Did anyone else hear As It Happens on CBC radio this evening? I missed the first couple of minutes but they were describing the upcoming convention. They mentioned that fans were coming from all over, including Scotland and Finland. They mentioned JP Aubé as one of the speakers, although that was not on the agenda I received in the mail this week. They also noted who would not be at the convention - Shania. No direct criticism there but she was presented as being conspicuous by her absence.

If you want to listen to this piece, go to:

http://www.cbc.ca/insite/AS_IT_HAPPENS_TORONTO/2004/7/29.html

Click on Listen to Part 1. Move the cursor to the 25:29 minute mark.

Now I hear it again it sounds pretty sneering in tone.

hmm... she's given us quite enough already - she more than deserves some time off...

...however, I can understand that the media might wonder about what's the point in having a Fan Convention without our Queen present... :uhh:

Well, the media should come and find out for themselves what Shania's fans are made of...

Don't worry Roger, I'm on it! Spoke to Len Gillis, a former CBC News editor with great connections, he is fixing me up with a nationwide interview about the Fan Convention and why we all come every year to Timmins even though we know Shania will not be in town.

I will sort the nation's radio listeners out big time and give the Convention a massive boost at the same time.

I can't think of anyone better suited to communicate the enthusiasm we feel and the fun we have, Tom!

Let us know when this interview will be broadcast.

I don`t understand why the media can sometimes be critical of Shania's absence. Hundreds of fans flock to Star Trek conventions every year and rarely do the key players show up for meet and greets. If they are lucky, they might get to meet Alien #2 in episode 256 or something similar.

It's a fan convention. It's for fans.

Elvis does not turn up at Graceland, the Beatles don't turn up in Liverpool, yet both have expanding numbers attending each year from all over the World.

Something which I am very keen to point out to CBC National Radio when I am interviewed by them later in the Week. We don't need Shania to have fun, look at last year. This year promises to be so much more! Thunder and lightning this PM but Centre still busy. Got news of a new event laid on for the 2004 Convention which I will post under a new thread
