It seems I'm the first except for Tom to post here on the fan con. Kay and I got in after an 8 and a half hour drive yesterday. After settling in, we headed right away to Nikki's bar at Days Inn where we knew Tom would be. here he was holding court with other fancon earlybirds. It was good to meet Benjamin (Shaniaboards) and Tom again. We enjoyed meeting our own John and Jaana, Alan (from the Boards) and Andrea (spicyandrea on the fan club board). We had to leave soon as we were famished and needed to find a restaurant.
On our way back in, we found all the others had left but we met Tracy. She asked us to join her and Sal. Sal was one of Shania's tour carpenters who is here to show them how to set up the stage here. He had lots of interesting tales to tell about the tour.
Then others showed up: Ken (drumroll51 from the fan club board), Brenda (Boards), Chris (cbspock from the Boards), Debbie and Jack (Boards) and Betsy (SAS at the Boards). Again we had to leave the group as I thought I had lost my fanny pack with all my credit cards. Bad moment! Fortunately I found them again back at our room. Kay had sworn I had been wearing the pack when we left.
Anyway, once back in our room we got some wonderful news from our daughter. She got engaged yesterday! Kay literally danced around the room! LOL!
I realized at the end of the evening I had not had my camera with me so from now on it goes with me everywhere.
We met the same group this morning in the hotel lobby. It was good to see Ren again and finally I got to meet Grace Billington. Anyway got lotsa pix this time but I can't post them until we get home in 10 or 11 days from now.
Tom took the group on a walking tour of Timmins with the Timmins press in tow. I skipped that. Been there done that twice before. We went to the STC giftshop before the hordes descend on it.
Fantastic convention news: last year's attendance was 35. As of yesterday morning it was 54 this year! As of last night it was 64!
Official events get underway at 5:30 this evening with a reception for all 17 of last year's conventioneers who came back this year. Then comes registration, native drummers and then a wine and cheese.
May not get back to you again. Hard to find time to get away from activities.
