As Winter sets it's icy grip on the City of Timmins, the Northern Folk who live here take great civic pride in making EVERY street in this far northern Town an adventure and a feast for your eyes.

From the Town that calls it's self a City and the City with a heart of Gold.... Merry Christmas fellow Shania fans from Eilleen's home town.

Modest Wooden houses, very similar to that Shania grew up in on Bannerman in Timmins often have some of the prettiest displays, but some of the more modern brick houses are themself a picture, and that is before you hang the Christmas lights on them....

Oh you are all most welcome. The thing is that even the smaller houses, the 90 plus year old wooden homes, this one very similar to Eilleen's first Timmins home in Bannerman are so proud to hang out the Christmas lights and often outshine the bigger brick buildings in the up market areas....

Does this melt your heart or what....?

Not to diminish Timmins' efforts in any way, Christmas lights are a big tradition in all Canadian cities. Ottawa's are world famous. It helps of course that the National Capital Commission is paying for our public lights. When the designers of Euro Disney were looking for the world's best lighting experts, they hired Ottawa's to set up their lights.

True but you could not diminish Timmins efforts in any way Roger, as these lights are NOT laid on by the City. Though Timmins is a BLUE COLLAR town and many are poor by state capital standards the lights I have shown are located in the gardens of private houses and paid for by the owners out of there own pocket...

Now that is a heartwarming tale is it not... The City of Timmins lights sadly are so modest as to not get a showing on this thread, though I will take a few pictures of down town over the weekend if we get some decent snow fall. I know you all want to see what the STC looks like so standby....

Well I have the travel experience, but nah.... Eilleen and Mutt deserve there Christmas privicy and if Scotland is anything to go by, in Rural Areas we just do not have outside displays as no one ever comes near your house as you are so far away from the nearest town or village.

I do hope however that Eilleen or Mutt see these pages as I know that will have a big impact on there Christmas seeing the lights of Timmins from afar. I am sure Mutt has visited the area, but not in a long while so this is for them too from all Shania fans.

Tom, I really didn't want to make Timmins' Christmas lights seem poor. I just wanted to point out that Christmas lights on private houses are a strong tradition all over Canada.

This hard bitten town with a heart of gold is the crucible in which Shania's personality was formed. I get nostalgic for the STC when I see it decked out with Christmas trees. This is a home for Shania's fans. Thank you, Tom, for transmitting through your photos what it feels like to be in Timmins and at the Centre at this time of year.

Thank you for sharing these pictures, :) I like to see people decorate for Christmas, and I agree with you Tom, that seeing people decorate out of their own pocket is much more fulfilling to me then seeing city paid decorations. Though the city has pretty lights too. ;)

Cool I was not aware of that tradition, it is not as strong in the UK that is for sure. Yes I promised that each year I would post Christmas theme pictures of Shania's home town. Who knows, she or her family may well see them and they will get all misty eyed too.

The Shania Twain Centre is just looking perfect right now. They had a Christmas Carol service tonight hence the stage and the seating, but I could not go for transport reasons, could of got a Taxi but knowing me that would of led to a night out on the town and I want to stay into tonight and try master the software on my new PC.

I still have a photo of the Transit Bus and the food bank collection in the City Centre Car Park to take and post, that is my mission for tommorow, then it is up to all the other people in Timmins who read this site to to there own thing, and of course anywhere else in the world, why not post your Christmas Picture here to and share with the World.

Thank you for saying that. I will post some more once we get some good snow and a nice hard frost, but only -16 deg C overnight with a high of -12 deg C tommorow and that is just not cold enough for the trees to look pretty as yet.

We could do with a few feet of snow, then you will see Timmins as you may never have seen it before.

I will post this one as a reminder of just how much fun we had at this years (2204) Fan Convention. This award came about as a result of Chris (timmins4ever) and Tracy the Customer Service Manager - now rightly famous as the next Mayor of Timmins :)

They between them kept me out of the loop and in the dark and fed me the same sort of stuff mushrooms get.... ;)

Then there was the trying to shut Richard down on Fan Con 1 with my now no loger working remote control (Richard has messed up our back projector and was doing crazy shadow dancing stuff which I did not understand)

So I got the Golden Remote award and the "Nailed to the floor award" at Fan Con number 2. A picture of Chris and I and the actual event is at http://www.shaniatwaincentre.com (http://www.shaniatwaincentre.com/) but for all who love a good photo and a laugh this is it.... This is what greets you under my bed every night..... Chris has a nice finger or is that his thumb.... Answers please on a postcard to PO box 99 Timmins ON.

I thank you.

OK Gang this is the last of the Merry Christmas pictures and greetings from Timmins. Now Timmins is a Working town, most here have more than one job and it is not unusal to find someone serving you in one place in the Morning and someplace else in the evening. Having said all that I managed to get them all to stand still long enough to pass on there Christmas greeting to you all and some nice pictures to round off this thread, so enjoy as I take you on a whirlwind tour of some of the Bars and Taverns of Downtown Timmins:

Sorry Nikki, but your photo did not work out but everyone who has stayed in the Days Inn will know this little corner of heaven!
