Well, growing up mostly with the milk cows left me lonely as a kid. But the underdeveloped social skills makes me a wonderful wet blanket to put the damper on any lively social activity.

C'mon you people! 58 reads and only 13 revelations? Oh! Maybe that's okay, 'cause many came back more than once, to see about later member info.

You know, if we put the subject clearly in our posts, they probably would get a lot more attention. I flubbed mine too. "Bridging Shania's past and future music." Now what's that got to do with anything of interest? Got all of 2 responses, and one was my own!

Maybe it would be helpful to have someone go thru these posts, and develop a clear subject index and post that as index to main topics. I bet a topic on age and gender of forum members would be a hit. It helps to know who you're sharing your thoughts with.

Do you have any general news about her family that would not constitute an invasion of privacy?

For example, I was interested that Shania was busy getting her place ready for a visit by her sisters at a previous Christmas in Switzerland. She planned to have a lot of fun cooking up a storm with them.

Cooking is something that is fun if you know what you're doing. As my work hours have grown, my cooking skills have rusted.

I'm guessing Shania's family doesn't want to get overexposed to the fame and publicity that their sister has generated.

What kind of music are you hoping to get into?

I just came back from Wisconsin to Michigan on the 400 foot long, converted railroad car ferry Badger. They provide entertainment there, including live singing - between chores passing out stateroom keys, driving cars on & off the boat at the docks, and myriad other chores. The music is varied. But they always seem to hire one or more crew members with good voices to entertain during part of each 4 hr sailing trip across Lake Michigan. It's a place where some singers can get paid for a not too difficult start.

it was this past christmas, they didnt buy the house in switzerland until this past year-they sold the other house in new york.

they moved to switzerland probably for many reasons, income taxes mostly, everyone owns a machine gun in switerland and it has the lowest crime rate in the world, and the countryside around her house is beautiful. i saw her house before she moved there. i would say the area around geneva is about the best place there is to live-and one of my favorite places to visit.

she did fly in her brothers and sisters for last christmas and, yes, she loves to cook.

Thanks for the news. Hey, you've really added some interesting stuff here lately. That info about why Shania is still country is the most authentic stuff I've seen for quite a long time. I never even thought about whether you can understand the words when hearing the song, or whether the lyrics hold certain themes when read without the music. Then the info about the move to Switzerland etc. Very interesting. Thank you.

As for Switzerland, my great grandparents (Kaspar Amman and Kunigunda Angst) came from there in the 1860's or so and were the 3rd family to settle in the wilderness of Maple Grove south of Saginaw Michigan, where I was born. (I'm editor and co-author of a 300 page family history book on the shelves at State Library of Michigan.) I was in Switzerland on leave from my military base in Germany in 1967/8. Lovely trip. However my trip thru one of their highest mountain passes was a little more exciting than I bargained for.

As our American Express bus tour made it's way thru a short tunnel, we went around a blind turn. Rules of the road required vehicles to toot their horn before they came around the bend. My upward bound bus and a big truck downward bound, both tooted their horns at same time and thought the path was clear. We were half way around the corner when we saw the truck barrelling at us at a good speed. Happened too fast for either vehicle to stop. Truck barrelled into the inside of the bus, picked us all up and threw us into the opposite wall of the tunnel. Busted out the front glass of the bus. Driver was incapacitated. Tour guide was hanging out the broken window, unresponsive. Rest of us shaken up and stunned. Bus started rolling backwards, down the road out of the tunnel, gathering speed, with no driver and no one in control.

Outside of the tunnel, there was a sharp turn on the cliff side, with nothing but clouds below. The road had a low stone and cement rail about 2 feet high. The bus would flip right over that at any speed over about 10 miles per hour, and we were sure to be going faster than that when we got there.

Well, I've never been the emotional type in an emergency. Growing up on the farm, I had multiple emergencies where fast action, not panic, was the only way to avoid serious injury or death. So I reacted with ice cold nerves before anyone else, and started for the front of the bus to get out the door, get some rock or wood blocking to stop the wheels of the bus. It was still going very slowly at the time I started this, so it was still a feasible plan. When I got to the front of the bus a really bizarre thing happened. The tour guide regained consciousness just then, pulled himself out of the busted window, and in preprogrammed but semi-delusional manner, yelled as loud as he could "STAY CALM! EVERYBODY SIT DOWN AND STAY CALM!!" He was not awake enough to realize the bus was rolling toward impending peril. He blocked my path out of the door. For a second, it looked like I was gonna have to use my army combat training to get physical control of his body and get past, maybe even throw him out the window if needed.

Fortunately, the truck had bounced off the side of the bus and slithered and screeched past us and was downhill from us a short ways, not far below on the road. Truck driver was not hurt. When he caught on that the bus was for some reason out of control, he backed up and made contact, slowly bringing us to a halt. Whew!!!

I still have pictures of that bus above the clouds, in the mist, with it's large glass bubble shaped front window smashed to smitherines.

bout soccer..i have played soccer for 15 years now i got hurt permantly and i had to quit..so i desided to see if i could coach it..and i got the job andi wouldnt give it up for da world..unless i became a singer...i dont know yet its hard cause i love soccer with all my heart but singin is my passion...so i think im gonna go to collage this year and major in music sooo wish me luck...goodnight peeps

Well, I'm kind of an old codger now, sort of at the opposite end of the life spectrum from you; but still, yes, I think I have an idea what you mean about just wanting to make music. You might want to read my post in the open forum thread by Justin, where I described the experience of getting caught up in a temporary barbershop quartet on my way to be drafted into the army back in the 1960's. You know, until I write about memories like that, I always considered myself mostly a nonmusical person. Certainly I feel like I know a lot less about music than most members here.

And as for your music preferences, they're some of my favorites too. About 15 yrs ago, I decided to change to job-sharing where I and my partner work alternate weeks, covering the same position. I needed to cut down my expenses. So I took in a roommate in my condo. He was a lot younger than me, but had terrific references, working as aide to state senator. At his urging, I got cable TV and for the first time, I saw MTV. Some of it was really good. I taped a couple dozen of my favorites. Later my roommate got married and moved out, so I stopped the cable & moved into a less expensive cooperative townhouse. One of my favorite MTV clips is of Billy Joel and his "Keeping The Faith" song.

Now let's see, if Billy Joel could sing a hit tune while dancing on the judge's courtroom podium, and if Gene Autry could sing "Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer" while riding a horse, isn't it only logical that the next great hit will come from an 19 yr old, singing her hit song while coaching soccer?
