:funny: - Excellent, Per..! - those were spot-on..! ;)
...and to what those names actually mean - as they aren't based on Latin, as in other countries, but rather ancient agricultural events in certain moons...
kuu = moon
January - Tammikuu
Tammi = oak, but in this case it's from the ancient word meaning 'mid moon', as this month divides the winter in halves.
In Latin, Januarius comes from the two-faced god Janus, who was believed to have influence over starting of all events.
February- Helmikuu
Helmi = pearl, during this month the snow and ice shines like pearls.
In Latin, Februarius comes from the Roman Februa purification celebration.
March - Maaliskuu
Maa = earth, during this month the snow begins to melt, revealing the earth.
In Latin, Martius comes from Mars, the god of war.
April - Huhtikuu
Huhti, huhtapuiden kaato = the time to chop down the trees in areas cleared and burnt-over for cultivation.
The Latin Aprilis is the month of spring's opening.
May - Toukokuu
Touko, kevätkylvö = spring sowing, performed during this month.
The Latin Maius, comes from the god of vegetation - Maia
June - Kesäkuu
Kesä = summer, the beginning of the season.
In Latin, Junius - month dedicated to the god Juno.
July - Heinäkuu
Heinä = hay, the month to gather hay for the farmed animals.
In Latin, Caesar gave this month his name, Julius.
August - Elokuu
Elo = harvest, month of harvesting.
In Latin, Caesars successor Augustus named this month.
September - Syyskuu
Syys = Autumn, the beginning of the season.
In Latin, September is the seventh moon.
October - Lokakuu
Loka = sludge, describes the wet mud all around during this month.
In Latin, October is the eighth moon.
November - Marraskuu
Marras = death, nature 'dies' during this month.
In Latin, November is the ninth moon.
December - Joulukuu
Joulu = Christmas
In Latin, December is the tenth moon.
John - ;)
Thanks for the info John.
