South Bend, IN - A local effort to raise breast cancer awareness has gained a lot of support.
All month long, radio station U93 (92.9 FM) has been collecting bras from listeners during breast cancer awareness month.
The money raised will all stay in the local community to help with prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
The bras were strung together Thursday night outside the Morris Performing Arts Center in downtown South Bend.
Kim Zobrosky, herself a breast cancer survivor, says of the display, “It's pretty powerful. It symbolizes togetherness, unity and the biggest thing is awareness. We want women to be aware of their bodies, do self-breast checks and get mammograms.”
Thousands of bras were collected. For each bra, a donation was made to River Bend Cancer Services.
U93's Bras Around The Bend wraps up Saturday at the Women's Expo at the Century Center.
