Welcome to the picture board !!

I started this thread to post some pics that I took during some events of last week in Timmins. It was a BLAST !! Had a really great time !

OK, so let's begin........ btw, I have made the assumption that folks don't mind their pics being on the board (ie Richard, Chris, FV, John, Tom etc)...... but if you DO mind, please let me know and I will dutifully remove them with apologies .......

Day 1 - Thursday, Aug 5

We met at the lobby of the Days Inn and yup, Europe was there......

We also had a tour of the radio station which Dave so kindly obliged us with. We also had our voices recorded for a promotion which they were making for the STC.

Day 2 - Friday, Aug 6

We had a tour of the exhibits in the morning. Sorry, no pics due to copyright ...........

However, we could take pics backstage of some of Shania's wardrobe.

This is the top worn in Chicago. Contrary to popular belief...... that top DOES NOT fit me !! Shania is smaller than I am - slimmer I mean....... and taller ! :eek:

In the afternoon, we had 3 activities to choose from. I went to the Gold Mine Tour.

After lunch, we were taken to Uncle Buck's Trout Pond to catch our dinner for that night :D At the very last moment (literally minutes before the bus was pulling away !!), Chris managed to catch his dinner ! Well done Chris !

After dinner, Tracy gave us our 1st BIG TREAT .......... We were allowed to go see Shania's stage........

This is what reporters have to go thru to get the right picture ! LOLOLOLOL !! To be amidst the spiders, bugs and mosquitoes ! I got bit twice during this shoot.

Later that night, some of us went to karaoke at JJ's. Errrmmm...... Tom..... what's going on here ?? This episode won Tom the "most embarrassing moment of the FanCon" award - LOLOL !!!

This is Elise (Shania look-alike) who fooled Cory and Roddy at a London Ontario concert. :OH Later during the concert, both guys asked to have a picture taken with Elise !

Day 3 - Saturday, Aug 7

Day started with a golf game on the course by the STC. We were paired up and went round the 9 hole course in teams of 2 or 3. Here are some team pictures. Frank and I did not manage to capture everybody I’m afraid as we were running out of time too. Apologies to those whom we missed……..

See if you can spot Cory in a team….. He played very well, although I do not know the score he achieved…… Check out the clear blue sky man !

Teams had to sing a song at this hole. JD was one of the judges…….. Here we have the popular Shadow Dancer doing Man I Feel Like A Woman. JD said this performance was the best and made him laugh out loud (as did others !)……..

You were right (not that I had any doubts whatsoever)..... but the Timmins residents and the convention was a blast ! The only time I have had that much fun was at all the Shania concerts :D

Day 3 - Saturday, Aug 7 ....... continuation.......

After the golf game, we went for lunch at the MacIntyre. I had some stuff to be signed for some European fans - you know who you are (!) and here is proof that Cory actually signed it himself :)

Also, I have to thank Judy (lady in red top approaching the table and talking to me). Judy was in charge of organising and planning the luncheons. She did a marvellous job and truly impressed me. Because I’m a strict vegan, I was expecting plain fruit and veg during mealtimes. I certainly was not expecting a properly cooked vegan dish (which was delicious might I add !).

Before each meal, Judy would show me the list ingredients that went into my meal for approval before serving it. Cory is a vegetarian and Judy ran the list past him too, to get his approval. That was cool !

That evening at the banquet, JD and Cory made their rounds at all the tables, talking, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. They were gracious guests, very pleasant and forthcoming. They genuinely looked like they were having fun with us.

Later that evening, Suzie Q sang Outta Here with the help of Cory and JD doing backup vocals. Some of us also went up on stage to help with the imaginary drums ! Well, clapping hands instead of drums actually…… It was a hoot ! I had never seen JD dance before ! The Groove Regulator CAN groove !

Hey Bob !

You're gonna have trouble finishing the fries coz there weren't any !! What you see on my plate is 100% organic brown rice pasta ! I didn't finish it coz I was "full" (coz of the heat). It was very delicious though. And Cory was telling me to eat UP! As you can see, he finished his pasta and soup !

Btw, other folks did not get pasta.... only Cory, myself and FV (I think).

Thanks for correcting my info, you sweetie! They sure LOOKED like french fries. Well, I'll bet the brown rice pasta was tasty enough that I'd have enjoyed it too. But I wouldn't want to be a burden on Judy. Regular food is just fine with me.

My golfing partners are all from Asia. So we hit the oriental food buffets after our rounds of golf every couple weeks. These doctors sure know where the best and cheapest food is. I was largely ignorant of Chinese and oriental food til we started golfing after I retired last year.

Hey, the weeds are taller since I was there in May. But the red plastic fence and the tower look the same.

Okay, across the main street to the left, that's the central municipal city parking lot. The city buses run from there. Across the side street beyond it, under the Shania sign and a bit to right of it, is a 24 hour Mac's convenience store where Tom and I bought some stuff for a party in May. They also sell the little soft candies (yellow banana, red strawberry and mint green) that Eilleen loved as a kid and on which she stocked up during the high school reunion a few years ago. She actually got them from a corner store near her former home on Montgomery St.

On the same side of the main street (Algonquin), as the camera, now toward the right and down the hill a bit less than a block is the City Police bldg. So this picture must have been taken from near the front of city hall, where Deb Lemaire, Jack Watson, Vic Power etc hold forth. Meanwhile, Tom's former residence above Rosie's Tavern is just a couple doors beyond the police bldg. Very economical rooms up there, if you don't mind getting awakened about 4 in the morning on week days, when sleepy tree planting crews get rousted from their beds.

Day's Inn/former Senator is the tall building down the street a couple blocks, as Grace mentioned. Right across the street from it used to be J P's Lounge, where Shania got her start with Lonshot. Might have been renamed to the Escapade later. That's one of the reasons that name appeared on one of J P's posters signed by Shania & seen elsewhere here.

Seems like I remember J P, as owner of the J P Lounge etc, was competitor of the Senator, right across the the street. Let's see how did that story go? Maybe Roger or some of the others remember. Something about him sending infiltrators over to the bar in the Senator, to act as regular customers, but drop the word that the best band was across the street at J P's place. So he had packed houses, while the Senator's bar attentance dwindled. But eventually, he married the daughter of the owner of the Senator, and has had made sure to have the best bar in town ever since. Or something to that effect.

Up the side street to the left, which is just beyond the city parking lot, but before that row of buildings; if you continue a few doors to the left of the parking lot,and on the near side of that street, is the entrance to the most popular dance hall in town. Shania got a special escort into there one night a few years ago and boogied away for quite a while, Tom tells me. He was in there in May himself and had a good time.

This view is looking west. Algonquin is also Hwy 101 and about 150 miles farther down the road, is Chapleau. In between Timmins and Chapleau are probably more moose than people. I remember Folyet where Frank Roch is from with about 3-4 dozen homes. Also is Ivanhoe Lake, with 2-3 dozen cottages and campgrounds.

Grace! I had no idea you were such a risk taker. You're WAY too chummy with oscar there. He gave most of my group in 2001 the willies! We kept clear. Didn't want to catch any mold into our lungs and get pneumonia etc. Sitting on a couple bags of dynamite, hey? I think I'll leave that one alone.

No, no...... the tubular ones are as what you see on the plate..... normal yellowish / off-white colour. Often they're called Pasta Penne in the UK. They like a tube (with a hole in the middle).

Yes, we also have those spiral green, orange, off-white ones here too. I don't mind them. We also have off-white shell shapes, spirals and the normal long strands of sphagetti :D All these tend to be make from wheat flour. So I stay clear of them.

I only have pasta made out of corn flour or rice flour.

So whatever I eat, Cory can eat :)

Thanks Grace for the Photo's. It was nice to meet everyone behind the scenes and chat, Photo's relive some awesome good times. What fun we had together, I hope you have gone back to London UK with a greater insight into Timmins and how the people here reflect and shaped Eilleen Twain as she grew up in town.

LOL ! Cool ! Well, Cory cleaned his plate UP! :)

Actually, I came in late (just behind Cory) and caught him taking my plate (that was put aside for me). The kitchen staff didn't know that there was a 3rd vegetarian. So anyway, after pretending to look hurt, I let him have my meal and one of the girls went to the back and see if there was any pasta left for me. Mind you, I didn't mind as it was too hot to eat anyway. And as you can see, I didn't finish my meal either (that was when Cory told me to eat UP! ) !! LOL !

We sat together since we were the last ones in (oh what a shame - hee hee !) and we had a nice chat. Cory told me that during his flight from LA to Toronto, he sat next to Anakin !!! But that he was too afraid to speak to him - LOL ! (Anakin is Luke Skywalker in Star Wars). We also talked a little about yoga, since he noticed that I was wearing a yoga t-shirt.

Also met Darth Vader (David Prowse ?) years ago in Liverpool. Very nice man actually. He was sitting next to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy !! And the Chainsaw guy signed my pic with the words "Grace - you're next !" Yikes !!! Didn't sleep for days !

Wow!!! The real Darth Vader is a guy called David Prowse, he's huge!!! He was the green cross code man in the 1970's, doing a TV ad to teach kids how to cross the road. He was Mr Universe (or something like that) and eats about 20 eggs for breakfast.......they didn't tell him that they would use someone else's voice for Darth Vader, but he still did all the speaking at the time, then when he saw the film he realised they replaced him with James Earl Jones' voice so he was a bit miffed. Oh yeah, and back in 1990 (I think), I "bumped" into Dave Prowse again in Blackpool ! We started chatting and he told me where he lives ......... close to where I am (in London) !!! Just a bus ride away, in fact ! But I'm not sure if he's still there.......

Haven't kept in touch........ :(

I loved the first 3 Star Wars films, but not the new ones as much.......I think David Prowse lives in the westcountry now because he was asked to join the board of Exeter City Football Club to raise their profile. They also have Michael Jackson and Uri Geller!!! He's from near there I think.

How are you Grace now you have had time to catch your breath back home? Have you told your workmates about the trip and if so what was the reaction? Have you showed them these photo's?

Next year there will be a lot more travelling from Europe and local interest has really peaked too. Even Will Saari said his wife may register for the whole convention in 2005 as he saw us having so much fun.

I have not been back to the Shania Twain Centre since as every weekend has been taken up so far. This weekend I am going back to Ceder Medows for a special Wild West event, which sounds like fun. WX cool 16 deg and sunny, real bad Thunderstorms last night which blacked out a part of Timmins for around 10 min. and gave some local flooding.

Yup, back at work now..... but unfortunately I can't share any of my Timmins experience with my work colleagues coz none are interested :( They don't like Shania :(

Been real busy since I've been back too.......

Went to see Madonna in concert last night. It was awesome !!! She had great performers on stage with her..... lots of very good dancers, a skateboarding guy, clowns, tap dancer, acrobats etc etc..... what a show !!!

Can you believe that each ticket costs £160 (about $300 USD) retail ??? And people were complaining that Shania's was £50 ! Although the Madonna tix were pricey, it was still a sellout concert........ !! :shocked:

Security was extremely strict about cameras too. I got caught once and got a warning but during the show, I hid behind a couple of gay men and managed to record some movie clips. Lighting was too bad for good pics :rolleyes:

Well, I have another 7 concerts lined UP! hee hee ! That will see me till the end of the year ;)

Oh yes I will do that OK and hope to have a couple of NEW pictures from the STC to share with you all, as believe it or not EVEN more items are on display, some were too late for the Fan Convention so I hope to get permission to share them online soon.

There will also be some discussion about the Tour Bus soon in the Timmins Daily Press which I hope will end up online as well.
