Reviews & pics from the 1st gig of the Borrowed Heaven World Tour in Brighton, UK! :great:
Just got back from a brilliant gig! Sorry, I'm still taking it in, so details will be sketchy.
I have no pics unfortunately, but for me the highlights were WTSGB, Summer Sunshine, Radio, Angel, Goodbye, Breathless and Toss the Feathers.
Andrea said that this was the first time they had performed at Brighton, until the crown put her right! I guess they travel so much, they forget where they've been sometimes. She made a joke about Bright-On??!
Sharon's violin broke early during OWIS so she couldn't complete the solo at the end. She remained professional throughout!
Halfway through the concert, Andrea said she was getting paranoid as she could hear someone laughing at her in the crowd. Jim then started making deep laughing sounds on his mic! Jim was pretty good on the African drum thing, I have to say.
As ever, the Corrs put on an excellent, polished show. I would say they looked a bit tired, maybe from doing the US tour, but still very good. The crowd only started moving about halfway through and it took the encore of Breathless and Toss the Feathers to get the back seats standing. Everyone enjoyed themselves though! A great night.
Mark Joseph, the support act was very good too. He did an acoustic guitair set. Would be great to hear his album with a full band.
The crowd reaction was fantastic everyone was standing from SS onwards, it was same setlist as NA gigs with QOH and no Ruby Tuesday or Hideaway. From SS onwards loadsa ppl including me ran to the front and you could see the band were overwhelmed with the reaction, Andrea commenting "this is a great night" even better than Hammersmith it was great!
Bit of a slip up for Sharon on OWIS her violin messed up before solo so she missed the solo at the end and shrugged her shoulders lol it was great!!
Last songs especially a highlight
Brighton Blues for Sharon as her violin dies and problems with the jlights leave them in the dark
A good concert tonight in Brighton was made more interesting when during the first song Sharons Violin packed in. Desperate attempts to sort it were made as the band continues. The violin was handed back to Sharon just in time but it didnt work so she just stood there laughing as the song finished. The next song started almost immediately, the rest of the band seemingly unaware of what was happening but Sharons blue violin came to the rescue. Later it was switched back for the original one.
During the show the lights also created problems. Several times the band were stood ready to start but were left in darkness. Andrea joked that if they could put the lights on she would be able to see the set list and know what the next number was.
Runaway was funny. The crowd struggled to sing it! Andrea was crearly frustrated and told them politely that they were doing very badly. It was one of the worst attempts by the crowd I have heard during the tour!
Finally Andrea was inroducing Stars Go Blue I think and saying it was written by Ryan Adams. There were a few laughs because in Toronto the crowd got confused and thought she said Bryan Adams. Andrea asked if she was imagining people laughing so Im then starts going "ha ha ha ha ha" isn a deep voice. It was so funnly.
Anyhow a verdict on the show. Great but needed more crowd participation to get the atmosphere going. Miss Carolines volacs on the harmony's and her input on FNF, Toss the Feathers and Joy of Life is missed though the band do a really good job in trying to bridge the gap.
Well done to the band. I had a great night in the front row. I put my thumbs up at the end and Andrea mouthed "Thank You"
Cant wait until my nextt show in Brussells - standing so should have what thsi show lacked. Atmosphere!
What a slow start!!!!!!!!!
The band put their all into it, and well, frankly the front row go into it and stood up and about 10/12 other people. And I know that they're fans so you dont count ;)
So without the Corrboards I think it might well have been a slow night all round. BUT we did end on such a tremendous high I dont think it mattered in the end.
As usual, a high quality set all round but I do have to make a point of praising the awesome, AWESOME Anto Drennan yet again. Simply stunning.
Albeit a few technical snags with lights, violins, guitars and I think a slightly wonky sounding piano everything was just superb. I think Jim laughing his "ho ho ho" made up for it. :D @ Jim.
No photos, went to make the most of it this time, but if anyone wants some hosting etc just drop me an email. Esp if the chap sitting next to me (Row A, seat 41) who had the "Give us a wave" banner - and incidently, got a wave from Andrea and Jim - is reading this, I'd love to see your pics.
In all, fantastic night had by all, and Andrea handles hecklers like a pro :))
Setlist is the same as in the summer tour btw.... except that Queen of Hollywood has permanently replaced Ruby Tuesday and Hideway has been dropped....:(
