With just a week to go before Shania Twain’s visit to Timmins, Tracy Hautanen’s biggest worry is over something she has no control over.

“I just want Mother Nature to co-operate,” the customer service manager of the Shania Twain Centre said.

Hautanen said many of the activities scheduled to take place at the centre on Nov. 2 are going to be held outside.

Hautanen said the centre is hoping to keep crowds assembled outside the centre upbeat until Twain’s arrival later in the morning.

“We’re having live entertainment throughout the day and a party in the parking lot,” she said.

“We’re also going to set up tents for shelters.”

Though Twain isn’t expected to arrive until late morning, Hautanen said the centre would be open at its usual time for the fans.

“We’re going to be here from 9 a.m. until as long as it takes.”

Organizers at the centre have been working around the clock to get ready for Twain’s visit, and Hautanen said the plans are well on schedule.

While the specifics of Twain’s homecoming visit have been arranged by Twain’s management team and Universal Music, Hautanen said she’s responsible for details such as arranging shuttle buses to and from the centre.

“We’re obviously not going to be able to have parking here,” she said.

Dave Roberts, president of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, said his organization is encouraging local businesses to show their support for Twain by putting up welcome signs throughout the city.

”It shows community pride,” he said.

“The last time Shania came to Timmins, she said she really liked it when businesses showed their support,” Roberts said.

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce was also hoping to generate additional business with the signage, Roberts said.

Darlene Kenny, manager of the Comfort Inn on Algonquin Boulevard, said the hotel has already received a few reservations prior to the visit.

“We’ll most likely see more closer to the actual day,” Kenny said.

Residents of Timmins can expect a media frenzy to accompany Twain’s visit to her hometown.

CTV crews, filming a one-hour special, will be following her all day. Other national newswires, major broadcasters and newspapers are also expected to attend.

Twain is expected to be at the centre from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. For the first three hours, she will tour the building.

In the afternoon, a public welcoming ceremony and the official opening of the centre will be held outside in the parking lot.

Afterwards, 150 fans will have a chance to meet Twain for an autograph.

Details on how to get wristbands to meet Twain in person have not yet been released.
