now are pretty good.
500$ for airfare is cheap when you consider it costs me 700$ just to fly to Toronto and back!
Just do it!
Come on over!
Book it now!
There`s no time like the present!
Come on over!
Come to Timmins!
The STC awaits! We need people from this board to join us. We have a high showing from another board, but we want you guys here also! Come join Roger and others and have the time of your life.
You will NOT regret it.

Last time I let Shania get in front of my school...I dropped out of 4 year university. So I can't. My life needs to get onto the right track.

I'd really love to come, but it's impossible !
No money...:(:(
Ren, I love your spirit!
Of the 20 people in various Shania boards with whom I am close personal friends, only eight are going for sure. Six are from the fan club and two from the North American board. John, so far you are the only one going for sure from the forums besides me. Can't we do better than that here?
I know all the reasons for not going. Three of my friends have ailing parents. Others have no vacation time from work, or other commitments at that time, or not enough money. But for the rest of you, take a chance! Live dangerously! Or as some one we all know has said:
"Get a life-get a grip
Get away somewhere, take a trip"

I understand perfectly well, why many of our European members have insuperable obstacles in making this trip - you guys showed incredible devotion travelling across the continent to follow Shania to multiple concerts in several countries... and that cost you guys a lot..! - you guys rock..! :]
...Timmins, on the other hand, will be a very different experience: you'll be able to witness some of the elements which have made Shania the way that she is today... the nature of Canada, her home town, the Shania Twain Centre exhibits, her fans... *THIS* is something that will make the Shania experience complete..!
...it's not a show of loyalty - or proving how devoted a fan one is... it's more like seeking for some depth, finding something extra besides the musical side of things - meeting other people from around the world... opening up your heart, and letting them in...
...we do these things a lot & travel to distant destinations, trying to make our holidays a bit more than a week on the beach... and trying our best to destroy those stereotype images in our minds about different cultures - finding out for ourselves, what it's all about...
Go for it - it's worth it...

And You guys, You are just driving me crazy! :funny: :funny:
I mean, sometimes itīs not about resources, itīs not about not having the vacation at the right time.. there might actually be a concurrent obligation somewhere else as a reason for not attending! :smirk:
I, for one, would have been more than seriously coming (and who knows, perhaps ruining the flight of two certain Finns... :p), but sometimes one just canīt do it! I mean, that weekend (and the week before) was booked üp for me already more than a year before the Fan Convention (guess whoīs one of the organisers here... (http://www.isae2004.org/)) . What can one do? :dunno: The Convention dates were announced at March 9th this year (at least thatīs when I heard about the dates). If You then realise You canīt go, You just canīt go! :o Simple as that! :)
This doesnīt mean that Iīm not interested about the Convention or that Iīm not coming to Timmins... Surely, one day Iīll show my face there! :] Maybe later this year... :dunno: ...when the climate is back to a more Finnish-like... ;) :p
I feel Iīve been already punished enough by realising that thereīs no way to do it. Donīt need to be reminded all the time! ;) :funny: :funny: Thatīs why, I just canīt take this anymore! :p But meanwhile, You guys keep rocking! :] And I hope You get lots of other fans hooked! :) At least Youīre all doing Your best! :)
Meh! Iīll go back sulking to Sweden! :funny:
Have a nice Summer You all! :)

...well, somebody's got to take care of the animals - I'm glad it's someone as trustworthy as you are..! :]
 "ruining the flight"..? :really: - ...like how..? :dunno: ...talking about the Kärpät hockey team for 24/7..? :funny:
:) Matti, I know you'll be there one day... I just know it... seems like we Finns don't have a choice on the matter at all..! :funny:

Matti, I apologize. I certainly don't want you to feel bad. Those of us who are trying to get people to go to the convention may go overboard once in a while. I leave it up to Tom in particular to do most of the publicity on the various Shania boards. I am no good at that mushy stuff myself. I have been contacting a lot of people one on one by email about the convention. So I probably get more meaningful feedback than Tom does. And I am only too aware that for many, many people it is just impossible for them to go. People have other obligations for that time period. Some people just don't have the money. Some people don't have the time off work. Some are teenagers who are not in a position to travel alone. A surprising number have to look after ailing family members. So I do understand.
But I also understand that there are a lot of "waverers" out there. People who could go if they really tried. Let's be honest. Timmins is in a remote location and it isn't easy for anyone outside of Timmins to get there. But it is worth the effort.
Some fans are shy and may be afraid that a fan con is a place for noisy extroverts and they wouldn't fit in. Let me say to them that I have been to Timmins twice, once for the STC opening and once to the first fan con. I would say that most of the fans who went there are kinda quiet. Sure, some are pretty outgoing (Shadow Dancer? LOL) but that is good. This is a fan convention not a library study period! It is a good mix of people.
Some young women may feel rather vulnerable going alone to a strange place where their safety may be at risk. All I can say is that is not my experience of Shania fans. Maria, back me up on this. In my experience those of us who are older look out for younger fans so they don't find themselves in compromising situations. I remember at the opening of the STC there was one teenaged girl who had desperately wanted to go but whose parents considered she was too young to go alone (and I agree, she was). So as a treat, her mother went with her to Timmins. After experiencing the Shania fans, the mother later said she would not have any hesitation in letting her daughter go by herself to a similar gathering in the future.
If some of you are worried about drinking and drugs, don't. Yes, we did go to a karaoke bar and drinks were available at other functions but no one got drunk. From what I have seen, Shania fans are often non drinkers (perhaps with Shania as their example). I saw no drugs.
So for those of you who could actually make it to the fan con if you really tried, go ahead! You won't come to any harm. You won't be miserable. You will meet online friends and make new friends. You will have fun and you will always remember it.
Roger

A part of me is worried cuz if I go I will travel alone and that is quite scary, also besides Roger I won't know anyone there, but anyway, Roger definitely took care of me when I went to London and it's very true that the older fans take care of the younger fans, Roger is a great example of that *hug* if I can find a hotel and decent trans I will go :great:

And Chris and Girlfriend will be there, Chris being an active member of the original Eilleen Twain Fan Club and then the Shania Twain Fan club both run from Timmins. He has a detailed knowlege of Shania's homecoming visits to Timmins in 1996 and 1999.
Tom last day in Aberdeenshire!
