Why cannot words have all caps? I posted a thread with all caps and it posted in lower case instead except for the first letter.

I THINK YOU CAN'T POST IN ALL CAPITALS BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE YOU'RE YELLING...
HOWEVER IF YOU POST AT LEAST ONE LETTER OR WORD ANYWHERE IN THE SENTENCE IN small LETTERS, ALL THE CAPITAL LETTERS WILL SHOW UP :p

vBulletin has an automated shouting prevention. It is considered rude and shouting to post in all capital letters, therefore this feature was made.
I wouldn't encourage to go around that prevention.

Most of the time I only use caps if I'm excited or really happy about something :p

Yeah I have used it before when I'm mad, but as I said, I mainly use it when I'm happy or excited :)

...it's a common understanding ever since the introduction of email & the Internet... ;)

Also, it adds some EMPHASIS on certain words, like raising your voice levels a bit... italicization and/or use of bold lettering are more polite ways - but also can be taken the wrong way on occasion, that's why we also use the smilies: :D - since we can't always guess what the writer's mood might be with 100% accuracy... :huh:
