View Full Version : God Bless The Child
Every year this comes up. Shania's "God Bless The Child" is played at Christmas time on the radio. I still can't see the christmas connection with this song. This is also the only time of year its played.

Well, which other Shania song would you play at Christmas?
GBTC is about hope and faith and helping children - what is Christmas about? Of course it's about our Saviour being born, but it is also about all the aspects GBTC is about. And of course it's got "Hallelujah!" in it...

Christmas is about the Kids and the songs happens to be about chrildren in not so great circumstances. It reminds us too think about the less-fortunate at this time of year. I think this is a perfect time too play the song, even though it doesn't have the word Christmas in it. :D

I'm getting sick of seeing the same video's every year, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't play them 24/7. It seems like they play the same video every ten minutes.

I wish I could get sick of that. I think I see her on our TV once every 247 days :p

Oh no I'm not talking about Shania, I'd never get sick of those. :D
I love the fact that they play this song sround Christmas! It may not be strictly about the holidays, but it certainly does make you think about what should be especially important during the holiday season - compassion, hope, faith etc.
I can also see the connection to Christmas time with this song, naturally helping underpriviliged children should happen all year round, but especially it is nice to remind people this time of year that everyone should help those less fortunate to also have a good Christmas.

It was released in the USA on an Album called Wonderful Christmas, or similar title. The 'Robots' who pick the playlists for the holdiday Season don't actually know the songs, often people in a postition to make playlists have a very narrow knowlege of popular music.
So if a song is from an album with 'Christmas' in the Title it must be a Christmas song right? Sigh :(

Gotcha, I misinterpreted what you said. I agree with ya though, I don't watch music TV anymore but if I do ever see it its always the same stuff from ages ago or the same people, nothing new.

Me neither its all shows about famous people now, I hate that. I want music, I really don't want to hear how someone thinks Paris Hilton sucks.
When I think Christmas songs, I think bells and jingles, something about snow and stuff like that.

I've always wondered what GBTC had to do with Christmas... but I certainly did enjoy hearing it on my trip out to Arkansas this year! I was driving and was like "OMGAW THAT'S GOD BLESS THE CHILD!" I never, ever hear the single version.

It's because God Bless The Child is a gospel song.
