With the big tournament in Germany less than two weeks away now, let's get the World Cup talk going. Living in a country that lives and breathes hockey, Football/Soccer is not a sport that gets much publicity...that does change a bit every four years however. Canada though did not qualify, so if you want me to cheer for your country make me an offer...loll :p Good luck to all the teams!!

My destination makes it worth the while....

It's obviously really big here, it's easily our national sport, I think its the same throughout most of Europe and the world. It's starting to hot up here, lots of cars have the flags on, TV is starting to build up...

Brazil are favourites but interestingly a European team usually wins it when it is hosted in Europe and a rest of the world team when it is hosted outside Europe. So I would say a strong European team, maybe Italy. But I have to seriously include England because it is the strongest squad we have had for many years, and our club sides are going through a good spell.

Good luck to everyone, I'll try to watch all 64 games if I can, I managed it once before!

Superstition, a football tradition
25 May 2006
by FIFAworldcup.com

Curses cannot touch me because I wear my underwear inside out."
Who else but a footballer could make a statement like this? In most cultures, and most sports, such belief in the protective power of one's underwear - voiced here by Adrian Mutu of Juventus and Romania - would be considered ridiculous, insane even.

Not in football. The beautiful game may have advanced massively, but its participants remain as rooted in superstition as ever and, whether it is ritual, religion, astrology or witchcraft to which fans, players and coaches turn, none of the 32 teams travelling to Germany will arrive without some kind of superstitious baggage.

Lucky 13 for Zagallo
Superstition might appear at its most intense in Africa - where stories abound of teams using witchdoctors - but anyone who believes this is a football phenomenon exclusive to one continent should think again. Indeed, only this week, Spain's star striker, Raul, was berated for turning up at training sporting a yellow T-shirt, a colour his coach, Luis Aragones, considers to bring bad luck.

Even Brazil, a team who, despite their yellow shirts, have still managed to become the most successful in the FIFA World Cup's history, have their superstitions. The most famous concerns Mario Zagallo's near-obsession with the number 13. "Because of my wife," the legendary former Seleção coach explained, "I started using the number 13 on my shirt because she was devoted to St Anthony of 13 July."

Zagallo, who is heading for his seventh FIFA World Cup in the role of Brazil's technical co-ordinator, is also convinced that the holders are all but guaranteed to retain the Trophy. And the reason? Naturally, because their coach, Carlos Alberto, has 13 letters in his name, and because the team's first match in Germany will be against Croatia on, yes - you guessed it, 13 June.
Perhaps there is method to this apparent madness. After all, another former FIFA World Cup-winning coach, Argentina's Carlos Bilardo, relied on a lucky tie he wore throughout the 1986 and 1990 tournaments and, having borrowed toothpaste from one of his players before Argentina's first match in Mexico, insisted on continuing the routine all the way to the Final.

Relive the 1986 FIFA World Cup

Italy's Giovanni Trapattoni, meanwhile, relied on a greater power than ties, toothpaste or lucky numbers, and was often seen sprinkling holy water from a bottle provided by his sister, who is a nun. This practice caused controversy in Trapattoni's homeland, but not nearly as much of a stir as the current France coach, Raymond Domenech's admission that he takes players' star signs into consideration before selecting his team.

Scorpios, such as Robert Pires, are said to be the principal victims of this practice as, according to Domenech, "they always end up killing each other". Nor can there be a surplus of temperamental Leos as they are liable "to try something daft", a belief that Werder Bremen’s Johan Micoud blames for his omission from the French FIFA World Cup squad. "He (Domenech) was my coach at U-21 level, ten years ago, but apart from that I have never been contacted by him," said Micoud. "Maybe I am not in the squad because my star sign is Leo and there are too many in the French team."

Terry: 'I have about 50'
With guidance from such superstitious managers, it is no wonder that the tournament's history is littered with players whose habits are every bit as bizarre. Everyone, surely, will remember Laurent Blanc's pre-match ritual of kissing the bald head of Fabien Barthez prior to every match at France 98, but the French centre-half - a Scorpio, incidentally - is far from alone in behaving so oddly.

In 1966, for example, England's Nobby Stiles insisted on following an painstaking, intricately-detailed routine that involved rubbing olive oil on his chest and greasing his face and hands, while team-mate Jack Charlton would habitually change studs at last minute and could not end the warm-up without scoring.
Another Englishman, the 1986 adidas Golden Shoe winner Gary Lineker, accrued a whole list of superstitions during his career. "In the warm-up, I would never shoot at the goal because I didn't want to waste a goal," he once said. "I wanted to save those for the game. I'd always change my shirt in the second half if I hadn't scored in the first, but I'd keep wearing the same shirt if I had scored. If I ever went on a bad run, I'd always get a haircut."

Read Lineker's recollections of that golden summer in Mexico

It can also be seen that such seemingly illogical practices transcend generations, with current England centre-half John Terry – who once scoured Barcelona's Camp Nou pitch for a lost pair of lucky shinpads - admitting to having "ended up with about 50".

"I am so superstitious," he has admitted. "I've got to have the same seat on the bus, tie the tapes round my socks three times and cut my tubular grip for my shin-pads the same size every game. I also drive to games listening to the same Usher CD in my car."

Some superstitions are, however, more palatable than others, and we can be grateful that Sergio Goycochea no longer keeps goal for Argentina. After all, the legendary keeper's routine for facing penalties – which, until the Final of Italia 90, was remarkably successful - involved him hitch up his shorts and urinating on the pitch.

How effective are these habits and rituals? Well, with so many on the go at once, it would stand to reason that most of our superstitious stars are likely to end up disappointed this summer in Germany. Then again, what has superstition - or football - ever had to do with reason?

Watching all 64 games would not have been a possibilty for us in years gone by unless one had a satellite dish. This year however, one of the sports channels in Canada...Sportsnet...will broadcast each game across the country. With the time difference however, I won't be watching very many :( ...except the weekend games. :D

I managed it when I was in college, I think it was the USA world cup in 1994. The games were from 7pm to 3am so for a month it took over my life! It will be hard to do it this year, I'm doing full time teaching and then watching 3 matches in the evening will be hard! But I'll try...

Good luck then Paul!

Most games will be on when I'm at work, so there's no chance of my watching during the week....guess I'll have to get the scores, news, etc. when I get home. Oh well...

U.K.'s goal: Hooligans don't get past local pub
Police collect passports to keep unruly fans from World Cup in Germany

LONDON - They drink until they vomit, rage bare-chested and pick fistfights with rival fans. Three thousand three hundred of these British soccer "hooligans" were forced to turn in their passports by Tuesday to keep them from causing disruptions at the World Cup tournament, which starts next week in Germany.

In addition to barring Britain's most aggressive fans from traveling abroad, police are also keeping an eye on them at home by demanding that they register at a local police station every day England has a game.

Ultimately, it's about England's reputation," said a spokeswoman for the British Home Office, who by tradition is not identified by name. "We don't want to export a problem."

Last season, British police arrested 3,600 people for "football-related offenses," typically disorderly behavior while watching a match. Soccer is known as football in most countries outside the United States.

Hooliganism has been a major social problem in England since the 1970s, but after a particularly ugly melee in 2000 in Belgium, laws were passed to ground the increasingly mobile troublemakers.

In that incident, British fans hurled bottles and chairs at German supporters before and after defeating Germany in a match. More than 900 were arrested, and police resorted to a water cannon for crowd control. At the time, Prime Minister Tony Blair called it "mindless thuggery that has brought such shame to the country."

Steven Powell, a spokesman for the Football Supporters' Federation, said his group's motto is "Passion yes, violence no." He said the group in principle supports the "banning orders" that bar disorderly fans from matches for up to 10 years. But he said he was concerned that in a few cases, people are being banned from games because they were drunk, not violent.

"You can be merry and boisterous and no danger to anybody," Powell said. He said he had no problem with the law coming down hard on someone "who bashed someone with a broken bottle." But he said he thought there should be more flexibility in dealing with a fan guilty of little more than "being a bit stupid."

'There is potential for a lot of trouble'
Relatively few die-hard English fans flew to Japan and South Korea for the previous World Cup, in 2002, but 100,000 British fans are expected to make the shorter, cheaper trip to Germany for the games that begin June 9. Those without tickets can watch the matches on huge public screens near the stadiums. British and German fans have an intense rivalry, and that makes English officials, who have seen a recent decline in the violence problem, nervous that it could flare again.

"There is potential for a lot of trouble," said James Bandy, deputy editor of Match, England's biggest soccer weekly. He said he believes most law-abiding fans applaud "anything to stop it."

Stadiums throughout Europe are increasingly well policed, as other countries have seen matches marred by aggressive fans who throw punches and shout racist epithets and other abuse. In England, both uniformed officers and undercover "football intelligence officers" with video cameras routinely scan crowds looking for sparks.

British police also maintain a computerized database of known hooligans, and officers patrol departure lounges of British airports before overseas matches, checking passenger lists against their records. Dozens of British uniformed officers and undercover "hooligan spotters" will fly to Germany to help make sure hyped-up fans stick to singing national anthems and waving flags to show their spirit.

Brazil not too happy with new World Cup ball

WEGGIS, Switzerland (AP) - Brazil's players are having a hard time getting used to the World Cup ball.
Although sportswear giant Adidas says the "Teamgeist" (Team Spirit) balls will produce unprecedented performances, the defending champions are not enjoying it so far.

"I still haven't been able to find the best way to strike this ball," defender and free-kick specialist Roberto Carlos said Thursday. "It's very light, the way they are doing it is completely different from before. It seems like it's made of plastic."

Goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni said last week that the ball is very different from what players are used to.

"We'll have to practice a lot to adapt to this ball," Ceni said. "It gains a lot of velocity when it's raining."

Carlos, Ronaldinho and Juninho have been spending extra time during Brazil's training sessions to work on striking the ball.

"We are trying different ways to hit it," Carlos said. "I think the important thing is to hit the goal, we are seeing that the goalkeepers are not being able to hold on to it very easily - it curves a lot."

Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann complained about the ball last month, saying it was made for outfield players and the crowd, not goalkeepers.

With the new ball, Brazil routed Swiss club FC Lucerne 8-0 on Tuesday in a World Cup warm-up. One of the goals was scored by Juninho on a free kick.

Adidas contends that the Teamgeist ball is three times more accurate than its closest competitors, but does not provide data from tests conducted with its robotic leg at a laboratory in Germany.

Adidas has supplied all 32 World Cup teams with 40 balls for training. All 960 soccer balls for use at the World Cup will be inscribed with the date, the names of the teams playing, the venue and the match number.

Each of the 64 games at this year's tournament will have 15 balls to use. Each team and officials will get to keep one ball after the game.

Brazil will play New Zealand on Sunday in Geneva in its final match before heading to Germany to try to win a record sixth World Cup title. It will debut in Group F against Croatia on June 13.

I saw it! So funny.....hidden talents!

I don't get it, I saw match of the day and they all slated Carragher. He didn't put a foot wrong, I think he's a great option. If we end up playing teams like Brazil I like having a defensive minded player and also then Gerrard and Lampard are free to attack. He would totally protect the defense and then if Terry wants to go forward on a run or for a corner then he can slot into centre back and cover him. I'd do it...he's too good to leave out! I liked Gerrard behind the striker too, we have so many options, we're lucky.

I didn't see it but you let one in early. Hopefully Borgetti will keep scoring in the World Cup and get a starting place for us next season.

True....that was mostly because most players were inexperienced..:)
As you may or may not have noticed, almost all the players that had played in the first friendly match against Cameroon, were on the bench.. Van Basten wanted to give the others (the less experienced/WC rookies) a chance to see what they could do..and of course using all this to decide who to put in the 'final team'..:)

Oh btw, and the 21- Dutch team secured a spot in the EC Final yesterday..

I agree, I guess it's because he doesn't really pass forwards but to me he's there to calm things down and protect them team, so I don't have a problem with it.
Sven needs to get rid of Hargreaves and put Defoe or Johnson in. I don't know what he's like in Germany but he's so clumsy.

I think if Rooney was fit he'd use him as a sub for 20 mins or so. These won't be the hardest games so he could ease him in with them. The Iron Giant seems to be on a roll so I'd leave him in the team for now.

No free World Cup tickets for children, soldiers
Officials say distributing any extra passes would be near impossible

MUNICH, Germany - School children and soldiers, you’re out of luck. No free tickets to the World Cup.

Organizers had considered giving away tickets in order to fill empty seats at stadiums during the tournament, but abandoned the idea as not practical.

“Despite all our efforts, we realize there will be no-shows,” German organizing committee vice president Horst Schmidt said Saturday. “We tried to devise a system but were not very successful. We thought of soldiers, clubs, schools, but it’s impossible to organize. They have to wait, and then there may not be any tickets.

“So we’ll use volunteers who do not have any specific thing to do. Anything else is not feasible.”

At the 2002 World Cup, organizers were criticized because tens of thousands of tickets weren’t used. For this World Cup, which begins Friday in Munich, the criticism has been that too many tickets have been reserved for sponsors, affiliates of FIFA and organizers. Security measures put in place to limit counterfeiting and ticket scalping have also come under fire.

“I have been involved in many World Cups, and I must say this World Cup is extremely well-prepared,” said Lennart Johansson, the chairman of the FIFA World Cup organizing committee.

More than 98 percent of the more than 3 million tickets that were initially available have been sold, putting this World Cup on pace to be the second-best attended behind the 1994 World Cup in the United States — which drew nearly 3.6 million fans.

About 64 percent of the World Cup tickets were reserved for sponsors, affiliates, competing teams and non-competing soccer federations. Since May 15, 11,000 of those tickets were put on sale to the general public and sold, Schmidt said.

“People have a moral obligation not to keep a ticket they know is not going to be used,” FIFA general secretary Urs Linsi said.

German officials have also encountered some problems with a new system that allows fans to pick up tickets that have already been paid for at “ticket centers” near the stadiums. Fans can also use the centers to change the name on tickets. Each ticket has the holder’s name printed on it in a bid to reduce fraud.

“One fan mistakenly was able to buy a ticket at the ticket center and this created a stampede,” Schmidt said, referring to an incident in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday.

Segregating fans of different teams has been an effective method to reduce clashes between rival supporters, but Schmidt realized this probably would not be possible with the return system.

They’re are fans from rival teams that have not always been amicable,” Schmidt said. “But this can be completely different at a World Cup. Fans can get along with each other very well.”

With the tournament less than a week away, officials appeared confident.

“Six days before the start of the tournament, we need to accelerate the process,” Schmidt said. “I’m fairly optimistic it will run smoothly.”

I'm not convinced though. Whether they're real or not I've read that some are selling for £1000 already. Criminals don't care if they're real or not.
Plus you can guarantee the England fans will fill half the ground at what ever games they play and they haven't been allocated that many tickets, for the first game atleast anyway.

Sven tips dead-eye David to deliver

Sven-Goran Eriksson expects David Beckham's deadly aim to make England lethal from set-pieces in the World Cup finals.
Eriksson's team have enjoyed great success from free-kicks and corners in their warm-up friendlies.

Steven Gerrard and John Terry scored from Beckham deliveries against Hungary last week.

And Jamaica's defence could not cope either as England scored twice from Beckham dead-ball plays in Saturday's 6-0 romp.

Eriksson said: "We have the best deliverer of free-kicks and corner kicks in the world and we have people who can put it in.

"We are one of the best teams in the world on set-pieces."

Beckham is ranked in the top three of England's pre-tournament fitness tests, along with Frank Lampard and Gary Neville.

It is in stark contrast to four years ago when he went to the World Cup less than fully fit after returning from a broken foot.

Eriksson said: "I haven't seen all Real Madrid's games but I've seen more than 50% and he's been their best player this season.

"It makes a big difference. He seems to be very fit and very much in form more or less all year.

"Fingers crossed, let's hope we don't have any more injuries for him or any other players.

"The fitness level is high in general and we can do better and better with each game."

Eriksson could be forgiven if his confidence about set-pieces did not extend to penalties.

England have crashed out of major tournaments on penalties four times since 1990 and their recent form has been poor.

Peter Crouch chipped over from the spot against Jamaica and Lampard had one saved against Hungary.

Eriksson said: "We will train and practise. Frank Lampard will take our penalties during the games."

The England boss criticised Crouch for fooling around with his penalty against Jamaica, trying to trick the goalkeeper with a cheeky chip and missing the target.

Eriksson said: "He was up and maybe a bit carried away but it's important to come back to earth again quickly.

"Peter was fantastic but he shouldn't have taken the penalty as he did, whether that is critical or not he knows it himself.

"It's not a big thing at all. He missed a golden opportunity to practise.

"I'm not making a big thing about that. For me that story is over. I'm not angry."

More than 500 World Cup tickets vanish

STRASBOURG, France (AP) - A mail package containing more than 500 World Cup tickets for the first three matches involving France went missing for days, and the French federation is demanding answers.
The package of 552 tickets was sent from the French Football Federation via DHL shipping to the regional league in Alsace. It was missing and untraceable for days before it was delivered Tuesday morning.

"The (French Football Federation) is waiting for precise explanations from DHL on the conditions in which this package disappeared for several days, despite the rigorous tracking procedures used by the company," the federation said in a statement.

Each ticket is worth between €40 (US$52) and €110 (US$143) and was equipped with a microchip. While they were missing, the tickets were deactivated, though the federation said organizers have decided to reactivate them.

Naturally there can be foul play in this World Cup ticket situation, a worker was paid to loan the packet for a little while so that forgers could examine the tickets carefully[/end of conspiration theory] :p

I heard Benitez say he was definately going to be sold, either to Lyon or Marseille, but now that won't happen. We were going to use the money from that sale to fund summer signings, so its bad news all around. Maybe he'll come back stronger and end up staying, who knows?

I'm guessing he'll buy at least 1 more striker now, the priority is a right winger - we have Crouch, Fowler, Pongolle plus Kewell and Luis Garcia can play as strikers so maybe he's not too worried. There's a lot of talk about Owen especially now he's partnered by Crouch for England but the majority of Liverpool fans don't want him back. I heard we are trying for Pennant too. But you can't help thinking we need a young fit goalscorer.

I'm not sure what to think...I suppose it worked, we weren't really threatened after going to a 5 man midfield (not much for Robinson to do anyway), so overall it was a good decision but on the other hand it was awful to watch and we created nothing. Personally I would have put Carrick on to protect the lead and free up Gerrard and Lampard rather than Downing. We had 2 left sided midfielders on when he came on, I'd rather have a solid midfield to protect.

Anyway a win against Trinidad and Tobago and we're through already, its a great start. :)

I have to vote for ENGLAND + HOLLAND [my roots]I don't have roots in either, but those have been traditionally teams I'd like to do well. Usually that does not happen
I guess I should turn into a Brazil or France fan :funny:

My interest to Holland came about when I saw one World Cup where Gullit, van Basten etc were playing very nice and attacking football. Since then Jari Litmanen played with Ajax, and Finnish tv showed a lot of their matches. I liked that young team and the play they made. Dutch national team had most of those players, so thus I followed them with interest. I do believe after that there has been some rowing and troubles in the team, but hopefully those days are over now and the new generation of players can show their best :)

Can't wait for the Holland - Serbia & Montenegro either..:D

Our whole street has already been decorated a few weeks ago, it's looking quite orange now..:p Let's hope Van Basten has selected a powerful team and most injured players are back on their feet again..:)

Btw, the Sweden - Trinidad game was just hilarious..:funny:
Sweden's trainer really should have more guts, I really don't get why he didn't put Rosenberg in the game..:nono:

You know what would be funny? If the the teams/countries with Dutch trainers would be in the Top 5/10 or something..:p

Holland: Marco van Basten
Trinidad & Tobago: Leo Beenhakker
Australia: Guus Hiddink
South Korea: Dick Advocaat

Unfortunately all my trips to England have been during the summer when they don't have games, otherwise I would have tried to get tickets to a match. From London my fave team is Arsenal. I did once go to see their stadium from the outside and visited their shop, I went a little crazy in there :p

This is what I love about the World Cup, all the fans from around the world enjoying it. I remember wehn we didn't qualify for the USA World Cup in 94, thinking it would be awful to watch without England being there and I actually enjoyed it just (almost!) as much...

Its weird that some big teams aren't there, like Russia, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Turkey. But I suppose it gives a chance for other teams who wouldn't get the opportunity like Trinidad and Tobago, Togo, Iran, Ivory Coast etc.

Maybe one day we'll make it back there. I know I wouldn't mind cheering for Canada once in my life time. The men anyways, are women aren't that bad. The U 19 World Cup here for that sold out most games, where we lost the gold to the Americans. Maybe we should think about bringing a team here. That could be a step in the right direction of maybe getting a birth into the big show.

Our under 20 team beat brazil, so maybe we do have a brighter future in that dept.

That one year we won the Gold Cup things were looking so good. Then it went not so good, so close but yet so far. But with most kids playing Football these days, things will improve, on all fronts. From professional leagues all the way down. Theres a future there, but how long it comes to being reality...... only time will tell.

Lots of the "smaller" teams have a good chance of surprising. The Ivory Coast were superb last night, look out for Tunisia, Iran, Ghana and the Ukraine...The Czech Republic are always regarded as outsiders but always do well so maybe you can't include them as a small team anymore, they are brilliant.

If I'm not allowed to pick England I think Italy will win it, as long as the corruption problems don't affect the national team and they can stay injury free. I know Brazil are regarded as the favourites but it's still a difficult tournament, favourites or not. Its awesome, I'm loving it!

There was a hilarious TV programme on last night, maybe some of the UK fans will have seen it. Rio Ferdinand set up his England team mates, kind of candid camera style, it was the funniest thing I've seen in ages!

Gary Neville was told by police he had several traffic offences and the officer would let him off if he could have a photo taken with him - Neville refused and said he'd rather take the points, very impressive for once!

David Beckham's set up was great, he had to go to a sports store to meet fans in Manchester and the limo driver was a really dodgy character and tried to go via his house to pick up some papers. Beckham was furious because it was making him late and kept insisiting he turn the limo around as he didn't want to disappoint his fans. By now the limo was way out of Manchester city centre, and when the limo pulled up to a red traffic light Beckham opened the door and started running back towards the city! Rio was in the car behind and had to chase after him, so funny! :funny: The players were so impressive with how honest they are as individuals.

David James (who is quite a good artist) was asked to go to an art gallery of a French painter when in actual fact the paintings were done by 5 year olds, he was analysing them...if they repeat this I really recommend watching it. :p

You would know more than I Paul...what about teams like Switzerland, Holland and France? What are these teams chances?

I don't know the current Swiss team very well, but France are very good, they still have a lot of the players who won the world cup in 1998 although they are a bit older. Zidane is still playing, Henry, Trezeguet, Viera and Makalele are amazing players. They have a very good chance.

Holland are always good, although I think they have a young team now, lots of the big names don't get in the team now. I'd expect them to do well, Holland always have amazing teams but somehow don't win it.

Paul
06-11-2006, 8:50am
:biglaugh: You don't even have too see that and its funny. I just pictured that in my head.

They did quite a few other players. Shaun Wright-Phillips was set up in an Italian restaurant, the waiter kept asking for an autograph when the manager wasn't looking, and he kept being caught and given a blasting back in the kitchen. The player was really embarrased. Then the waiter came out and handed a note to him asking for money. The manager saw it and fired him, the whole restaurant went crazy, so funny.

Ashley Cole was set up in a recording studio, he was asked to press a button on the control desk and it erased the vocals from the song being made. The guy came in, he was a huge gangster rapper and started going crazy. I'm amazed Ashley Cole didn't hit him, he was very cool.

Peter Crouch, OMG that was funny....he was in a hotel in Liverpool meeting an Indian property investor. The Indian guy answered the door - Peter Crouch is 6'7" and the guy was a midgit. Then half way through a load of Russian mafia guys stormed in asking for their money - £1.5 million, the Indian only had £1.4million so they said OK and we'll chop your finger off.....:funny: Crouch was sat there in shock! :biglaugh:

They got Wayne Rooney too, but I didn't find that one funny.

canoilers

Thats cool, even more so. I think I like the teams chances now that I know they are able to joke and stuff. That way they don't have all that pressure on them, that could go along way for them too the Final. :D I mean theres pressure, but the joking could really ease that for them. I don't know, but something in my gut tells me their in for a good year.

Paul
06-11-2006, 9:01am
I really hope so! Its weird watching the national side because its made up of some players I don't usually like. Being a Liverpool fan there are one or two players who are huge rivals and kind of acted badly throughout the seaon, so its difficult trying to like them when they play for England. Last night's programme showed them in a really good light, they were really honest and professional.

I'm so impressed with David Beckham. I felt for the guy, when he got in the limo he layed on the floor. Rio Ferdinand was watching through a hidden camera and couldn't believe it, but because there is such a huge interest in him he has to do this to avoid paparazzi. How sad. :( I guess thats all come from the Spanish press intruding on his life.

SevenUp!

O about Beckhams privacy, did you see that documentary on Beckham the other week? He has some random guy living outside his house in a car so he can take pics of him and his family, he said he'd been there for 3yrs.

Exactly, I don't get Sven at times, still we didn't loose so he can get away with it. I wonder when he's going to use Theo?
I'd put money on Downing only being in the squad because of McClaren. And Hargreaves again proved what a valuable asset to the squad he is.

England officials will ask Fifa to ensure players get greater access to fluids during games after they suffered in the Frankfurt heat against Paraguay.
Players lost an average of between five and 10lbs and drank huge amounts of water during the 1-0 victory.

But there were times when England staff had difficulty getting water on.

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said: "We will make a communication to Fifa, certainly not a complaint, because the medical staff were concerned."

He added: "We went through 70 litres of water when normally we go through something in the region of 20.

That's dangerous.

We actually agree on some thing :p

This game was invented in ENGLAND and ENGLAND is my team. :D My wife loves JAPAN.

This is REAL MAJOR LEAGUE. :D

The last WORLD CUP had a record 192 countries trying to be 1 of the 32 countries to play. :D

N.A. American PRO sports leagues get a little snobby about their sports leagues.

But nothing even comes close to the world cup.

It is the worlds greatest sports party. Only the Summer O. games comes close to it. :D

The SUPERBOWL? , WORLD SERIES OF MLB BASEBALL? The STANLEY CUP? The NBA FINAL?
:funny: :funny: :funny:

Thats why I'm going for England, and they are the Country where our Queen resides so that doesn't hurt them either. :D Besides we as Canadians know what its like going without the big prize in an international sport we love so much.

Well , we have to give SWEDEN in hockey credit. They did win OYLIMPIC GOLD and The World Championship in the same year. Even Canada has never done that. :D

I'm not knocking Sweden at all. We went 50 years to the day between gold medals in the Olympics, as it stands now its been 40 years since the English have last won the World Cup.

:funny: :funny: :funny:I don't think anybody ever pretended that the Stanely cup was the biggest thing in the world. The ONLY place that matters where its won or lost is pretty much Canada. It doesn't have too be the worlds most watched sport to matter to us. I personally could care less if the world isn't watching the Oilers win or lose. I don't think it really matters to Canada period. I mean why'd I care if they miss out on something this exciting.
