Bonn Concert..

WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!! :D:D:D:D

It was FANTASTIC!! :cool: The atmostphere was just excellent....

Some highlights:

-I got a thumbs-up from Caroline (because of my banner)
-Andrea actually saw it first and laughed
-Got to SEE them do the soundcheck for more than an hour!
-I kinda started the 'Caroline! Caroline!' yelling
-I got to meet Keith, Anto & Jason and got their autographs (I missed Kieran, while talking with Jason)
-And again: the atmosphere was fantastic!!

It was really a shame Borrowed Heaven and especially Long Night were dropped though....:( Those songs really should've belonged in the setlist..

Caroline was looking SO radiant....amazing! :love:
Also cute: at one point during the drum duel in Toss The Feathers, she danced a bit (with the drumsticks in her hand)! :love:

Wow….where to begin!

Let me start by saying I first had no plans at all to go to Bonn…. When the Bonn date was announced I waited a little while for a date in Holland. When after quite some time, nothing new was announced, I gave up hope. At that time I thought I couldn’t go to Bonn, because it was too far, I wanted to save, and it would be in my exam-period.
So, fast forward to June 24th. The Corrs were performing acoustic at a special show in Paris, where they performed 4 new songs. After I first heard them, I was sold (yet again)! I was in doubt whether to go to Bonn or not. After returning from work Saturday, a fan by chance offered a ticket to Bonn. I didn’t need that much time to think about it and I did it. Especially since I found out that I didn’t have any exam on Wednesday. There was only 1 problem though: transport to Bonn. Luckily a very nice fan (Terry) offered me a ride and I gladly accepted it. I couldn’t believe it: I was actually going to Bonn and see The Corrs again!

So....June 29th was there and we arrived at about 12.30 (pm), coincidentally which 2 other Dutch fans. A small crowd was already there and we joined the queue in the very hot sun. While waiting more and more people joined the queue, but it seemed that more people were joining the queue in front of us, instead of at the back.. So somewhere in the afternoon, drumming etc. could be heard and the technicians were setting up everything. At one point we heard Andrea sing ‘My Lagan Love’. Or....we thought it was Andrea! It appeared that it was just a tape or something, since they hadn’t even arrived yet, till around 4 PM. Some time before that I went to the restroom, but I noticed that you could also watch the stage from inside, but there was no Corrs (yet). So sometime after 4, Terry went to the restroom and a few mins later he called us and told us they were there! So myself & Edwin rushed inside and yep: they were there! At first we were able to stand by the door. We could see everything! Everyone was there, except for Caroline....even Gerry! So they rehearsed some old & new songs and it was like watching a free show, hehe.. Sharon wore a beautiful white dress and Andrea a very nice green skirt. Sometime later, when the band were rehearsing ‘Only When I Sleep’, Caroline arrived! Also wearing a beautiful white dress (probably the same one as Sharon). She looked SO stunning! Normally we see a Caro in jeans or something, but that dress made her even more beautiful! She took her spot (which was not behind the drums unfortunately) and joined the band. Later she & Sharon performed a bit of ‘No Frontiers’ and she & Jason rehearsed the drum duel in ‘Toss The Feathers’. It was already 5.45, so we decided to return back to the queue, where Marileen & her husband (the other 2 Dutchies) were waiting with our stuff (big thank you!). But when we got back, everyone was standing and when we found them, we could barely return to our spots. The worse thing was: a lot of people who were standing way back (when we left) were suddenly standing in front of us! I found it quite unfair & appalling, but oh well....there was nothing we could do.

So the doors opened just after 6PM and it was like hell. Everyone was really really pushing and it wasn’t quite ‘soft’. Also a lot of people were line-cutting, which made it even worse. We barely got inside and when we did, we started running to the stage like mad. Marileen was already waiting for us, just before Jim’s spot. So we got some good spots (3rd/4th row). Although....Caroline’s face would be hidden behind her right cymbal most of the gig..
Around 7 all the instruments etc. were set-up and we didn’t really expect a support act (since only The Corrs’ instruments were on stage), until a few roadies but some guitars front center on the stage. Just after 7 a young German artist & her guitar player entered the stage. She sang in German, but I still thought it was better than Myslovitz..(sorry!) She told us that she didn’t know she was going to perform there & supporting The Corrs till the previous day! Due to circumstances her band couldn’t make it, so it was only her & her guitar player.

At about 8.15 The Corrs finally took the stage and started playing ‘Only When I Sleep’ right away (no intro). The atmosphere was electric! And it became better by the minute. ‘Dreams’ followed and then ‘Angel’....in which everyone was jumping, clapping and singing. It was just fantastic! During ‘WCID’, Andrea forget the words (2nd verse) and again did a very nice improvisation! lol The crowd kept singing, while Andy was dancing. After ‘FNF’ (I think) Andrea did her little speech and told us they were thrilled to be back again in Bonn! ‘Runaway’ followed and it was just magical. Everyone waving with their hands and singing as loud as they could. After Runaway, they performed the 1st new song of the new album, which btw replaced ‘Trout In The Bath’/’Return From Fingal’.. it was ‘Old Hag You Killed Me’. Before that song, Caroline came to the front to play the bodhran. And before they started playing everyone was clapping and whistling and some people were yelling ‘Caroliiiiine!’ (so did I) and some people continued yelling her name, which resulted that everyone was yelling ‘Caroline! Caroline!’ at some point. Andrea laughed (and wanted to start the song, but couldn’t) and Caroline just blushed and was looking very radiant and thanked the audience. She really deserved it! I also held up my sign, but Caroline didn’t see it.. but Andrea did! She laughed and tried to get Caroline’s attention, but she was just distracted and didn’t see it. So they performed ‘Old Hag’ and ‘My Lagan Love’ followed. The crowd’s response was really great. It was weird hearing those new songs live for the first time (and not able to sing along with every line)! During one these songs, Andrea also put her beautiful glittery shoes off and performed barefoot again! haha
After ‘MLL’, they were waiting for some people to set up Sharon’s chair and everything for No Frontiers. And during the wait, I again held up by sign as high as possible, which was saying “WELCOME BACK mommy CAROLINE”.. This time Caroline did see it, and after reading it she laughed, looked at me and gave me a ‘thumbs-up’..I was on cloud #9! After No Frontiers, both Caroline & Sharon left the stage. Jim was already playing the intro to ‘Heart Like A Wheel’ and Andy wasn’t on stage yet! Suddenly she came running to the front and gave Jim a bit of mad/weird, but funny look. I really liked that switch.. first it was basically only Caroline & Sharon (NF), and after that only Andrea & Jim (HLAW). When the song was over, Andrea was looking quite surprised at Jim.. Probably because a lot of fans sang along with the new song and because the audience seemed to love it! So the show continued with ‘Queen of Hollywood’, which was followed by the last new song, ‘Black Is The Colour’ (Andy said it was “from ‘Home’” btw). ‘Radio’ & ‘Summer Shine’ were next and those 2 songs really rocked the place! During ‘SS’, Hans finally threw his feather boa on stage.. I believe it first landed on the head of cameraman and Andy had a big laugh. After that it was time for ‘So Young’. Andy put Lisa & Alisha’s hat on and it suited her quite well! haha During ‘SY’ there was a lot of confetti-throwing which made the gig look like a big party even more! ‘I Never Loved You Anyway’ was next.. During the song, Jim picked up Hans’ boa and put it on! Unfortunately, this time there was no band intro (with the music, like on the ‘BH tour’) at the end of the song, but it was just like on the ‘IB Tour’. ‘Goodbye’ was next, in which Andrea gave a beautiful yet very emotional performance. At the end of the song, when Jim moved to the back to play the piano he had a bit of trouble removing the boa, but he managed to do it.. haha

After the song, the band was off the stage and the audience was clapping, whistling, yelling and a few mins later the band returned to the stage. When they did, we could see Gerry standing behind the curtains! Just before starting ‘Breathless’, Andrea did her usual gasping again, only the band didn’t start playing yet, after which Andrea gave us a very funny look! haha She did it again and the song started.. the song almost blew the roof off! After it, the band again disappeared from stage. Roadies were putting Caroline’s Lambeg drum on stage and a few moments later the band was back again. The ended the night magnificent with ‘Toss The Feathers’ and said farewell to the audience. But the crowd was hoping for another encore, just like last year, so everyone kept yelling “we want more!”, but alas.... it was really the end. All in all the gig was just fantastic and the atmosphere was electric! The Corrs’ really seemed to enjoy themselves.. maybe even more than we did!

After the show, we went to the back and waited for the band (in the rain) for a little while. At one point Keith & Anto were coming out and waited (with an umbrella) at the exit. A few moments later they got in the car and were very kind enough to sign some stuff. I managed to talk a bit with Keith and asked him about the orchestra thingy and he said it’s being worked on but it was really still a ‘secret’, after which he & Anto laughed. He told me he heard the album and it was just fab! I also told him they should really come back to Holland when touring for the new album and he said he really wants to (especially to go to Amsterdam! hehe).. Managed to give them (& for the Corrs) a small gift which Keith really appreciated. They were so kind! Someone asked him if the Corrs were still inside, but he told us they already left very quick after the gig, but that they (band) hanged around to.. (I completed his sentence)..drink! haha “It’s common knowledge”, I said..;-) Then I asked if Jason & Kieran also left but he said they were coming in a few secs. Managed to talk a bit with Jason and get his autograph, but unfortunately Kieran slipped by and got into the car while I was busy with Jason..lol When they left we left too, ‘coz I believed Keith when he told us they were gone already....

All in all it was just fantastic, and I don’t have any regrets at all! Normally I always have a post-concert depression, because you’ve been looking forward to it for months, and within 2 hours it’s over. But this time I just decided to go to the gig a few days before the show, so thankfully I’m not that down this time.... it was really one of the best days of my life! :)
