Singing sensation Shania Twain has donated the stage she used during her Up Tour to the City of Timmins.
The 78x48 foot stage arrived in Timmins Thursday night all the way from Florida where Shania ended her tour. Covered in purple and white tissue confetti from the Office Depot Centre in Sunrise, it is now stored in a Timmins-owned facility. Maintenance and Parks Operations Manager Norm Beaudry says the stage, along with many other items from the tour arrived in two 45 foot closed-in trailers. Beaudry estimates the value of the stage is around a quarter of a million dollars. "It blows my mind," exclaimed Beaudry. "Shania's also sending up her stage crew to show us how to put it together and take it apart."
Beaudry says the stage itself is welded aluminum. Most of the deck is plexiglass that lights up. Stools used by band members were sent, along with partially used bottles of Windex that were used to clean the stage. Other treasures Beaudry didn't want to reveal were also sent by Shania. The centre portion of the stage will be sent at another time. The centre portion of the stage belonged to another stage company, but Beaudry says Shania is having one manufactured just to send to Timmins so the stage will be complete.
The stage will be on display during the Fan Club Convention which the Shania Twain Centre is hosting in August.

Amazing, I am really - really excited about seeing it UP! close and personal. In Toronto still see the other thread for more.
IS IT AUGUST YET.... I SAID IS IT AUGUST YET!
I hope the centre stage gets there in time for the convention. It should be the most interesting part.

RogerYeah, it was a bit of a twist to the story to hear of this separate centre part. I wonder why the company wanted it back, if it is possible to make a replica anyway :uhh:

Very expensive stage! Shania is very sweet not only to donate the stage, but to get the center piece re-made for her fans.

I just had the chance to visit the secret location of Shania's stage in Timmins. I met with Tracy for lunch. Afterwards, she blindfolded me and drove me over to the secret location somewhere within the city limits. Once I arrived at the location, the blindfold was removed and I had the chance to examine the stage before it is assembled.
Even unassembled, it is massive. It arrived in 2 tractor trailer loads a week and a half ago. EAch stage component is housed on a separate carrying crate on wheels which is then moved into position and assembled.
Also had the chance to meet up with Jack Watson and Norm Beaudry. Norm will be in charge of assembling and disassembling this massive stage. The words that kept coming out of our mouths were "incredible, unbelievable, wow"!
Shania's crew will be UP next week to teach us how to assemble it. Should be interesting. I look forward to showing it to all of you when you are here for the convetion.
All the best and see you all soon.

That is very cool. I wish I really could go now...:(
How long does it take for it to be assembled?

Shania`s crew assembles it in about 3-4 hours. This is stage only and does not include sound and lighting. There are so many pieces that without proper instructions or schematics, no one would be able to figure it out.

hmm...
heh, are we gonna get blindfolded too..? :funny:
...just thought I'd ask..!
John - :p
Just an idea, but would it be possible to get a group photo on the stage of all the conventioners? That would be very cool.

This is stage only and does not include sound and lighting. RenYou'd really be in trouble if the massive lighting rig would be there too

Yes it really was a shame that concert in front of 85,000 standing room only fans was not captured on Video, for in many ways it was a great show with numbers that were later left out of the official UP! Concerts.
I was speaking to a local TV News reporter a few days ago from Timmins and she was prevented from taking Video of the 2000 Shania Timmins concert by the event staff. So no record exists of the Shania Twain homecoming concert in front of 25,000 local fans in Hollinger Park back then.
Just an idea, but would it be possible to get a group photo on the stage of all the conventioners? That would be very cool.
Paul:)
I am pretty sure that will happen Paul so stay tuned to this Timmins Section for once the party starts, we will all be posting like crazy from Timmins Web.
