I'm confused

I know this is not a very important thing, but it confuses me... my profile shows I've got 1 referral. I dont recall ever telling people about these forums with the special referral link. But told peope about it but used noramal links to this site http:/www.shaniaforums.com
so I'm confused, can you get referrals even though you dont use the referral link?
