Who's heard of the Corb Lund Band. They have made some pretty big news around these parts. I like them and I like the songs. That old Ambulance looks pretty cool, thats a niffty trademark or whatever that is. I like it any ways. Heres a link to the band and some vids. I like Truck Got Stuck and Shine Up My Boots, good songs if you ask me. Hope you enjoy these, its what Alberta is all about. :D

You better like them or I'll come and kick your butts........ or maybe I won't. First I don't want my butt kicked and second I'm REALLY lazy.

Hey Andrew did you get a chance to listen to them. If so, what did you think? Just wondering about that.

Hi Sean,

Steve Loop sent some of us an email a while back about Corb Lund. I watched the Truck Got Stuck video. Then was involved in an email dialog about it with a couple ST fans. One of them is from Edmonton Alberta area.

I'll forward a copy of those email dicussions, including my review of the video and impressions about Corb Lund. You may find it interesting, if you haven't already seen some of those comments elsewhere.

Meanwhile, have you seen the interviews of Corb Lund by Joel Stewart? I found Corb's answers and perspective exceptionally good. I wasn't much impressed with Joel, he had good questions, but seemed a bit arrogant. Maybe it was just an affectation from his feeling inadequate, or maybe trying to make Corb feel like Joel was a "good ole boy", just like Corb.

If you like Corb, and haven't seen these interview segments, I think you'll really enjoy them.

There are about 7 video segments of the interview, about 6 minutes each, on CMT Canada.

I would've posted a link direct to them, but cmtca's site doesn't allow that.

Here's how to access them:

1) go to http://www.cmt.ca/#
2) click on "video" menu item near upper right
3) click on "Interviews" under CATEGORIES at lower left
4) scroll down on right side, to Corb Lund interview video segments

I'll have to check them out. What style do they sing?

In the one video segment I watched so far, Corb said the Truck Got Stuck was Talking Blues style. Although he's proud of that, it's not his only style, or necessarily even his main style, I guess.

Sean provided a link to Corb's website at the top of this thread. I think you can hear sample music and get other info about Corb and the Albertans there.

Lyne Clyde was filling me in on some of the background in the email discussion I had with 2-3 ST fans about Corb. I was gonna send a copy of that to Sean, but I don't have his regular email address.

Hi A-E,

A good ST fan and friend of mine from Edmonton shared the following with some of us about this same time last year:

> ... "I think you all have the wrong idea about Corb Lund. He doesn't want to be commercialized. The sound you hear is what he has worked hard at creating. I guess it's official name is the talking blues. The more commercial sounding tunes...," (reference removed for privacy) "in Corbs eyes, a bit of a sell out. He writes songs about his experiences in rural Alberta and puts them to a bluesy folksy kind of beat. Don't know about anywhere else but I know in HMV in Edmonton his music is found in World Music section. Not country or folk or blues. he's definately hard to tag, but it's nice to know he's getting some coverage in The States." ... <

You can learn a lot more about his style, background, views, priorities, etc in those interview video segments I mentioned earlier. He comes across as a very astute, sensitive, insightful, articulate person; rather than the good ole country bumpkin I expected. And he's been around a bit, not a spring chicken. Looked to be in prime of life, with successful career, reaching way beyond just Canada and the plains.

Well, there is at least one spirited and uninhibited contributor in this thread. So you might have some luck here.

But have you tried starting a thread with a topic that zeroes in on what you need?

You'll probably get better visibility. Thread topics are seen by most people who look through the list of topics on each main Forum group.

With only about 5 people posting in this thread, the chances seem slim, that your question in the bottom of this thread will get much visibility or consideration. Many members probably will not know from this thread's title, that someone here needs help finding a good name for their band.

Sean is a creative and funny guy. If you can get him going with a few of his friends, they can come up with lots of creative ideas for your band. You might not want to hear some of them, but some others might get you close to what you need.

The moderators and admins may be able to help you decide whether it will work best for you to start a new thread.

If you decide to try a new thread, I can imagine a thread title for you that would get at least a double look from members here, especially fishing persons.

"Cheeky Bass Demands Better Hook!"

A good band name is a good hook.
