I´ve seen them live, :D It was in 1992 at Skogsvallen, Östervåla, (Sweden) and it was an outdoor gig and the Danish band DAD (Disneyland After Dark) was opening act. :]

Note: Skogsvallen are just a small "Folkpark" in the countyside that mostly host the small local weekly dance events, so this was a BIG happening, lol.
They placed the stage in the football field since the regular stage was too small :p

They are one of those "cult bands" that you just have to like :p

Anyone like or been to see Status Quo?

http://www.mk-rocks.de/statusquo/gallerie/2/15/quo015.jpg

I went to see them tonight, really good! People laugh because their songs sound the same and they are kind of, well, old. I'm telling you, they are good......

Didn't take any pics, a good idea, I think my camera would have been smashed to pieces! It was in a small theatre, and amazingly we were able to walk in right up to the front, so we were about 5 or 6 rows back. After the support band it suddenly filled up - the crowd were VERY roudy, obviously had been drinking a lot, I thought there was going to be trouble at one point. There was an oldish granny in front of us and the drunks were laughing saying "when this all kicks off she's in trouble" . Well, as it happened, she was still rocking away right to the end and the drunks were the ones who couldn't handle it, they were exhausted by the end, it was hilarious! :funny:

Anyway, they did most of their hits, good old fashioned rock n' roll! They opened Live Aid back in 1985, and did their hits such as "Rockin All Over The World", everyone went mad! Probably the most lively crowd I've ever been in, right in the middle of it. Comparing it with Shania's crowd who sit on seats and complain when you stand up, they would have heart attacks if they saw this. Shania really should have standing on the floor, the atmosphere is incredible. Anyway, with it being a small venue it was like a party, everyone had a great time, a great view and it was just great!

Not sure how to describe them, I'll do a ratings type thing! Out of 10

Songs - 8
Ability live - 8
Atmosphere - 9
Looks - 1 :funny:
Noise level - 9, I'm deaf
Knowing all the songs - 6
Lighting - 8
Humour - 7
Crowd - 7
Rockability - 9

Total Paul rating - 72%

Im seeing them again in December Paul, I CANNOT wait!
When I see them at the Apollo in Manchester its seated but the minute Caroline starts everyone is up and no one sits down till the end. I love all the older guys with the blow up guitars and the big wigs dancing, its so funny.
I'm gonna take my camera this time as I'm near the front, I'll try and get some good pics. I'll give a little review of my own after the gig :p

Wow cool, I was impressed last night, I might try and get tickets for the Sheffield concert, although that will be very different, its a huge arena. I really liked it being in a small theatre, its so different from the huge stadiums and open air concerts, more intimate. At the Queen concert in Hyde Park I couldn't see a thing, and that was near the front. Here you were right in front of them. Awesome!

Let me know how the Manchester show goes.....if its anything like last night you'll have a great time. :D

I'm sure I will have a great time :D
I just hope Francis doesn't get ill this time, they had to postpone the show a month last year :(
Did Francis sing a lot? Because last year Rick did most of the songs.

Paul
11-06-2005, 4:25pm
Yes, he did most of the singing. I was pretty shocked how good a guitar player he is, they are always been ridiculed for being not so good technically, I thought he was really good. Rick was great too.

matty
11-06-2005, 4:34pm
Rick's an animal on guitar. I saw his guitar set up on a Day in the life of Status Quo. He has the thickets strings and has to have his plectrums drilled so they don't slip out of his fingers  he plays that hard. Did you know Francis's green guitar is painted in fence paint? Him and his Dad did it in the 70's.

Paul
11-06-2005, 4:45pm
I didnt know.....I watched the Live Aid performance this afternoon and I noticed they played the same guitars. The bass player has a mad guitar, it lights up red and green......

I was reading some sleeve notes on the Quo, I didn't know some things.......

They have travelled 4 million miles
They have played over 4500 concerts
They have spend the day in prison (not sure if this is to play or for something they did wrong)

Paul
11-06-2005, 4:47pm
Wow actually......I remember Roger Taylor saying he once went to the Monaco grand prix and missed it because he went out drinking with Rick Parfitt and they spent the night in a cell. So maybe it was that same time.

matty
11-06-2005, 4:51pm
O I heard about the prison thing, I think they were drunk and started a little trouble. But they've done a hell of a lot of drugs so it could be connected to that. Didn't know the other stuff.

Lol did you know Francis wrote pictures of matchstick men on the toilet?

Paul
11-06-2005, 5:01pm
LOL! No didn't know that.....

I think they had quite hard lives, Francis lost his daughter when she was young in an accident, and he has been married lots of times.

matty
11-06-2005, 5:05pm
I didn't know that. The way he speaks about his family in interviews he seems really close to them and as if they've got it together. I guess he finally did :dunno: He's apperantly producing an album for one of his daughters and he says he's gonna do a solo album one day. I can't imagine how that'd sound though.

The 'Quo' most definetely ROCK! I have just finished reading their book. It is a good read. It was Rick,s daughter who died.( She drowned in the family swimming pool) not Francis,s.

Well I won't be going, Rick has throat cancer. All the rest of the concert dates are cancelled.
Hope he gets better :(

"RICK PARFITT IN THE CLEAR AFTER THROAT OPERATION

Press release 20-12-05

Duroc Media is delighted to announce that, after seeking expert medical opinion, Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has been given the all clear following his throat problems which forced the cancellation of the remaining eleven dates of Quo's sell out 'The Party Ain't Over Yet' UK tour.

Simon Porter, the band's manager, said, "On Thursday 15 December, Rick saw Consultant ENT Surgeon David Howard who performed a biopsy on two suspect growths on his larynx. I'm now delighted to report that both growths have subsequently proved to be benign and have been removed by Mr Howard utilising laser surgery techniques under general anaesthetic.

"Rick will now spend the holiday period recuperating and we would like to thank all the band's fans and friends who have shown such incredible support".

Rick added, "The news that the growths are benign is the best Christmas present that I could possibly have. It has been an incredibly worrying time for me and I would like to thank all of our fans who have sent me literally thousands of messages of support in spite of their disappointment at the tour being cancelled. This has been a major wake-up call for me and I promise our fans that, after a four month break, we will more than make it up to them with some very exciting touring plans for the remainder of next year".

Quo's touring schedule for 2006 will be announced in mid January."

Brilliant news.......

Okay, just curious :)

Let us know how it went Matty!

The show was awesome!

The beginning was funny though, the curtain wouldn't drop so we had to wait ages for them to come on and then when they did, a couple of stage guys were trying to pull the curtain down as they played Caroline :funny:

Also, when we walked in and we were going for a drink we walked past a guy with a TV crew, so I glanced and carried on walking and then I realised who it was. It was James May from Top Gear. AND! (the best bit) when we were sat waiting for the crew to move the support bands gear a guy walked out at the side of the stage wearing all denim, everyone started cheering which I found weird, I thought it was the tour manager or a roadie that all the "Front Row" knew. Turns out it wasn't, it was Bruce Jones (Les Battersby) everyone was cheering and trying to get their blow up guitars signed by him and get pics n stuff :funny:

All in all a great night! I just wished that they'd played the Party Ain't Over yet.

O and one more thing, there was a woman behind us that complained about people standing up! Who goes to Quo and does that!?
