Oh Tracy, well done Girl. You have NO IDEA how difficult I found it keeping that news off the net after you confided with Bob and myself in Mid May that you were hopefull that Cory would make it to the Fan Convention!!!

I wanted to tell Grace and Natasha so badly it hurt!!! Grace is going to FREAK out now, must dash across to the Boards as she checks them out every AM before she gets down to work.

ONLY 5 WEEKS to register for the event at http://www.shaniatwaincentre.com :D

Hi Tracy,

Glad things worked out as hoped and planned, since Tom and I visited you, Ren, Deb, Will, the STC and others in Timmins last month.

I should ask Cory on his own website message board if he's going to bring Kevin along. I have the highest regard for Cory, but it's Kevin I've been wanting to meet. He may have some insights on my questions about computers, sound equipment and music; which are beyond the bounds of most discussions about writing music to date.

thanks Tracy for telling us :D

Tracy made the original post in the Timmins Section. I reposted in this news section as I consider this a newsworthy post and want to expose the Timmins Fan Convention to the greatest number of Forum members as possible.

Shania can't be touring every year, the Fan Convention however can grow with our help and support. Many have stated that they can not attend right now. I can understand that, but without a slow but steady growth in numbers attending from around the World this Fan Convention may not survive and leave us with nothing during the lean years.

Those members who can't manage may not read the Timmins section every time they visit, but everyone checks out the news pages. This is a news story - sorry if I upset you reposting it. Believe me with a very slow dial up connection you have no idea how upset I have got waiting an age for some of the so called 'news' stories that I have read on the net.

Hey there Tom ! Thanks for letting me know about Cory being in Timmins next month :D Yup, that sure is cool news isn't it ? One of the best this year, in fact http://www.corychurko.com/coryboard/images/smiles/eusa_dance.gif

Oh yeah, we already knew...... but only with 60% confirmation as things were still being sorted out and discussed in early Jun (around 4 Jun). So it nice to know for sure now 100% that Cory is gonna grace us with his presence in Timmins next month. http://www.corychurko.com/coryboard/images/smiles/headbang.gif

There are still a few things yet to be ironed out, eg the music clinic, but it would be *very* cool if Cory can make it there and give us a little demonstration of his musical talents http://www.corychurko.com/coryboard/images/smiles/eusa_boohoo.gif http://www.corychurko.com/coryboard/images/smiles/icon_kidra.gif

Yes, I have a feeling that despite, or perhaps because of, the music clinic still being ironed out (ie flexibility in matching Cory's resources to attendee interests) it will be something of great value to attendees. And J.D. will probably be involved in something similar, if not the same event => doubly great value.

Yeah me too, I hope there'll be enough interest for JD to hold a music clinic. When he told me about going to Timmins earlier in June, he gave me his business card. And he signed the back too.

When Tracy told Bob and myself at the STC on or about May 20th that JD and Cory had been invited to attend the 2004 Fan Convention we were asked to keep it off the net as nothing had been confirmed, but I was just bursting to tell you Grace as I know how you are with Cory ;)

Well now you will have a chance to meet and maybe dance with him, and the music clinics will be so cool, to actually hear them perform as a solo act will be something, I look forward to very much. The small size of these early fan convention gatherings lends it's self very well to such informal activities and I suspect that JD and Cory will get a big buzz too out of seeing the 'Boss's' home town and how her life was way back when.

There are quite a few Music Bars and Taverns in town too where they can join in the fun on stage and I hope they both have a real blast and stay on for a bit after the official convention has finished to enjoy the local music scene.

But most of all I hope now after all the if's - buts and maybe's I can now attend as well.

I wondered what the card meant where it said Psalm 150, since I am not familiar with such matters. So I looked it up. It is about music in general, specifically musical instruments, including the ones J.D. plays, but as one can expect, within a spiritual context.

Grace, do you know what symbol is to the right of J. D.'s signed initials? Looks like a drummer seat surrounded by drums, cymbols, etc.

It will be interesting to see how these two band members connect with ST fans at the convention. They're both unusually accomodative. Beyond their ability to communicate and relate through music, there seems to be other levels of transference of well being. Not sure if they have a conscious or almost unconscious common denominator for humanity in a different dimension. Cory has a lot of things going for him anyway. But I was almost stunned by J. D.'s solo performance in Chicago outdoors. Then stunned again, when as a drummer, he wrote music in his CD, that I found more enjoyable than the music on the CD's written by Brent Barcus and Marc Muller. Brent and Marc are writers and performers of melodies and harmonies, and well known as top flight musicians.

Cory and J. D. are two amazing people. Convention attendees have a rare privilege to meet them in this setting. Wish I could be there. But not sure it's worth risking death for. Mtn climbing requires disciplined training and preparation. I almost got killed last time. And I was younger then, and not climbing solo like this time.

I hope Timmins gives their usual warmest welcome to these two ST band members. I was looking through Cory's new website yesterday. Among the pictures there, were a couple from when ST and band played in Timmins a few years ago. I have been tempted to tease about the band swiping the flag from atop city hall. But not knowing the circumstances, thought better of it. Turns out in two photos, I now see the fire department and maybe even the police helped the band swipe the flag. So I'm really glad I held my tongue and didn't put my foot in my mouth again and step on people's toes. Marika has already asked me how many people's feet are in my mouth. I'm not sure about the answer, but my dentist and endodentist sure have been drilling a lot of holes in there. So maybe there's room for a few more feet now. I just hope people wipe their feet before coming in. I don't vacuum or dust very often.

Bob your post above blew me away Sir, and funny too! I forgot of course that the Band are old hat visiting Timmins, so they know the lay of the land and I REALY hope they interface big time with the local musical scene and go native so to speak.

Last time though it was Work this time I hope it will be pure fun, I know it will 'cause I know a few of the Shania Fans who are turning up again this year and we know how to kick up some dust, that is a fact.

I would really LOVE it if they both take part in the Shania Trivia Quiz, Oooh Boy would that be FUN - My bet is on FV (Fran) to win this year - she is FAST! My Goal is to score more than ONE point and double my performance from last year...

Thing is Timmins is an event in its own right, just getting out of the mainstream and hanging around with the locals is a tonic in its own right, the added attraction for Shania's Worldwide Fan Base being laid on by the Shania Twain Centre is simply priceless and if you can't manage this year, book for next at http://www.shaniatwaincentre.com

We will all be posting like crazy from Timmins Web every chance we get, but if you can make it and put your life on hold for the 4 days of the events starting on August 5th I can promise you it will be worth it. When over 90% of the first convention members come back again, from all over for a second go, I think someone, someplace is doing something RIGHT!

So you got the news Tom. The die is cast. No more waiting and wondering. You can visit your birth town Montrose and say goodbye to your roots for a couple weeks; with one less uncertainty, and a gleeful eye toward your coming party in Canada. Now we'll know where you'll be and when, even if you can't log on and update us for a couple weeks while you're in transition. But I hope you won't forget to keep an eye out for career opportunities in new as well as old domains; and protect your health. You've already done your tour of duty for this year, with your 3 weeks of discomfort from respiratory & related illness during your recent stay in Timmins.

I'm trying to remember Tracy's Timmins accent. Maybe I've been in Timmins too many times, I no longer notice it. Not sure I ever did. What I did notice and found very pleasing, in my Timmins raised girlfriend, among others since 1978/79, is the uplifting lilt at the end of their sentences. I always thought that was so considerate and polite of them, to pause slightly, to verify their listener was still on track with them, before proceeding. As it turns out, there may be an added reason for that. Many around Timmins speak a different language, either French or indigenous North American. And it may be a cross over effect from the melding of cultures.

Speaking of melding cultures: you mentioned Chris's dancing shoes. Now that's an interesting possibility for hooking up current fanclub members with the original fanclub members. Best wishes on that endeavor. I hope to see reports on the events involving that. This is a separate development from the new fanclub and new messageboard options that you've been discussing with Roger, me, aFinn, and others. Not sure if there's potential to extend the exploration of mutual development from old to new fanclubs and messageboards, beyond that to include the "original" fanclub. I haven't talked with Chris yet, beyond our introduction at timminsweb. And there may be others he knows who have info to offer on useful merging and networking. I wonder what Tracy and Will think about that.

So here I am in Waterloo, a large 99,000 population feeder city to Toronto. I met Derek and Kelly last night at there local East Side Mario's and we hit it off right away and got driven home in the famous UPmobile which of course is going to the convention.

They have a new C & W format Radio Station in town, only been on the Air for about a year or so and they are activly promoting the Fan Convention and give it a mention every DAY! So Kelly and myself are going to hit the station at 7;30am today.

The breakfast host is the best bet to get on air so we have been told and I will be wearing the Kilt and my 2003 Fan Con T Shirt with my STC Lanyard just to leave the receptionist with NO CHOICE but to send us through!

So more great publicity for this years Fan Convention is about to hit the suburbs of Toronto today. I understand my cheque is in the Post Ren and Tracy, that's fine, I will use it to sign up some more Shania fans on my way to Timmins via the Polar Bear Express! Having fun as always, Barbicue is tonight so more Shania fun to come! God Bless Canada :)

Love Tom

Hey Tom, Derek told me he had met you last night, and you and Kelly were planning today's barbecue. Sorry I can't join you. Yeah, that is some radio station, eh? Trust you to turn it to the fan con's advantage! Good luck this morning! But you don't need luck, Tom. You are the STC's best roving publicist!

Um, I'm not sure Waterloo will like being described as a feeder city to Toronto or a suburb of Toronto although there are many who commute to TO now on a daily basis. This is my old neck of the woods, Tom. We like to think the area has its own attractions, besides being within an hour's drive of Hogtown.

Say hi to everyone for me tonight!

Well Kelly and I got the attention of the local morning show DJ Lynda by standing outside the studio window. She spotted the Kilt right away and my 2003 Fan Con T shirt and halyard and we were in the studio before we could blink.

She had asked on Air for a cup of Tim's so we got a cuppa for her and then I was on Air, Kick FM New Country, BIG plug for the convention, mentioned the fact that people are turning up for the first time this
year from England and Finnland. Kept Ren's big supprise off Air air and then it was Kelly's turn on Air and she just charmed everyone to death and I think invited any Shania fans who want to 'come on over' to the Barbicue tonight to phone the station and they would pass on Kelly's phone number!!!!!

Met her mother-in-law and went to her friends Mannite Old Order Farm, took me back to my childhood in Rural NE Scotland before Electricity and TV and all that. The Farm repair show was a step back to the smiddy's of old repairing just about anything from Saddles and Bridles to Shoes, Gloves and Metal items. All the machines were hand powered.

In the framhouse Kitchen a wood burning stove provided heat and cooking, the only concession to the modern times was a propaine Gas lighting system and cooker. No trucks or Cars a horse and buggy. The corn was over my knee in hight and that is good for mid July so I have been told. Then on to the local farmers Mart where I caused quite a stirr with my STC T Shirt and the Kilt. It is amazing how many people from Scotland came up to talk with us.

This is TV internet so excuse the typo's as the screen is fuzzy. Quick swim in the Hotel Pool (Gave them a plug on Cick FM too this AM) and here I am back in my room posting this little UPdate. The UPmobile is looking good and you will all see it at the Fan Convention. Like my Kilt it raises a few eyebrows where ever it is parked.

Tommorow it is either a day and overnight in Toronto proper or a ride on the Polar Bear Express to Cochraine and the Bus into Timmins. I will report back once I am back online.

IS IT AUGUST YET????

heh, Tom... your tireless plugging of the Fan Convention has been a remarkable task, and the way you've brought out the point - by wearing the kilt - shows how there are no borders on Earth to where Shania's fans can be found... you've certainly made lots of Scots and Europeans proud... and that has actually given me an idea... we'll see in Timmins what I've come up with... ;)

Oh you going National on us too John, that would be fun and the media love that sort of stuff of course and we Shania Convention regulars are becoming somewhat skilled in handling the Media I have noticed.

The best promotion the Convention can ever get is by the Fans who attend year on year. I have just come back

The best promotion the Convention can ever get is by the Fans who attend year on year. I have just come back from Kelly and Dereks Barbicue and boy was it ever fun.

Story and picture swapping, great food and then a gaint Shania Video party as we turned there living room into a concert Zone, Shania blasting out of the DVD player through an excellent Hi Fi system as we danced and sang and jigged along.

I have met some more people who are going to the Convention for the first time this year and they are a very talented bunch who are going to be so media friendly. This Convention is gonna be a blast, just 2 weeks to register, get your sKates on for now is the time.

IS IT AUGUST YET?
