Hank Williams is my favorite. So, so good. Merle Haggard is a close second. Basically, this is roughly in order:

...I'm surprised you named so many male artists, you have stated you prefer female country artists, yes?...7 is not much...actually if you asked about male rock 'n roll and doo wop artists my list of males would be very long ... btw you can add the Everly Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Buddy Holly to the country list (even though all but the Louvin Bros are better known in rock genre they were also considered country at times)...

I don't actually hear country right now, but I rarely hear it.. well, I love some songs from Brad Paisley and Billy Currington, I got the pirate version of his newest album :D but all songs are really nice.
