(KMOV) -- At the Mount Hope Cemetery in Lemay you'll find Terry Dalton nearly everyday as he visits his wife's grave.
A couple years ago Dalton saw a white deer in the woods.
The Missouri Department of Conservation says perhaps 1 deer in 30,0000 is albino. There are varying degrees in the animal world to be a "true albino"
To be a “true albino” the species must have red or pink eyes, according to Alice Seyfried with the Saint Louis Zoo.
Many albinos have poor eyesight.
Experts say there are two schools of thought when it comes to survival.
First, since albinos are easily spotted they're easy prey.
"The other is predators are very careful and they've learned over generations what's safe to eat and if they see a completely white animal when that animal should have been brown they may not know if it's okay to eat," said Alice Seyfried with the Saint Louis Zoo.
Dalton says the deer behaves just like the rest of the herd.
