I just wanted too see how far out some of these rumors where. Somebody told me that she knew Shania in Calgary when she was stripping. That still makes me laugh too this day, and I heard that like 10 years ago. She told me that they used to hang out together. I almost died when I heard that little peice of fiction. I also remeber hearing a rumor she was really Australian and she hid that fact because she would not be able to make it big in Country Music. Some of this is just priceless, how do people come up with this stuff.

It's NOT a rumour.
...and NOT laughable at all, when one bothers to study her background...
...as the Edwards sisters were adopted by their stepfather Jerry Twain, they became legally Ojibwe...
Also, Shania has mentioned in an interview, that her mother at some point claimed, that the Edwards side of the family had some indian blood in them... so, there you have it.

You can't necessarily tell by skin colour, I know people who are half and are light skinned and my sister was Malato and she had light skin as well.

People used to say my sister looked like Mariah when she was younger. Kelly was a big fan, not just of the music either. Mariah has got Irish in her and she also Half African American, being thats what my sister was she really indentified with Mariah.

the rumer i heard was that she really hammed up that indian thing to her advantage to start her career cuz for some odd reason it's cool to be part indian rather that a full one. just because she is legally adopted doesn't make her one or give her the right to use it, it's a horrible thing to do. just because you are adopted by a different race doesn't make you of it. a zebra abopted by a herd of elephants doesn't make it an elephant, in the same sense a white adopted by a black (or vice versa) doesn't mean that you now a minority or white. it's stupid and shania has b--ls (or lack of) to use it to of furthered her career and i lloove her music just not how she is.
But you yourself just said it was a rumour, right? Shania is very proud of her adopted Father and his ways, she has nothing to be sorry for for feeling that way or saying that.
Besides, why do people have to be catagorised as black or white, animals as zebras or elephants? Thats ridiculous! Shania was included by her native tribe and grew up with them, for me its not about your blood, its about the environment you grow up in which determines how you are as a person.
What right do people have to tell someone like Shania that she isn't this or that? Besides, Shania only mentions this when she is asked in interviews, she has never hammed anything up regarding her family life. She can't do right for trying at times. If Shania's behaviour is upsetting people I can't imagine what people are expecting of her, she's a perfect role model.

I keep hearing rumors that she lied about her native heritage to get ahead in the country music business, same as being Canadian, if she did this how come she didn't just say she was from Tennessee that makes the most sense to me. She could've at least lied and said she was from a ranch in Texas, lying about anything else doesn't make any sense for someone trying to make it the country music business.
Really ridiculous.
Her father's tribe adopted her and by that declared, they consider her (and her siblings too) as a part of them, and she's half ojibway by law.
Yet outsiders keep saying no, she's not. What an insulance!
If someone can't accept it, as something real and worth, than countries like USA or Canada could not be make their own all the citizens who imigrated into their countries. It was a merely legal act, and no one questioning anyone's grandmother if they are real Americans or Canadians.
Why the legal adoptance of a tribe would work diferently?
Especially, when Shania, contrary to many full-blooded indians actually learnt the culture and habits from her grandmother and grandfather and other relatives, and lived in a reservation.

I know it's awful and it really bothers me! A fan on our Forum said a friend from Montreal called him and told him that there was this rumor going on. It probably was started by a basher or someone with no life!!! Sorry but I had to ask if anyone heard it too.

If something of that nature were true Shania would be nice enough to tell us after family and friends. That isn't a nice rumor to who ever started it.
I meant to say how would you know anyway? Is this not an extremely private and personal thing that would not be publically broadcast? Shania was well into her pregnancy before it was announced.
It's not surprising such a rumor spread, with both Anastacia and Kylie being in this unfortunate situation. I suspect Shania is not the only star to have been subjected to these types of rumors in the past few months...
Still, its a sick thing to do. Someone somewhere made this up. :mad: It's not the sort of thing to joke about.

I don't know anything about this Ojibwe stuff but did you actually read what I wrote. Do you know what an Aborigional is? Its an Australian native black fella. AND if anyone knows anything about the way intermixed offspring appear they'd know that the black gene is dominant and a child born to mixed parent will ALLWAYS be darker than the lighter parent and lighter than or as dark as the darker parent. Its geneology, you can't argue with it. If Shania is genuinely part indian or adopted into an indian family, thats got nothing to do with being Aborigional.

See what happens when you steal other people's habbits? If you would have left the issue alone until Bob read it, then he would have promptly displayed the "aboriginal" quote and he would have gotten all the heat instead of you...:p
Anyway, based on that definition Adam and Eve were the original aboriginals, therefore every one of us has aboriginal roots, so this whole thing is a non-issue.:D

If you are offended from my original assumption, that you were refering to that old Timmins Daily Press article, where they questioned Shania's native origins (as you pointed out that it probably came from some Canadian (?) special, where I highly doubt they would ever claim her to have Australian native origins) - I apologize.
...just goes to show, that us moderators - as hard as we might try - are still unable to read the minds of each individual poster with 100% accuracy.
(I think the show was most likely VH-1's Behind The Music - even Shania commented on it, as she did in detail with a letter to the Daily Press... the paper then apologized afterwards about making false statements about her origins and her motives)
We all try to be welcoming and nice & hope that people actually enjoy posting here.

Your post must have been misinterpreted into a different subject, which happens to revolve around a controversial issue which was once brought up by Shania's hometown media regarding Shania's heritage. They had all facts wrong and as far as I know, Shania hasn't forgiven them for it, so naturally some fans will resent it being brought back up.
But anyway, welcome here. :)

Mine too. It was probably spawned from the fact that Shania has low blood sugar. Some awful person in the press probably took that, spun it, and ran with it to turn it into their own awful rumor.

actually i heard that Shania now is completely healthy and the low blood sugar problem was back in her youth.
