View Full Version : No fan of Shania!

I found this disturbing to say the least about a non-fan regarding Shania and her success:

"What did she changed??? "Country" was shameful in the 80's and it
continued to get worse. What did she make better? She help make
that genre start to sound like regular pop music. She should be
applauded for that??

I'm not a country fan anymore anyway... But atleast I can respect guys
like Johnny Cash and Jennings because they didn't play the bubblegum
crap that ST has played basically her entire career.

Her music is crap. Just because she's 40 and not 20 doesn't make her
any better than Britney Spears. In fact, it makes her worse. One expects
younger singers to come out with childish lyrics.. But a 40 year old woman?

Please"

AND this:

"Give me Martina McBride any day over this overrated skank. Martina can sing circles around her and Faith Hill both. I wish Shania Twain would just go away, and take her pop schlock psuedo country with her"

Come on Shania fans, are you going to stand for this? :scowl:

Well let me tell them what I think of their country crap! Shania has a style that has made her a lot of money and more successful than any other country singer. She is able to diversify and try out new things and sounds. Madonna doesn’t sound like she did 10 years ago. You need to keep up with the times if you want to be a success in this industry. Sometimes I think that Shania is giving in to them and here I thought she had a stronger character than that. Maybe they should go and listen to their 60 year old country favorite singer if that is the era in which they want to live. Country music has needed someone to step in and make them country stand high and proud. As for the 40 year old acting like a 20 year old remark is way off line. Shania is young at heart and with that is still able to produce songs with spunk, strong willedness, sharp and witty. A certain genre has decided that they will dictate as to how 40 year old woman must behave. I have confidence in saying that Shania , as can be heard in her strong willed lyrics and her belly button that we see more of now that before it was disapproved of :) , will tell them where to f*** off. Shania may be 11 years older than me but man she is more gorgeous than any tart called Britney S****. At least Shania doesn’t sound like those blocked nosed yo yo’s from typical country breed. :scowl: Not that I think Faith Hill sounds anything like that and I believe she has a country style of her own too.

This person obviously can't accept the fact that Shania has out sold and out toured all of them, which proves that she has more fans than the rest do. I find Shania's music to be very special. No other artist has ever touched me in the way that she has. Her fun, happy and uplifting songs is just what this world needs. I have had enough of the bashers and the Nashville mentality. They can have their same old sound alike artists and junk music. Shania is a unique bright spot in the world, and I will always support her. She has achieved a mega star status that others can only dream of.

skank (skăngk) pronunciation
n.

1. A rhythmic dance performed to reggae or ska music, characterized by bending forward, raising the knees, and extending the hands.
2. Disgusting or vulgar matter; filth.
3. One who is disgustingly foul or filthy and often considered sexually promiscuous. Used especially of a woman or girl.

intr.v., skanked, skank·ing, skanks.

...hmm...who's more disgustingly foul? the elegant, gracious, kind hearted Shania Twain or this braindead no-class basher?

I wouldn't take any of this mindless bashing seriously, just idiots who have no sense of morals or decency, abusing their right for "free speech" over the Internet.
They are too arrogant and prejudice and lack the required intellect to back up their so-called "opinion" without the use to childish insults and baseless drivel.

Its not worth worrying about.........we don't know where this came from anyway. Shania couldn't give two hoots so we shouldn't either! We all know she has done more for worldwide country music than probably anyone today.

He He

That what She/he wrote make me laugh.

First regular Pop. Anything what is Popular can called POP.
Secondly childish lyrics, Hey woman/man have you ever listen heavy metal lyrics. Those are usually really childish. Is singing from happines and love childish.
Thirdly, calling any music crap or something worse, don't give picture that people have good judgement. Usually that kind person is avoided in normal discussions, unless she/he can point why that music is .....

Should we start really discuss Country lyrics.

Sorry my monkey english. I'm too tired.

What I find very odd is a new member comes here and posts this drivel as his first post. Regardless of where it came from it is exceedingly strange to me that this would be his first post as a member. The writer is obviously an illiterate juvenile with a low IQ. Why would anyone post this silliness?

I would delete this trash or lock the thread. It is pointless and beneath contempt.

I'm a fan of Shania and right from the beginning when nobody knew who she was! I just found some negativity from other music boards after what she's accomplished and wanted some feedback, that is all.

The person is a musically impaired moron, just like anyone else who calls Shania's music "childish".

For instance, how is a love song childish? ...that is a huge claim to make which is an insult to about 90% of music that exists...and if anything, songs like From This Moment On, When You Kiss Me, Forever And For Always, You're Still The One etc. are mostly appreciated by a more mature and older audience.
Secondly, how are songs like I Ain't goin Down, Black Eyes Blue Tears, God Bless The Child, Ka-ching, She's Not Just A Pretty Face, It Only Hurts and any other Shania song that touches upon social/personal issues "childish"?
Even Shania's uptempo songs aren't remotely childish, she is just speaking very real lyrics from her own personality.
...it is just baseless criticism, people who say these kind of things must enjoy talking complete and utter crap. It is the same way with critics who say those things in album reviews, I could name many "critically acclaimed" artists and bands that have songs with equally "simple" or "stupid" lyrics which in the same breath, these people turn a blind eye to yet use these type of insults on other artists out of hypocrisy.

The Beatles? More naive and childish lyrics are hard to find... :funny: ?? But they had their critics back then also, so that is quite usual when the career is still going stong. The more you gain success, the more bashers turn up everywhere. They were mostly silenced by Lennon's death, so let's hope that is not the case with Shania anyway.

And some people cannot stand Stevie Wonder since he uses his music as a social conscience-tool all the time?!? They find THAT irritating and are wanting lighter and funnier lyrics.

Shania's bashers haven't usually heared her all songs. And the ones they are critizising... hmmm.... IMO they don't "get it" since it takes some sense of irony (which ain't blessed to everybody) to understand the sarcasm in them.

You cannot just please everybody. Pure and simple... Nothing to lose your sleep over for.

Some people can't stand the fact the music has changed, some people can't stand the fact that she doesn't sing about the country cliché. There are various reasons for their dislike and they are either gonna accept in or their not. With time it'll get better, as time goes by she will merge with what was traditional country.

Shania has just been awarded the Order of Canada, the highest honour any Canadian can get for services to the community - by the new Gov Gen, Michaelle Jean, yet one more formidable Canadian Woman. May I suggest you email that person this story and let's see what he thinks is Skank about that!

The "opinions" expressed in the first post serves no constructive discussion value whatsoever.

It's like an equation where the names are variables and can be replaced with any artist & it's primary purpose is to cause an argument amongst fans.

Complete nonsense, and I wouldn't waste *any* time on this.

I am very dissappointed at the crude language present in this thread. Basher or no basher, when posts have censored or self-censored starred out words, it's a sign that Forum rules boundaries have been crossed. Foul language is not allowed.
Someone might think it's a small issue, but from experience I can say that I have witnessed here and in many messageboards how so called bad behaviour spreads very fast, and soon we wouldn't be able to have the (family)friendly and nice atmosphere we currently have and are getting compliments about.

In general when dealing with a basher/troll, it doesn't mean that automatically there would be some sort of exception to what is allowed in here. And replying with dignity will just frustrate the troll/basher. Naturally ignoring is the ultimate frustration to them. I have seen in some messageboards when a troll posts a provocating message, and it doesn't get replied to, another message follows...if that doesn't get an answer either, a new, much worse message follows. You can see the frustration level rising with each post until they finally give up.

When looking at the big picture there are several ways of expressing oneself, and especially that comes out when discussing issues that many disagree in.
As an example, discussion about other artists. There is a big difference in saying: "X is a **** and I hate the music" and saying: "I don't care for artist X or his/her personality and I'm dissappointed in the way they behave in public eye".
Now that is just a simplified example, this isn't to say that expressing opinions aren't allowed, not at all. I'm just reminding there are many different ways to express oneself, and we need the co-operation from all members to keep the nice atmosphere we have here. Even strong differing opinions can be said in a way that doesn't get people upset at each other, and debates can stay civil.

I know I touched issues way beyond this thread, but I figured to post a bit more than just the first paragraph, to give a broader view as to what I meant and was after with this post.

Why..? - educational purposes & the realisation of what such posts are about.

We could automatically remove any post that goes against the general consensus, but then we would receive cries of "freedom of speech" and "fans living in a bubble" mails... and we get enough of those.

With freedom of speech comes responsibility, tolerance and consideration towards others.

Now this thread has served it's purpose.

Narrator voice: "And with this by now familiar apology, the magnificent dance of life continues at the savanna as the fans return from their exhausting hunt empty-handed as always, but full of new hope and fond memories of things that might have been, and as the bewildered prey will once again hide herself for the rainy season and, full of shame and regret, make her best effort to forget that any of this really took place to begin with. We know that soon the cycle will start again and the reason why this happens can only be called one of mother nature's great mysteries.

But remember that like us, these glorious beasts are nothing more than pawns of fate, small players in the grand opera of life, mere puppets of the dominus obscurus that forever waits yet never reveals himself, and therefore, all this happens for a reason.
